My computer crashed and I had to reload program. Now I am being asked for a password. I am the administrator and the only one who uses this program. I do not want a password but cannot figure how to make it stop asking me for one.
I set one up when I initially reloaded to get the program to let me proceed. I now wish to do away with the program password.

I just bought Quickbooks 2019, upgrading from a prior version.
I have 12 small companies/people I keep the books for.
I do not communicate with Intuit. I do not store credit cards. I do not store SSNs, since ADP does our payroll.
I don't want passwords.
I have been using QuickBooks for umpteen years without passwords.
It looks like passwords have to be changed every 90 days also.
What a waste of human resources to require this in my situation.
I will use the new QuickBooks for a while, but I will likely return it within 60 days and revert to the older version.
Will also make my thoughts known to the Amazon database.
Thereafter will check out the other small business accounting programs on the market.

I'm here to share some information about password security in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
For the security of your critical data, QBDT requires passwords for data files to meet certain complexity requirements. Passwords required/must be changed every 90 days. QuickBooks prompts you to change your password near the end of the 90 days as well as on the expiration date itself.
You'll be asked to change the password if you have Personally Identifiable Information (PII) entered to your company. This includes the employee and a company social security number, company EIN, company bank details (routing number, account number), or vendor tax ID.
The only way to stop the password protection is to remove this information from the company file. However, this won't be the smart thing to do. If you think the option of removing the password is what you need for your business, I suggest sending this idea straight to our product developers/engineers.

I have spent literal hours wrestling with passwords. When on the phone with support, I had to try to change my PW seven or eight times (try coming up with all those PWs) and it turns out the problem was I had two logins, which no one could discern on the support side.
Now I have three open "companies"--2017, 2018, and 2019. (Because of the mess of going from QBMac to QBOnline to NewQBMac to QBW because my accountant finally insisted, I have my fiscal years separate for the time being.) Now, I can't tell which password is for what. Is the Administrator PW different from Company passwords? No matter what, the app opens demanding a password without specifying which company. All three PWs I had worked, now they don't. I can't afford another day on the phone with hapless support people halfway around the world. UGH.

Absolutely, getting to that point myself. Frankly going to start shopping for other accounting software. Handle one business with very basic transactions. Freaking ridiculous. Thanks you articulated my very same feelings.
I have been using QBooks since the first few releases. I use to like the product, HOWEVER the use of a password should be MY CHOICE .. NOT YOURS. Plain and simple. You provide the tools and we provide the data and the user action.
I have asked about this from the day this stupid option was forced on me and all I was told was take it or leave it. If I didn't have so many years of company history in QBooks I would leave.
I have mentioned to others about this issue and strongly recommend they look around.

Right now, the option to set QuickBooks to automatically log in without your login credentials is unavailable. This is implemented as an extra security layer within your QuickBooks files.
We definitely understand where you and our other business customers are coming from. Having this option available would definitely be a nice plus. I'll send my own feedback on your behalf, so they’ll know a lot of customers wants this feature available soon.

What a waste of money and time. The converter won't convert my PC files correctly, it keeps creating them as Mac files.
The program insists on going online when I do not want my information anywhere but on my PC.
And it is a frustratingly password protected when my PC is already password protected.
Anyone have ideas for non-Intuit money management software that will read old Quicken files?

Let me help you with convert data file into QuickBooks Desktop.
Before you can convert your old Quicken files, you can use the Quicken Converter to upgrade your file first.
Once your file is upgraded to a compatible version of Quicken, you can now start converting using the Conversion Utility in QuickBooks.

Thanks, I figured it out after I posted. Frustrating. Conversion of all the names is ongoing. This is my boss's program and he couldn't figure out all the details.
Question, once I fix all of the errors in the database, if I back it up, can I just send him the backup for him to upload without anymore conversions?

Allow me to chime and provide additional information about backing up and viewing of company file.
After the conversion process, you can back up the company data using a flash drive. Before restoring the file, make sure your boss is using the same QuickBooks version.
A company file can't be opened in another QuickBooks Desktop version. For more information about the limitations, check out this article: Company file compatibility.
If it meets the requirements, let’s go ahead and restore data. Let me provide you the step by step process.

I am right where you are...annoyed at them trying to tell me how to work and then the product does not work properly with Turbo Tax. On the hunt for another solution
what part of STOP TELLING US WHAT WE NEED OR IF IT IS SMART, do you not get? It is our work flow and quickbooks needs to stop getting in the way of productivity.

Not true. Intuit's Turbo Tax does not use passwords - - fortunately - - even though it stores SSNs and all sorts of other confidential information. Somehow the world has not ended for the lack of passwords with that program.

QuickBooks Desktop requires passwords when opening your company file as part of the continuing commitment to protect you and your customers’ information, our most recent QuickBooks Desktop update is designed to secure sensitive data including credit card data and personally identifiable information (PII) such as Social Security Numbers and other employer and employee identification numbers.
That said, all users who have the Credit Card Protection feature on, or whose QuickBooks Desktop file contains sensitive data such as credit card data or PII will be asked to set up a password to verify that the person attempting to access the account is authorized to view such data.

You still don't get it. All this justifications and such. It is up to US, the user, to decide what is necessary and what is not. It is not for you to say and decide.

We don't intend to decide for you when it comes to your account preferences. But the mandatory access setting was put to make sure that no one else can access your file but only you.
Since your company file contains sensitive information, such as your bank information, it is crucial to require a password. The password security is an extra measure to keep your account protected and secured.
I personally understand how frustrating this can be. But don't worry, I'll be passing this along to our engineers so they'd know your sentiments.
