When adding products to an invoice, we type a few characters and a window pops up with options. The font is now large so we can't read the entire product name. Fix soon?

Why does the QBO user interface continue to change? We can now only see the first few characters of each product, which makes invoice entering blindingly difficult. This issue began a month ago. Calling QBO customer service and running through several "fixes" ended in the following response: "It is what it is".

I can see how the updates affect your navigation. QuickBooks Online (QBO) constantly makes changes for a better experience.


To resolve this, please check your computer display settings. You’ll want to make sure you’ve met the required settings for QBO. This way, all pages are displayed properly.


Here’s how:

 

  1. Right-click any blank spot on the desktop.
  2. Choose Screen Resolution. Make sure the screen resolution is set to 1024x768 or higher.
  3. Select Make text and other items larger or smaller and make sure that the DPI is set to Smaller - 100%.


If the computer display settings are good, you can also follow these instructions to change your browser's font size. There's a possibility that the font size of your browser is set to small.

 

  1. Click the Three dots, then select Settings.

  2. Under Appearance, select a Font size.
  3. Go to the Page zoom drop-down and pick a size.

  4. Refresh the page, then go back to your QBO account and check the character size of the items.

Thank you for the response, but the recommended steps do not fix the problem. They were all tried (and more) during my phone call with QBO customer service.

 

When adjusting my computer screen's resolution and font size, everything scales together. No matter how small I shrink everything in my browser window, the invoice product selection pop-up window scales with it.

Outside of the workarounds given above by my colleague MadelynC, if you're still getting the same error, you may also try accessing your account using another supported browser. 

 

Below are the supported browsers of QuickBooks Online:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox. Note: To preview and print forms on Mac OS, you'll also need the Firefox PDF plugin.
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Safari 11 or newer (Mac only)

If you want to see if your current browser is compatible, use the browser health checkup tool.

In general, QuickBooks supports the current and two previous versions of browsers. We don't always support older versions.

Thank you for the reply, however changing browsers did not correct the issue.

 

We have this same issue with multiple accounts, on multiple computers, and different browsers.

 

NOTE: This change in the pop-up window happened the same time QBO changed the Invoice Product/Service lookup feature from searching for an exact match (where results were returned in alphabetical order) to a Search Engine type lookup (where results seem ranked according to some QBO algorithm).

 

I'm surprised other people aren't reporting the same issue.

Since changing browsers still didn’t fix the issue, I recommend contacting our technical support team once more. Our support has special tools that can determine the cause of this change. They can also provide additional fixes to resolve it.


Before that, please check our business hours so you can contact us at a time convenient to you. Then follow these steps:

 

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Click/Type in “Talk to a human.”
  3. Enter your brief concern in the field.
  4. Select I still need a human, then Get help from a human.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.
