Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to clarify if anyone experiencing the following issue with QBO Search - please have a look at the screenshot
Search stopped working and does not allow to search more than 2 years backwards. Only till June 2019,
Сontacted QBO support via phone and their agent wasted 40 mins of my time and tried to convict me that something wrong with my settings and used GLANCE to scrutinize the issue and Finally acknowledged that it was their system internal bug and promised to reply via email and confirm it.
She did not do it and and the bug has not been fixed.
Does anyone know more about the issue and maybe it is possible
Hi there, alchuikov.
Welcome back to the QuickBooks Community. I appreciate the detailed information you've shared on what you've done to get help in fixing your issue. This isn't also the kind of impression that I'd like you to have, and we know how much time it can take when something isn’t working the way you need it. This is why we make great efforts to deliver customer satisfaction at all times. With this, I'll ensure to provide details on how the Search icon works.
The Advanced Search function in QuickBooks will only let you search for two years' worth of data (i.e. transactions from 2019 to 2021). That's the reason it only shows June 2019 entries. Meanwhile, you can pull up the Transaction Detail by Account report and customize its Report period with a specific date. This way, you can easily find the transaction you need and manage them accordingly.
Here's how:
For additional information on how you can customize reports and focus on the details that you want to view, you can click this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.
Please refer to this article to view steps on how to get started with Memorized Reports that allows you to save it with its current customization settings: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.
Keep me posted on how it goes. I'm just a comment away if you need further assistance in searching your transactions in QBO. Take care and stay safe.
Hi ChristieAnn,
Thanks for your detailed answer.
But it is not a solution i was looking for.
I am not sure why Inuit cut off QBO functionality.
Have been working with QBO since 2013 and the Search function was the most powerful feature that allowed to search very quickly by different criteria's for the company LIFETIME period. Not only for 2 last years.
I don't remember that I even saw such restrictions.as OUT OF RANGE for a Date filter.
and if i knew that what i was looking for was in 2016-2018 and i needed to see if there was transaction's for example 1357 USD i can quickly search it in 2016-2018 and the system found it
But NOW i can NOT do it by using Search and need to create reports and find it there?
Why? It was so quick and convenient,
Your team support told my yesterday that it was a something like a system bug but as i understand from your post it is your permanent update?
Please advise
We are of the Advanced search issue, alchuikov.
Our product team is investigating the search issues you are experiencing in QuickBooks Online. For us to send you notifications once a fix is available, you can contact us again if your account was not added to the list of affected users yet.
Meantime, you can use the workaround provided by my colleagues by running reports and customizing them to the desired date range.
We hope to have new information for you soon. Always know that the Community is available 24/7 to help. Take care!
This is nuts. Old invoices, estimates, and work orders are why we need the search function. 2 years is unreasonable. Your engineers are apparently are too young to understand that 2 years is just a blip--some of us have been in business for decades. Please put this back to the way it was--this could be a deal-breaker for continuing with QBO.
Can you just clarify if it's a system bug that your engineers are trying to fix now OR you just implemented the restrictions for the search functionality.
If it is the second option that it is really craziness. You should fire your useless software engineers who could do it.
Why? QBO search worked perfectly for the whole LIFE time of the account not only for 2 last yeats and it was one the reason why i always recommended my customers Quckbooks Online and not other cloud apps, for example Xero
And now the system became much worse and my customers and i need to go and create some reports and search the transactions there instead of just put key words of description or sum in the search window and search there instantly
Thank you for your feedback,audiobrad59
We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about ways to improve QBO.
I’d like to let you know we have made changes to the way the date filter in the Advanced Search filter works. In the past, customers were able to run a query expanding as far back as the date their QBO account creation date. These types of queries have caused performance issues in the near past so changes were necessary to ensure QBO availability and, at the same time, access to all your data.
That is why, starting Wednesday, June 16th, 2021, we have changed the way the date filter in the Advanced Search works. You will still have access to all data entered into QBO, the date filter will limit you to look for information in two-year blocks. Thus, if your QBO subscription started in 2015, you will be able to look for information from 2015 - 2017 or 2016 - 2018, etc.
We appreciate your patience and look forward to hearing from you if you have further feedback.
Well, it's good to know we can at least do searches in two year blocks. But I have data back to 2002, and when I go looking for a needle in a haystack, repeating the same search 10 times to cover 19 years really sucks. This is really a backward step for QBO. If you're going to solve your "performance issues" by limiting functionality, then the price should be adjusted accordingly. But since I'm unaware of performance issues in the past with the search function, this seems like Intuit simply wanting to cut costs by throttling capabilities. I am a very unhappy customer right now.
I am a relatively new customer (less than 1 year) and SEARCH DOES NOT WORK RELIABLY. I have an invoice that was entered 11/10/20. It could not be found in the search box at the top right. I had to go into customers and page through the invoices to find it. This is outrageous, ridiculous, and it shows just how sloppy and full of bugs this software is. Completely unacceptable, folks.
Hi @Fiddler,
I appreciate you for reaching out to us about the search bar in QuickBooks Online. I would feel the same way if the transaction isn't showing after entering the correct information.
Ideally, you should be able to search for transactions using the date and other information. Since the invoice isn't showing using the search field, I suggest performing some troubleshooting steps.
This way, we'll be able to isolate and fix the issue on your end. We can use a private browser to open your account and see if the transaction shows up.
This process allows you to access QuickBooks without using a cache, which stores data that creates browser-related issues. Please refer to these keyboard shortcuts depending on the browser you're using:
If the feature works fine, let's switch back to the regular browser and clear its cache. The process will help restore the default setup of the browser.
In case you're still getting the same result, I recommend using another supported web engine. By doing so, we can determine the cause of the issue.
Additionally, I recommend visiting the following article to personalize reports, like how to add a filter or columns in QuickBooks: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.
You're always welcome to post any questions you have in this space. I'll be happy to help you some more with the QuickBooks features. Have a good day.
On Saturday, I had first the first time an issue with search functionality. Every new client that was added on Saturday did not appear in the search feature under the Client tab. I was able to search for all other clients that were added to prior to Saturday, however. The issue is just for the search feature in the Client tab. I was able to find these new clients by clicking command F, but that is one more step that I'd rather not have to use. I already cleared cache and tried in incognito but it did not work. Why would a few entires on one day not appear and all others are fine?
This isn't the kind of experience we want you to have while utilizing the Search tool in QuickBooks Online (QBO), nutrocon.
I know how convenient it would be to always use the process you're accustomed to. Our goal is to make QuickBooks Online remains to be a friendly, efficient, and organized software for all users.
I'd like to reiterate of what AlcaeusF provided workaround. As an alternative, there's a Search built-in feature you can take advantage of.
Here's how:
Also, if the issue persists , I'd suggest getting in touch with our Phone Support Team so we can further investigate. They can also look into the root cause of the issue and open a case for investigation.

That did not work either so I guess I have to contact support.
