Join nowI've been using QB for 20+ years- an ever changing process.
We are subscribed with QB plus and QB online payroll core.
With our 1099's, I have always printed them out myself and US mailed them out and mailed to IRS. IRS has changed the requirements so now we have to efile the 1099's. In working through that process in QB, I was able to view the recipients, option to instruct which 1099 box needed to be ticked, review the list and then the option of allowing QB to electronically file/email and US mail the 1099's to the recipients or no/print and mail my own.
With the QB subscription I have, QB is not supposed to charge me to electronically file the 1099's, but there is not an option that I found where I can print my own forms on my own purchased 1099 forms AND have QB electronically file them.
What I can see is you have one of two choices: pay QB to us mail/email and electronically file for you OR print and mail your own and up to you to figure out how to efile them to the IRS. Am I missing something?
Is there an option to print your own AND have QB efile only??? Why does my QB subscription state that it will electronically file the 1099's for no additional charge and leave out the 'ONLY IF YOU PAY US TO US MAIL AND EMAIL'??
Hopefully I am incorrect and have missed something and thus my post- please correct me if I am missing something here.

I'm here to shed some light on whether you'll need to pay charges if QuickBooks sends a copy of the 1099 to your contractors, @CrissyBANC.
Once you e-filed in QuickBooks, the 1099 forms will be mailed to your contractors to the addresses indicated in the contractor's profile by January 31. Since this is covered in your payroll core subscription, there will be no additional charges for this service. That said, there's no need for you to mail the form manually.
Meanwhile, the Accepted status you've seen means that the agency has received and accepted the form.

I recognize you're paying for QBO Plus and Payroll subscription, @CrissyBANC. Let me clarify the charges and availability of the options on your end.
You're right, you should be able to e-file 1099 with Payroll Core. This service covers unlimited e-filing and auto-sending of copies to contractors.
When preparing the forms, you can either e-file your 1099s or print and mail them yourself. If you issued them already, please know there's a limit on the number of paper forms you can file by paper. Otherwise, utilize the e-file service so QuickBooks can do everything for you. Therefore, printing your own and e-filing them only in QuickBooks is unavailable.
In case you need to make corrections to 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms after you e-filed them, see this article for further guidance: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.
Furthermore, you can also access archived or previously filed forms in your QuickBooks Online account.
You can always get back here if you've got further questions about e-filing 1099s in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to assist you thoroughly. Take care.
To clarify your response, QB can not efile the 1099's for me to the IRS if I choose to print and mail (just to the subcontractors) myself? I must pay additional if I choose efile 1099's (therefore QB would be doing the printing & US mailing/emailing to the subcontractors).
And there is no option to ask QB to efile to IRS the (1099's/1096) but allow me to print my own and US mail my own, correct?
Hello there, Crissy. We'll provide details to clear out confusion with electronic filing inside QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Yes, you're right about the program being unable to electronically file 1099s to the IRS and let you choose to print and mail them. There's an additional charge if you wish to e-file your 1099s.
Now, about asking QuickBooks to e-file your forms to the IRS while allowing you to print your own and have it mailed. It's possible to e-file and have them printed out, but know that it would cause you duplicates, which is not advisable. However, if you mean to print your purchased 1099 forms and have them electronically processed, know that the option you're trying to access is unavailable.

Kurt, my apologies, but your response did not make much sense to me.
The first QB employee who responded I would like to ask her:
Your response also shared that the charges would be outlined, but I did not find that information in the response.
Is there an additional charge for QB to email/US mail these out with my particular subscription?
When I look at the 1099 status (on side menu: Taxes, 1099 filings), it shows me a status of "accepted" and under recipients copy column "emailed, mailed" for each of the subcontractors listed.
I am assuming that means that QB has emailed and will be US mailing the 1099's out? That is what I would like to know the charge of as when I worked through the printing process (as I have always printed and mailed myself) I did not see where it gave me the information of what it would be billing. That's why I am not sure if it is or isn't. I have them printed and ready to go, but certainly don't want to spend additional for postage if it will be mailed out by QB and I'm being billed for it. I've already wasted ink, forms and envelopes on this not knowing a new process was present- just don't want to waste the postage and redundancy/confusion to subs receiving twice.
I appreciate your time and help to clarify.
