I have been using QuickBooks Pro desktop version for a couple of years for my daughter's bakery. I have thousands of transactions without any class assigned.
She is opening a second location. I added class "Uptown location" for her second location.
I am able to create reports for Uptown location class.
Running my previous reports however also include Uptown location class. Since my previous transactions have not been assigned a class, am I able to run my previous reports excluding Uptown location class?
Thanks
Solved! Go to Solution.
If you give your Pro file to someone with the Accountant Edition, they have a Reclassify tool which can be used to Classify all older existing transactions to Uptown.
bring up the report, click customize, click filters, scroll down to the class filter, in the criteria block select multiple classes and check mark only those you wan to see on the report.
memorize the custom report to make it easier next time
Thanks for your response. However since my first store location transactions do not have a class there is not an class to select in the Multiple classes filter????

Thanks, I will look into that. I appreciate your assistance
Go to Reports -> Company & Financial -> Profit & Loss Unclassified
That is in desktop version correct - is there a similar option in Online version?
Yes, the answers above are for QuickBooks Desktop, @123146260285074.
I know a similar report you can run in QuickBooks Online. You'll want to pull up the Profit and Loss by Class report. Then, filter it to show only the unclassified transactions.
First, you'll have to enable the class tracking feature on the settings page. I'll guide you how:
Once done, you can now create class lists. To get started, you can add test classes.
After that, you're ready to run and customize the said report. Let me guide you how:
Also, you can save this report to keep a hard copy for future use.

In which reports, is the Class Field available in filters?
Hi there, @BinMaine.
You can pull up the Profit and Loss Detail report in QuickBooks Online to customize and select a Class [name] or Not specified class under Filter drop-down. This way, you can run a report with a specified and not-specified class.
Additionally, you can memorize the report if you want to save it QuickBooks Online and view it under the Custom reports tab in the Reports menu.

Thank you @Jovychris_A - evidently, as an "Essentials" user, I'm not supposed to have classes, but I have something called a class that is a type of a tag. They seem to work like classes (as I remember them from the desktop versions 20 years ago), but I have no Class option under filters. Different report types, seem to have a different set of filter options, but the P&L Detail only has "Distribution Account", "Name", "Employee", "Vendor", and "Payment Method"
I can run a P&L by Class, but it won't show anything that isn't assigned a class. I was able to find a report that had the option of showing a column named "Class" With this report, I cannot filter by that column header, but at least I can see which transactions are unassigned. Strangely, I also cannot sort by that column...
The report that works for this purpose if anyone else is in my boat (whatever boat that is!) is as follows (adapted from a helpful post from @JessT
You can run the Transaction List by Tag Group report and set the Group by to None. Then, click on the small gear icon on the report section, click Show more and place a checkmark in the Class checkbox. This will show you the list of classed & unclassed transactions.
The red text is what I changed to get what I wanted.
If there is an easier way to do this - I'm all ears. This was a little funky as the sort kept reverting to the default (I sorted by split to group things better) and it was a slow editing process. I would have loved to have found a batch way to change or add a class if someone has that magic trick!!
Thanks so much.
