I'm using QBO and have a frustrating issue. I sell online products (software) so my purchases are made through PayPal. They are automatically brought into QB so that's nice and usually works well. Nothing I sell charges tax. However, every once in a while when I try to save a sales receipt it gives me the error 'Taxable check is missing for the tax line'. I figured out I can usually change the tax rate dropdown to 'PayPal Sales Tax 0%' and it will go through which is annoying but whatever.
Now, however, I have one transaction that I just can't do the sales receipt for. When I try to accept it I get that error. When I change it to the PayPal Sales Tax for the tax rate dropdown it tells me 'Unexpected Tax Line found. Unable to save transaction'. I've also tried checking and unchecking the 'tax' column on the individual item sold with no difference. So it seems no matter what I set the values to it won't let me categorize this transation.

We can try troubleshooting your regular browser to confirm if this is a browser issue. Thus, try logging out and signing in again with your QBO account. If you can't go through with your sales receipt, log in with your account using a private browser. It prevents websites from using cookies and doesn’t record any history and data.
To do so, you can follow these shortcut keys on your keyboard:
If you're able to create the sales receipt using incognito mode, it's safe to say that this is a browser issue. We can fix this by clearing your cache and cookies.
However, if the issue persists, I recommend using another supported browser. For more information about this, you can check this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Online products.
Moreover, you can also contact our support team in case the error continues to occur after troubleshooting. These experts are well-equipped and can assist you appropriately via live chat or callback.
In addition, there are times when you need to manage your customer's payments so your accounting stays accurate. In this case, you might need to void or refund customer payments in QuickBooks Online.

Same behavior in incognito.
It's not an invoice it's a sales receipt. It's technically from a PayPal invoice and it came into QB through the PayPal connection and is a sales receipt. I am trying to categorize it, nothing is marked as taxable, I'm not trying to override or change the tax amount, but it still shows this error.
I chatted with support and this is broken and not working right (they could not get it to categorize either). They suggested that I create an invoice in QB with the same items and then match the PayPal transaction to the invoice. I will try that when I get a chance but that's definitely a workaround not a solution.
