MN UI added an additional 5% assessment but QB payroll tax settings STILL doesn't have that as an option to add. When will this be updated?
This is not showing up. How do we add this or do we just wait until QuickBooks gets around to adding this feature?

Has this been added yet to quickbooks desktop?
Thanks for getting involvedf with this thread, jhoh1234.
I can certainly understand how an option to add an additional 5% for Minnesota UI could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.
You can also submit your own feedback while signed in.
Here's how:
Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.
I've also included a detailed resource about working with payroll which may come in handy moving forward: Update your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate
I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful Tuesday!
@ZackE that's your response? Seriously.
"I can certainly understand how an option to add an additional 5% for Minnesota UI could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today."
That's your response? Seriously ???
This is not an "optional" addition. This is a requirement for correct payroll tax processing, that took place 1 Jan 2025!!!! It's April and STILL not fixed! I'm at the end of my rope with QB.
@Erika_K , Well before the payment deadline??? It's mid April. This took affect 1 Jan. it's impossible to get through to any customer "support" - especially payroll support. My case in the "resolution center" was closed with a comment that I should adjust the rate myself!!!!! Wow.
Agreed!! I am having a terrible time with Quickbooks customer support. They don't seem to have an answer for any of my problems. We received an email stating there would be an add for the additional assessment by the end of the 1st quarter. It is the end of the 1st quarter and still have not seen a fix for quickbooks desktop.
I am also waiting to update this in Quickbooks. What is everyone else doing in the mean time. I am not sure what I need to do to pay the correct taxes. Any advice is much appreciated.
Nikki
You can make a payment directly to your state agency, Podsauto. By the end of the quarter, get the correct gross income amounts of your employees' salaries and multiply the employer's SUI rate. Then, multiply the result by an additional 5%. Let me provide further assistance to help you understand this process better.
Before we continue, please note that it's advisable to have your QuickBooks first you that you need to open the Quarterly Summary report to get the accurate gross income from your employees paycheck.
Additionally, here's an example of the calculation:
Juan made a gross of $1,000 for the pay period. His employer's SUI rate is 1.75%.
The MN SUI due is $17.50, and the Special Assessment due is $0.88 ($17.50 x 5%), not $50.00 ($1,000 x 5%).
Moreover, after you make the payment and QuickBooks is set up, you can apply the liability adjustment. Here’s how to do it:
Furthermore, you can check this article for more detailed information about the adjustment: Adjust payroll liabilities in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.
Since you've paid outside, you need to mark the state tax payments as paid in QuickBooks for recording purposes. Refer to this article: Enter historical tax payments in Desktop payroll.
You can also run a payroll summary report, which gives you the total payroll wages, taxes, deductions, and contributions. In case you need help with running this report, click the Reply button and we'll respond to you as soon as possible.
What exactly are we paying QBO payroll for then? This is honestly ridiculous.
MN people- just got to the website and answer the questions. The calculations are done for you after entering the pay.

Can we though? Really?
RE: While we're unable to provide a specific timeline for when the MN UI Additional Assessment will be available in QuickBooks, rest assured we're committed to providing you with a reliable update well before the Q1 payment and filing deadline.
Well you have two weeks until April 31, and assuming you think it'll take your payroll customers more than zero time at all, you'll need to have the update fully deployed a few days before that. So, you have maybe 10 days. Do you have a timeline yet?
RE: We recognize how essential accurate payroll processing is, and we're working diligently to ensure you have the tools and resources you need to remain compliant.
It's been more than three months since this post was started, and probably four or five months since Intuit knew of the change. How's that diligent work going?
RE: Meanwhile, I'll be adding a few articles to provide you instant visibility into your payroll totals, detailed employee tax breakdowns, contributions, and access historical payroll records:
No one asked for that. It's off topic and distracting.
RE: I can certainly understand how an option to add an additional 5% for Minnesota UI could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.
I'm so relieved you can understand that. I agree, it would be really cool if we could add the tax that's been required now for three and a half months. Such a great idea! Yes, we should all put in a suggestion! I mean, think of it!
RE: I've also included a detailed resource about working with payroll which may come in handy moving forward
No one asked for that and no one on this thread wants to read it.
RE: You can make a payment directly to your state agency, Podsauto.
What? Why would doing that be necessary? Intuit has repeatedly promised to have a solution before one is needed. Since we have been assured that the team has been working diligently on this since January, I'm sure they're almost done, right? You have about 10 days.
RE: By the end of the quarter, get the correct gross income amounts of your employees' salaries and multiply the employer's SUI rate.
By the end of the quarter? The end of the quarter was 16 days ago. You do realize that, right?
RE: Moreover, after you make the payment and QuickBooks is set up, you can apply the liability adjustment. Here’s how to do it:
Intuit's solution is for all of their customers to manually enter per-employee liability adjustments for this tax? Really?
What happened to: "You can count on our dedicated Payroll Team, who are working to develop a comprehensive solution that will seamlessly integrate the Minnesota UI Additional Assessment requirement into QuickBooks with precision and efficiency." @Erika_K- Jan 9 ?
Do you think yours is a "comprehensive solution", one that "seamlessly integrates the Minnesota UI Additional Assessment requirement into QuickBooks"? If so, I don't think anyone else does.
