I am having trouble printing my 1099-NEC. I can create them - but when I click to print and choose my printer, the system "acts" like it is going to print but it doesn't. It is not in the print queue, and nothing prints. I have tried all 3 printers in office but get the same results. I was able to print them once - to test the alignment and to verify the WI state payroll ID appeared correctly. The ID only showed on the top vendors 1099. After that I cannot print anything. I have update my QB including critical fixes.
I admire you for the details for your concern with us, @gldreamhomes.
I've got some steps we can perform to get around this issue.
I suggest closing your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and restarting your computer to refresh the system.
If this is not the case, I recommend downloading the QuickBooks Tool Hub and running the Quick Fix my Program to isolate and fix this matter. I'll show you how.

JasroV - Thank you for the help but unfortunately it did not work. :-( After, the first fix didn't work, I proceeded to do the other 2 "fixes" to see if they would work - nope. The system won't even let me preview the pages.
I can print everything else through QuickBooks. This is very frustrating. Any other suggestions?
I've got some steps we can perform to print the 1099 NEC form in QuickBooks, gldreamhomes.
I appreciate you for performing the solutions provided by my colleague. When printing forms in QuickBooks, renaming the QBPrint.qbp file can resolve this issue. Then, run the QuickBooks PDF & Print Repair Tool to fix the damaged components on your PDF file. Here's how:
We can also follow the steps in the Troubleshoot PDF and Print problems with QuickBooks Desktop article to troubleshoot problems when printing forms in your software. If the same thing happens, let's try opening another company file to check if you're having a problem with only one file and not the program itself. Here's how:
Then, try printing the 1099 form again. If the problem persists, there may be damaged data on the company file you've been working with. We can run the Rebuild Data tool is built-in to fix any company file data issues. Just follow the steps and detail in this article: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file. We can also repair the software to fix any damaged components in the software.

I'd like to know how you get on after trying the steps, as I want to ensure this is resolved for you. Just reply to this post and I'll get back to you. You have a good one.
Unfortunately, none of those worked. I have tried every single fix that you suggested and those that came up after completing your recommendations. Ahhhhh - this is absolutely frustrating. I have never had this issue before. I can print everything else from QuickBooks - vendor invoices, customer invoices, reports, etc.
Any other suggestions???
Hi, @gldreamhomes.
I appreciate you for performing the steps provided to print your 1099-NEC form. I'll be sharing with you some additional troubleshooting guides to print the form in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
First, I recommend closing, then reopening QBDT to isolate the issue. Once opened, prepare and print the form. If the error continues, you can run the Verify and Rebuild tool to self-identify and resolve the most commonly known data issues within your file.
Here's how to verify the data:
Once done, try printing your form again.

Okay - Now to add mystery to an already mysterious problem - I can print the 1096 but still cannot print the 1099's. I will be calling into the support desk tomorrow as the deadline is getting closer.
I have been following this message feed because I am having the exact same problem. I called the help line and spoke with a couple agents who were very nice but still have the same issue. I am trying to create a template on my own. I have the information I need to fill out the 1099 NEC. I was just wondering if you were able to resolve anything.
JasroV, RCV, and Angelyn_T,
I wanted to say Thank you to all 3 of you for all of your help with my 1099-NEC printing issue. In the end I needed to contact customer support. We had to update QB but I had to turn off MacAfee for it to download all of the updates.
Thanks again!!
I was wondering if you had any luck calling the help line. I am having the exact same issue. I think I am going to create a template for the 1099 NEC on my own and fill it out. That seems easier.
We have desktop 2018...we only need to print these forms correctly as we have switched to Quickbooks online and full payroll service which is very costly and they want me to buy an upgrade for $549 just to print these forms...they will not support and give me the fix to print these correctly in 3 to a page instead of 2 to a page...currently looking for new software that will actually help their customers...very poor customer service and not helpful chat at all
I can see how hard you tried here. No worries, I'll make it up to you to ensure you never have to deal with this again, KIMCON.
I appreciate the time and effort in reaching out to our support agent. I'll personally share your feedback with our Customer Support Team regarding your experience. We'll be able to take action on improving our customer service.
This year there was a change in the printing format and to print 3-part 1099s. Let's make sure that you’ve updated the current release for your product. To confirm which release you have, just press the F2 button when logged in to QuickBooks. This opens the Product Information screen and looks at the release version extension. It'll be the underscore and a number.
You’re good to go and have the capability to print the 3-part 1099 forms if your product information shows the release version and extension for your product year above or higher. If your product release and version are lower than those listed, you’ll need to update your QuickBooks.
You can install the trial license of QuickBooks 2021 or 2022. You can refer to this article's Step 3 section for the step-by-step guide: Upgrade your company files after switching to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop. Before upgrading your company file, it would be best to create a backup copy of your file if you ever run into problems, you can use your backup to restore your data. Then, update QuickBooks to the latest release. I've outlined the steps below:
Once you’ve gone through the update process, press F2 again and confirm the release version and extension have been updated. If not, try updating again. If you are on a multi-user mode, all additional users must be logged off, then the QuickBooks Admin can log in and update QuickBooks. Then, close and restart the software. If other users are logged in during this process, those files won’t update.
Once the update has been installed, go to the 1099 Wizard and print Form 1099-NEC. For more information about fixing printing issues in QuickBooks, consider checking out this article: Troubleshoot Issues With Printing And PDF Files.
If you already migrated to QuickBooks Online, you can print the 3 page1099-NEC forms. If you're unable to view this option, let's check out our guide on printing 1099s in QuickBooks Online.
I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you, please let me know how it goes or if you have any other issues or concerns. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you. Take care always.
I was having this same issue where I could print anything else from QB except my 1099-NEC forms. I kept getting an error popping up that it could not print and maybe another program was canceling it.
I tried several of the fixes on here to no avail, spent a long time on the phone with customer support, and finally what worked was selecting a different printer first (which didn't work because it was a different version maybe no longer installed) and then I went back and tried the correct printer. Go figure! Literally probably 2 hours after I first had the issue and had been working on solutions.
So another option to try if anyone else is struggling with this!
