For some reason, my property tax payments are not showing up in the P&L report. I tagged the correct account. They show up in my 2020 P&L. I know I must have done something wrong by my investigation shows that I entered them the same way in 2021 as I entered them in 2020 and yet they are not showing up in the profit and loss.
Some years I make the payments in two installments some years I write one check. I've investigated back five years and whether I wrote two checks or one check, property taxes shows up in the P&L of all those previous years. Just not 2021. I am stumped.
Good morning CR56,
You have come to the right place for help! We usually recommend verifying and rebuilding your data, especially regarding discrepancies on reports. Most of the time, the system can detect data issues within the company file and the Rebuild Tool self-resolves the data integrity issues. So, let's start by verifying your data; here's how:
If you receive the first message, there is no need to use the rebuild tool. But instead, hit the reply bottom below and let me know so we can tackle this from another angle. However, if you received the second message, continue with the instruction so the tool can repair the issues. Once that is completed, rerun the Verify tool to correct the problem and the Profit and Loss Report.
This article is an excellent resource for more information on the Verify and Rebuild tools. Let me know if you need additional assistance and if you were able to get your report running correctly. I will be here looking out to your response. Take care in the meantime.
I contacted someone who found that I have some corrupted data files. Apparently it's at 82% and he says I need to rebuild it or fix it before it hits 85%. The cost to repair it was prohibitive for me-$1300. I guess I assumed I had access to support because I faithfully purchased QuickBooks every three years since 2004. Is there some other way to repair this corrupted file or files?
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated,
Let's make sure you'll be able to repair your corrupted data files, CR56.
QuickBooks Desktop uses different types of files to store different types of data. You'll have to make sure you're opening the correct company file with a .qbw extension at the end of the filename. If you have already rebuilt your company file using the rebuild data tool but it's still showing as a corrupted file, use the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix the issue.
However, if the issue persists, you can proceed with other solutions found in this article: Fix Data Damage On Your QuickBooks Desktop Company File. Also, we strive to provide the best customer support for your needs. Learn from this article on how you'll get unlimited access to support for currently supported products: Cares Plan For QuickBooks Desktop.
Furthermore, I've added this article for more information about discontinuation policy: QuickBooks Desktop Service Discontinuation Policy and Upgrade Information.

Thank you kindly for all that information. I did try to use the File Doctor but it requires a login and password and none of mine work so it must be something separate and I cannot get it to open. I will peruse all the other information you gave me. And thanks again.
Something strange is happening when I click on the links you provide. The page opens for just about 1/2 a second and then goes white, that is blank. No matter what the right click on it or right-click and open in a new tab. I will see what I can do with a different browser.
The blank page issue finally resolved itself.
Thanks for getting back with the Community, CR56.
When running QuickBooks File Doctor, after initiating its Check your file utility, you'll be asked to enter your QuickBooks admin password for the company file you're working with.
If you need to reset your admin password, you can do so while using QuickBooks.
Here's how:
In the event you're using QuickBooks 2019 or earlier, your steps will be a bit different for resetting the admin password.
In regard to the links provided by MariaSoledadG not loading up properly, I'd recommend checking your browser. It's possible this could have something to do with temporary internet files. Browsing applications store these types of records, but sometimes they can cause issues with certain webpages. You can open a private window and check to see if the articles display properly.
Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:
If the webpages load up correctly while browsing privately, it's safe to say this problem's being caused by your browser. It can be fixed by clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies.
In the event it continues occurring while using incognito, you'll initially want to try switching to another browsing application.
Here's a list of supported browsers:
You can also check a browser's compatibility by utilizing our browser health checkup tool. Intuit supports the current and two previous versions of browsers. If you find that you're using an older version, make sure to update it to its latest release. Steps for doing so can be found on the particular company's website.
In the event you've found no problems that could be causing this with your browser, I'd recommend using a different device and/or internet connection. If it also continues happening on other devices and/or internet connections, please get back with me here.
Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a wonderful day!
I really appreciate all the help. I may not be understanding my own problem very well. I'm not sure what the admin password is. When I open QuickBooks, every so often it asks me for a password just to get the program open. I know that password. I have never created an admin password and I cannot find any kind of a utility or window that will allow me to change the admin password. Since I've never created one, I remain uncertain how to proceed from here. I apologize for being so dense.
Thank you for getting back to us, @CR56.
I can provide you with some information about the admin username and password.
An admin has full access to all areas of the company file. If you haven't set this up yet, I can guide you on how to create one.
Here's how to set up your QuickBooks administrator and password:
For more information about admin username and password, check out this article: Set up QuickBooks Desktop administrator and password.
See this article for more details about users and their permissions: QuickBooks Desktop Users and Restrictions.
Once you're done, here's how to fix possible data issues with your company file: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
If you have other questions about setting up permissions for users in QuickBooks, let me know to assist you. I'm here to help. Stay safe and have a nice day ahead.
Thank you,
That info on Admin passwords helped greatly. I was able to open the repair hub and use it. Either the fellow on the phone was pulling my leg, or the repair utility did not find any corrupted files. I am not sure how to proceed now. Either I have a nearly incapacitated Quickbooks program or I was scammed.
Thanks for following up with the Community, CR56.
Since the Verify/Rebuild and QuickBooks File Doctor utilities didn't solve your issues, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team directly. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
They can be reached while using QuickBooks.
Here's how:
Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.
I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have a great day!
