How to restart payroll after a break in subscription?

Hi there,

Sometimes it's necessary to take a break and I'd be happy to show you how to reactivate your payroll so you can pay your staff.

Here's how to reactivate payroll in QuickBooks:

  1. Go to Settings and select Account and Settings.
  2. From the left menu select Billing & Subscription.
  3. In the Payroll section, select Resubscribed.

Give this a try and if you have questions, I recommend contacting our support team using this link.

I've got the same issue and I cannot find Settings and Account and Settings on my menu.   I have QB Pro 2018.   Can you step me through the process?   PS, I had additional user copy in a separate location, which I sold to another business owner.   I still have my company though.    I also need to regain access the username and pw, which I've lost in the shuffle.  I need to file my 941 report soon.

Welcome to this conversation, @BillHaugh. The steps provided by my peer apply to the Online version of QuickBooks. This is why you're unable to see those options on your end.

In QuickBooks Desktop, we can regain your access by using the Password Reset Tool to update your credentials. Then, let's restore your QuickBooks company file. Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: Automated password reset tool.
  2. In the Select Version drop-down, mark the radio-button for QuickBooks for Windows (All versions), then choose QuickBooks for windows (2019 or below) since you're using QB Pro 2018.
  3. Type in your License number in the field box. If you don’t have it handy, check out the following article to get the information: Find QuickBooks Desktop product and license info.
  4. Enter all necessary information in the field, then click Next to complete the process.
  5. Open QuickBooks and restore the file
