I'm just blasting this question everywhere until I get the answer I know is out there. I signed up for this monthly subscription bundle mostly because it included free federal filing. Yet when I tried to file my taxes earlier this year, there was a filing fee attached. I filed for an extension and now I'm ready to file, but again, TurboTax is wanting to charge the filing fee.
Of course when I call, the support person had no idea what I was talking about. She didn't seem to know this was part of the bundle. I was sure it was, so I went to searching and found several threads on here with others having the exact same issue. All the Customer Service responses seemed robotic (no surprise there) and unhelpful for the most part. "Contact support" except support doesn't have the answer. "Check out this article" except that article doesn't help either.
Not only did other users here confirm what I was sure was true, I found that they're (Quickbooks) STILL advertising the bundle the same way with the tax filing included "when you bundle with Turbo Tax". SO WHY are they making it SO difficult to follow through on their promises??
As a business person, it REALLY bothers me when companies do NOT follow through with their promises. It causes mistrust for all business owners trying to do honest business.
If anyone reading this has found the answer, I would appreciate the help!
You're right, @JennyJo . The Tax Bundle you've paid will waive the federal filing fees and state return.
Since you're asked to pay, I recommend contacting our Support Team. I understand you already reached out to then. However, they're the only ones who can access private information. Just take note of our operating hours so we can address your concerns on time.
Here's how:
1. Go to the Help icon.
2. Select the Contact Us button.
3. Enter your concern, then press Continue.
See this article to learn how to review everything after you send your tax info: Send QuickBooks Self-Employed tax info to TurboTax Self-Employed or Live.
You'll want to review your tax profile in QuickBooks Self-Employed too. This way, we can ensure it's updated to estimate your tax payments accurately.
Let me know if you still have follow-up questions about this or anything tax-related. I'm always here to assist you. Keep safe.
Thank you, JamaicaA. I appreciate the response and the confirmation that I wasn't imagining the filing fee being included with my subscription. When I called, it was during support hours, but for some reason even though I explained which subscription I had she didn't "see" that the filing fee was included.
Before I posted this question, I did what you suggested with the Contact Us feature. I ended up scheduling an appointment for a call back. So hopefully this time I will get the answer I need.
I will follow up here, either way, in case anyone else is following this or has this issue going forward.
Thanks again!
I just had a whole update written on this but when I clicked "Post" I got an "authentication error", which happens to me every time I try to post on my usual browser. I have to go on an incognito tab in order to post, not sure what is going on there.
Anyway, my issue was resolved after an hour on the phone with one of TurboTax's support people. It's unfortunate that they can't see what is included in these bundles on their end. That's 2 people I talked to within this company that didn't see what I can see by just searching online for the bundle packages and what is included. I would think that would be a basic resource. And even more frustrating that they can't find an answer when this has been an ongoing issue for a couple of years for several people.
In the end, I'm grateful to the woman that helped me, she was determined to help me. And she did, in the end. Whoever mentioned the "discount code" in another thread was on the right track. When I mentioned that post and that a discount code was what fixed the issue for someone else, she was able to get a code from her manager that zeroed out my filing fee.
It would be great if that was just made clear somewhere within our subscription bundle information or accounts or even on the page when you file (that you need a discount code to zero out the filing fee). Just a suggestion!
I’m having this exact same problem this year!!!! I’ve filed for four years with this tax bundle with no problem but this year it’s not working. I’ve already spent over two hours with support reps and no one knows what’s wrong. One person even asked me what Quickbooks Self-employed is…. WHAT?! I’ll try bringing up the code but we’ll see. I’m beyond frustrated.
I am having the same exact problem. If you find the answer please let us all know.

this happens to me almost every year -- sounds like the key is to make sure to do it early enough to chat w support to get a code to refund it when it glitches like this. its v frustrating but good news is they are taking much better care of us now than they were during the pandemic. at that time they just denied my request for a refund...
