Hi Sniper_Shep.

Thanks for dropping by, I;m happy to clarify which settings to change. What you're going to want to do is Uncheck all boxes under the Excel Options. You can find the steps and articles provided by my colleague, MaryLandT above.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post below. Thank you and have a nice day.

I am having the same issue. QB Desktop 2019. Microsoft Office Professional 2010 32-bit.  Use this same set up on other computers in our office with no issue. I have gone through all of the steps here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/run-reports/fix-export-to-excel-issues-in-quickboo... with nothing working.  I called to talk to Support which they say that it is a "rare situation" and it must be an issue with Microsoft Office.  Looking at this thread, it is not rare.  What am I missing? Help.

Hello, @jkearn.

I appreciate you performing the troubleshooting steps in the article you provided. Since the issue occurs, resolving this problem requires in-depth troubleshooting steps, which can't be done in a public forum like the community for the security of your information. Thus, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team again. They can open an investigation to send to our Product Engineers, and take a look at this and fix it for you.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Enter a brief description of your issue in our Ask a question (or tell us what's wrong) field.
  5. Hit Let's talk.
  6. Choose a way to connect.

Ensure to review their support hours so, you'll know when agents are available.

If there's anything else I can do for you, let me know by commenting below. I'd be around to assist. Take care.

Unable to export to Excel

Hello @jkearn,

I can only speak for the solution that worked for me and it was reinstalling both programs to be under the matching 32-bit or 64-bit installation.

I would imagine they need the same hard drive as well if that is a possibility on your system.

good luck!

The Advanced Excel Options page is completely greyed out so I can not uncheck anything.

Just to leave for someone in the future.  I uninstalled the 64 BIT Office 365 and installed the 32 BIT Office 365 and problem was solved.  Nothing else worked. Did not have to restart computer just quickbooks after 365 installed.

What finally fixed it (the create new worksheet grayed out) for me was to follow Microsoft's Repair Office Installation - make sure that you close Quickbooks first and leave it closed while the Office Repair happens.  ALSO - make sure that you choose the Online Repair (not the Quick Repair) when doing the Microsoft Office Repair.  Once the Microsoft Office repair is done, THEN open Quickbooks, and the create new worksheet is finally not grayed out!!!   There is a link in this feed on how to do the Office Repair, but for mine in Windows 10, this is what I did:

1.  Right click the Windows Start button

2.  Choose Apps and Features

3.  Scroll down to Office 365 and click once.

4.  Click Modify - follow the prompts - this is where you need to make sure you choose Online Repair (not Quick Repair).   This took my computer a good 10 minutes.

5.  Once the Office repair is completely done, then I opened up Quickbooks, and the Create New Worksheet option when exporting to Excel was finally available (not grayed out).

What exactly did you do to solve issue? I have spent over 12 hours and 10 months with this.

Unable to export to Excel

I have both 2016 and 2019 Premier Desktop QB.  Until this week, exporting a report to Excel worked fine.  Now, neither QB can do so.

I have done all the listed steps and, finally, uninstalled the two QB programs and Office 2010, then reinstalled them all, Office first.  No change.

Please help.

Unable to export to Excel

Hi there, @aaaaaadc.

Thank you for the feedback when trying to connect with Support. I'm here to help you today so you'll be able to export your reports to Excel seamlessly.

I can see how hard you've tried to perform the different troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue. For the time being, I would suggest following each step provided from this article for additional solutions: Fix export to Excel issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

I also recommend running the Verify and Rebuild tool to check if the issue within the company file you're using. The process self-identifies and resolves the most commonly known data issues within your company file. For your reference, I recommend checking out the instructions from this link: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Moreover, I would also suggest getting back to our Support Team. This way, a representative can review the previous case you had and can investigate this behavior further.

For more tips about managing reports in QuickBooks Desktop, you can also check out these articles:

Please know that I'm always here to help if you have any other questions about exporting reports to Excel. Just add a comment below. Keep safe!

Unable to export to Excel

Thanks, Angela.

I've already done all those things; I know that article by heart and I really don't want to ever look at it again.  :)

It's not the company file; the problem exists with both the 2016 and 2019 QB  that I use and with any company file.

I will go back to the Support Team as I have no other choice, but I have no confidence in them.  Any other suggestions?  Why has no one else had this problem?  Do you think it's a QB or Office issue?  Thanks!

Unable to export to Excel

Hello again, aaaaaadc.

Thank you for performing the recommended solution from my colleague to help resolve the issue. I have additional steps you can try so you can export your reports to Excel.

Let's download and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This utility can help fix many common issues and errors with the desktop program.

Here's how:

  1. Close your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
  6. Select the Company File Issues tab.
  7. Hit QuickBooks File Doctor tool.

Once done, restart your computer and log in to your accounts again.

For more details about the process above, see this article: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

Keep me posted how things go on your end or if you have follow-up questions. I'm here to answer it for you. Take care.

Unable to export to Excel

I've already done that, using Tool Hub to do the Quick Fix and to do Program Problems, as I was instructed by the Customer Support person.

We also did a Sample Company, to no avail.

But I've followed your suggestion and had Tool Hub fix both of the files I work with, one on QB 2016 and one on QB 2019.  It found no problems in either.

After rebooting, I still have the problem.

I'm thinking of uninstalling QB on my PC and installing it instead on my wife's PC.  She has the same Office 2010 that I do.

Any other suggestions?  Thank you!

This is not the kind of service we want you to experience, aaaaaadc.

I appreciate for performing all the troubleshooting steps above provided by my colleagues. I'm here to ensure that you'll be able to export a report to excel seamlessly.

We can proceed to uninstall and reinstall your QuickBooks desktop. Thus, performing this process, we need to prepare the license and product number. Then create a backup in case there is unusual behavior happen when installing your QuickBooks.

We advise meeting the system requirements to ensure the application is compatible with your setup and will help avoid problems when installing and using it. You can read through these articles for more information about it:

Since you've mentioned, you have QuickBooks 2016 and 2019. QuickBooks no longer supported this software. It could be one of the possible reasons why you're having difficulties exporting your report. You can read through this article about new policy in QuickBooks: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information.

That's it! I'm still here to help you more if you have additional question about QuickBooks Desktop. Just drop a comment below. Have a good one.

I resolved this issue it had to deal with the version of QuickBooks being either 64 or 32 bit. Or Microsoft Office being 64 or 32 bit.  I can't remember at this point but that was the exact reason Excel was not functioning with QuickBooks

I'm not sure why you're suggesting what you did, but thank you for your promise.

As I've said, I've already uninstalled and reinstalled all programs.  I've done it without the 2016 and with the 2016.  I have a brand new HP laptop and it's way past the system requirements.

There seems to be some kind of problem that either QB program has exporting the file.  When I uninstalled all the programs and then reinstalled only QB 2019, it still had the problem, even without any version of Excel on the PC.

Isn't there a high-level QB tech who can address this programmatic issue?

I assure you that I have done everything you have suggested.  I even installed Quickbooks 2021 on the same machine and it also has the same issue.

I just installed QB 2019 on my second PC, which has the identical Office 2010 on it.  Exporting to Excel worked just fine.

That should give your tech people a clue as to what's wrong.

Please respond.

Unable to export to Excel

I'm posting this here to save someone the headache that I had to go through.

After installing Office 365 as a test, and then removing it - the excel options were going from QB.

I uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, etc. etc. with no luck.

using regedit - Delete the 1.9 key under:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{00020813-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

Then restart QB - problem solved.
