Welcome back to the QuickBooks Community, uservickiekay5. Yes, it's possible to move your company file or QuickBooks Desktop to a different computer and upgrade to a more current version. With this, I'll ensure to provide the steps by steps instructions so you can achieve this matter.

First, you'll have to make sure you're able to convert your QuickBooks company from Mac to Windows: You can read through this article for the step-by-step instructions: Convert a QuickBooks for Mac file to QuickBooks for Windows.

If you encounter any errors during the conversion process, you can use this article as a reference to resolve them: Error: QuickBooks is not able to convert your Mac file to a Windows file.

After converting the file, you'll have to secure a backup copy of your company file. This can be used to restore your data if you ever run into problems.

Then, you can now start transferring your company details by moving your QuickBooks Desktop to another computer. To start with, go to your old computer and perform the steps below.

  1. Go to the File menu and select Utilities from QuickBooks.
  2. Choose Move QuickBooks to another computer.
  3. Select I'm Ready and create a one-time password.
  4. Follow the instructions to choose the USB flash drive you’ll use. Then wait for the files to be copied.

Then, you can now go on the new computer and please follow these steps:

  1. Insert the USB flash drive. Due to Windows security restrictions, the Migrator Tool won’t automatically open.
  2. Open the flash drive to view its files and double-click the file Move_QuickBooks.bat to start the migrator.
  3. Enter the password you created and select Let's go.
  4. Wait for the Migrator Tool to finish. Note: This will depend on the speed of your computer and internet, and the size of your company file(s).

Additionally, can use the Migrator Tool to move QuickBooks Desktop and up to three company files to another computer. This can be done if you’re using a US version of QuickBooks Desktop 2018 or newer as a single user.

Once QuickBooks is installed on another computer, you can now restore the backup copy of the company file from the old location to the new one. Then, you can now click this article to see detailed steps on how you can upgrade to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop from within the program: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise.

Lastly, I'm also adding this article to further guide you in effectively managing your business using QBDT: Help guide for QuickBooks Desktop. It contains topics about advanced accounting, banking, payments, installing, upgrading, activating, and registering QuickBooks.

That should guide you in the right direction. Keep me posted if you need anything else about moving your QBDT or upgrading it to the latest one. I'm always here to help you anytime. Take care and keep safe!
