I am surprised and disappointed that the support team at Intuit is not aware of this issue in TurboTax. And I am similarly disappointed that no one has taken ownership of the issue, and found a conclusive answer. Is this a bug in the program, or is Intuit looking for us to migrate/upgrade to a different product? An answer would be most welcomed.
Use the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 Enterprise. They don't offer the trial version for Pro edition since QB Desktop 2022.
Thanks for the suggestion. What happens, however, at the end of the trial period? Given the pricing of Enterprise, I'm not looking to make or pay for the upgrade, given that our version of Desktop Pro is more than adequate.
You can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 Enterprise to export your data to Turbo Tax. You will need a workaround to use the trial version for good.
Will we able to revert back to Desktop Pro? Or will the fact that we installed the trial Enterprise version prevent us from doing so?
You can purchase a 3rd party service to convert data from Enterprise to Pro/Premier/Mac.
I appreciate the info, but that seems far too cumbersome a workaround for a process that has been straightforward for years.
Just wanted to also say that when you hit the import and you get the no qiuckbooks desktop file has been found and you move on with the continue without importing the next screen has a troubleshoot blue line you can bring up a popup and it says it works with Quickbooks 2017 or later version?? so why wont it work i have the 2020 version????
Unfortunately, no one at Intuit seems to recognize there's an issue/bug with their software. It's impossible to get an answer from them.
Ditto. It is very frustrating and disappointing, and would expect better service from Intuit, or at least acknowledge the problem and work on solving the problem.
I don't have the license for TurboTax 2023/2024. If any of you are interested, contact me in private and we can schedule to run a screen sharing session to use the trial version of QB Desktop 2023 or 2024 to isolate this problem.
I have the exact same issue. Desktop 21 and verified everything others here suggested. No luck.
Have you tried to use the trial version of QBD 2023 and 2024?
Hi akfischer,
I appreciate you for performing the troubleshooting steps shared by my colleagues.
Since the issue persists, I recommend getting in touch with one of our phone support experts so we can create an investigation about this matter. Here's how:
Once the issue is resolved, you can check these articles that laid out how to import your data into TurboTax:
Don't hesitate to get back to the thread whenever you need help importing data.
One shouldn't need to use the trial version, as the software should be free from the bugs/issues people are reporting. Plus, once one installs the trial version, it becomes very difficult to revert back to the original version one was using.
I have been in touch with Intuit support, and they are not able to resolve the issue, nor were they aware of it. I do want to send a shoutout to Ken at Intuit, who committed to finding an answer, and did personally follow up a few weeks later with me to say that unfortunately he was not able to find anyone who know about the bug/issue people are facing.
You only need to use the trial version to export your data to TurboTax. You do not need to upgrade your version to Enterprise. This is the same workaround for QBO users.
I am also having the same issue. I have Quickbooks Desktop 2020. I have been using QB Desktop versions and Turbo Tax for over 20 years expressly for the Import function. Followed the steps from the previous suggested to no luck. If this does not get resolved, Intuit will have lost a 20+ year customer for both software platforms. If I have to manually input this info, I might as well enter the info directly into the IRS online forms for free.
I understand your disappointment when a long-standing feature like the Import function isn't working as expected, and I appreciate you for relying on it for over 20 years, @pcline
Can you tell me the exact steps you've performed from the suggested resolutions? In the meantime, I would recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team if you haven't already. They can pull up your account securely to further investigate that issue and may create an investigation ticket if needed.
They can be reached while using QuickBooks. Here's how:
Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available. In the event you're unable to reach out to Intuit through your books, you can get in touch through our website.

Followed the steps from the previous suggested to no luck.
Which steps? Have you installed the trial version of QBD 2023 or 2024?
I have been in touch with Intuit support, and they are not able to resolve the issue/bug in the software, nor were they aware of it.
One should not need to install the trial version of the program to correct for a bug in the software. The software should work as is, and as it has done for years.
i have tried your instructions but still i can import from quickbooks 2021 desktop.
I am facing the same problem
Which instruction? Using the trial version of 2023 or 2024?
