Buy nowWhile preparing W2s and after reviewing all the information and printing copies for employees, I received a brief message about "W2's are sent" but I don't know what that actually means. I had not started the e-file process, just the printing forms process. I have checked the e-filings status and it does not show up as being submitted. I have also not received any confirmation emails like I did last year. I have searched to see what may have happened but cannot find any screen shot of this type of message. I want to make sure I'm not in danger of submitting them twice.

The message "W-2s are sent" indicates that the W-2 forms have been transmitted to the relevant parties, such as employees or the IRS. However, this does not necessarily mean the e-filing process has been initiated. I'll be providing details below, CMC.
Since you haven't initiated the e-filing process and haven't received any confirmation emails, it is evident that the forms were not submitted twice. Once the forms are sent, it would be helpful for the employee to access and verify their receipt through QuickBooks Workforce. If you haven't invited them yet, check out this article for guidelines: Invite your employees to QuickBooks Workforce to see pay stubs and W-2s if you use QBDT Payroll.
Moreover, you can explore this article to learn how to check the status of the payroll tax forms and payments you sent electronically through QuickBooks: Check the status of your payroll tax payments or filings sent through QuickBooks Payroll.
Furthermore, if you need to obtain a copy of your W-2s in QuickBooks, refer to the section on printing W-2 forms in the QBDT section of this article for comprehensive details: Print W-2 and W-3 forms.

@CMC1915 It was probably QuickBooks' message about making the W-2s available for employees to access on whatever QuickBooks' little side hustle is. I can't recall the name, but it's mentioned somewhere in the window when you open the W-2 payroll form.
It has nothing to do with sending W2s to either the state or federal government.
