Hi, RScott.
I'd be glad to help out with updating your contractor's email address.
There are just a few steps to get this done. Here's how:
1. Hover over the Workers tab in the left navigation panel, then click Contractors.
2. Select the contractor you'd like to change the email address for from the list
3. Make sure you're in the Details section.
4. Change the email address.
5. Click Save when you're finished.
That will do it. The following article provides even more info on adding and editing contractors in QuickBooks Online: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/set-up-payroll/add-edit-and-inactivate-contractors....
Feel free to comment below if you have any other questions. I'll be here to help.
Doesn't work for me ... contractor's email is grayed out and unchangeable (everything else can be changed, hmm).
Also my path is different, rather from left Nav --> Payroll --> Contractors
Hey there, @jeremy22.
Thanks for reaching back out to the Community with the extra clarification on this problem. Let's try another way to change your contractor's email in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. Just follow the easy steps listed below.
4. Press the Edit button beside "New Transaction."
5. Update the email and any other information needed.
6. Click Save when done.
For additional information about editing contractors, just cruise on over to this link. You can also check out our tutorials page in the QuickBooks Community that may come in handy for your business.
This should do the trick. If not, I recommend getting in contact with our Customer Support Team. They have more advanced tools to look further into your account to see why you're not able to change your contractor's email.
Although there are a few ways to update a contractor's email, these instructions that I provided should resolve this problem. The Community is always here to help get your back to running your business as smoothly as possible. Let me know if this helps. Wishing you and your business continued success!
Having the same problem. Going to vendor let's me change the email there, but when I go back to payroll/contractors, the old email is displayed. I need it updated so that my 1099 goes to the correct email. Please advise.
Disregard. I guess it took a few minutes to update. When I refreshed the correct email address is now showing.
I'm glad to hear the steps listed above by my colleague worked for you, mzoro. Please know you're always welcome here in the Community if you ever have any other questions. Take care!
I'm unable to change a vendor's email too, it's greyed out as other's have said. In my version of quickbooks there is no 'expenses' tab on the left side. Any other advice?
Hello holly52,
At this point, I recommend contacting our Support team to check this further using more tools. They are open on weekdays from 6 AM to 6 PM PT. You can follow the steps in this article: QuickBooks Online Support.
If you have other concerns, feel free to go back to this thread.
This does not work. Why is this so difficult to change an email address for a contractor? The email address portion is greyed out because the original email was sent to the wrong address. I'm trying to update it to the correct address. I can't just delete this contractor and make a new one because payments are already tied to that contractor.
Hello there, @HunterF.
I feel your frustration with being unable to use this function as expected. I'm here to share some remedies to resolve this error on the contractor's page.
Unexpected behaviors in QBO are typically caused by browser-stored files. When you visit different websites, the files are saved in your cache so you can load the pages the next time you visit. If the cache contains too much data, it can impair the browsing performance of currently open sites such as QBO.
You can follow these steps to get rid of the error:
1. Click the Reload icon or press CTRL + F5 to refresh QBO.
2. Try changing the contractor's email in a private window to see if you'll get the same error message.
3. If it works in private browsing, clear the cache of your previous browser.
4. Restart the browser.
Additionally, I'm adding this article on how to set up and manage direct deposit for your contractors.
Let me know if there you have follow-up concerns regarding your contractors. I'll be around in the Community.
You have clicked a link to a site outside of the QuickBooks or ProFile Communities. By clicking "Continue", you will leave the community and be taken to that site instead.
