Join nowI just upgraded to 2016, and I am getting nagware on upgrading the software. How can I turn these off? I have read through the application and while searching this support page and nothing shows up.
Thanks for checking in with us, anonymous9.
We notify you in advance through in-product notifications as services for older versions of QuickBooks Desktop are scheduled to be discontinued. For me details about
QuickBooks service discontinuation policy, you can check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information.
If you are tired of seeing the same messages over and over, you can turn it off in the My Preferences page. Although these notices serve as helpful reminders to keep your software up to date.
Here's how:
Then, close QuickBooks for this change to take effect. You may need to repeat this process from time to time, as updates and notifications alter your settings.
Also, you'll see additional popups or Intuit promotions while using QuickBooks. You can click may click "Don't Show Again" option. If you continue to see unwanted notifications after following the above steps, look for this option before closing the popup.
I'm just a click away if you need anything else with running your business in QuickBooks. Have a great day ahead.
Well that did not work. I have the pop up messages selected off.
Whenever I open the application, I get the following message.
"There's a new Quickbooks software update waiting for you.
This update fixes issues that folks like you have told us about."
I do not want to install this update. The details include adding nagware to update the software and end of service. I realize service is ending and I don't care to be reminded of it.
How do I remove this annoying pop up window?
I'm here to assist you, anonymous9.
As shared by colleague, the 2016 version of QuickBooks Desktop is one of those versions that are discontinued. That means, there are services and security updates that are no longer available in this version. That is the reason why you receive pop-ups about the updates.
We can repair your QuickBooks Desktop 2016 since the steps shared above doesn't work. These are the steps to follow:
Let's restart your computer to complete the repair.
Don't hesitate to post again if you have additional questions. Have a wonderful day!
I went through the process of repairing the application. I am still getting the software update pop up box whenever I open it. That is the first thing that shows up.
This is getting very annoying.
Hi, anonymous9.
Since the software that your using isn't the updated version, this will always show up. At this time, we can only follow my colleague's suggestion to click on the X buttons.
However, the only way to remove the pop- up ads, is to install the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop, you'll no longer be notified of the pop-up telling you to update your product.
You can refer to this article about updating and installing the latest version: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
I'll be around if you need anything else. Thanks for visiting us today.
I did not see anything referring to the "X" button. Can you please explain?
Thanks for getting back to us, @anonymous9.
The X button that my colleague is referring to above is for the pop-up ads. Since the ability to remove the update message when opening QuickBooks Desktop (QDBT) for discontinued products is currently unavailable and you don't want to install it, you can select the Install Later option as a workaround.
Just in case, I'll add these articles for future reference:
I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you, so let me know if you have any other issues or concerns. I'm more than happy to help. Have a good one!
OK, so if I install this update, and I have the box unchecked for pop ups, will I still receive notices to upgrade to the newest version once it is installed?
Hello @anonymous9,
Once you've updated and installed the latest version of QuickBooks, you'll no longer be notified with a pop-up telling you to update your product.
If you wish to do so, here's an article you can read to learn more about updating and installing the latest version: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
I've also included our QuickBooks Desktop Help Articles hub in case you needed some easy steps for your How do I tasks.
If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section down below. I'll be always around ready to help.
I know how to update the application. The update is not to the latest version of Quickbooks, it is just to add in the latest version for 2016. As I mentioned, that includes what appears to be nagware to upgrade to the latest version of Quickbooks. If I install that update, can I turn off the pop ups to upgrade to the latest version of Quickbooks?
We're unable to turn off the message about the upgrade, anonymous9.
You're getting it because the version of QuickBooks you have was already discontinued in May of 2019. I think this is part of the marketing strategy and a way of offering users to upgrade, so you can continue using the online services of QuickBooks.
On a personal note, I understand that not all users would like to upgrade. Maybe, at some time in the future or as needed by their businesses. For these reasons, I'll share your feedback with our engineers, so they can consider stopping to send prompt messages about an upgrade or adding an option to disable it in the future.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have other questions about QuickBooks.
Thank you, and I would highly recommend you send this feedback to the engineers. 99.9% of the users of these applications know there is an upgrade available and do not need to be nagged about it. Let them decide when to upgrade or not. It just makes using your products very annoying and degrades the customer experience.
