How do you creating a sub-ledger in Quickbooks for tracking prepaid expense?

How do I attach an account to a parent account thereby making it a sub-account.  The instructions above aren’t at all clear as to exactly how to do it.  Do you have exact steps?

Hello jobaker-bowles,

When creating a sub-account, the Account Type and the Detail Type should be the same as the parent account. Here's how to create one:

  1. Click Accounting on the left-menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click the New button.

  3. In the Account window, choose the Account Type and the Detail Type.
  4. Mark the Is sub-account box and enter the parent account.
  5. Enter the other necessary details and click Save and Close.
