Hello,

Are you clicking on your name or on the person who you want to MAKE the Master Admin?

When you're in the Manage Users section, you need to click the arrow next to the person you want to make the Master Admin and select "Make Master Admin".  (picture below)

I am not the Master Admin, but since our Master Admin is no longer with the company, I need to remove him.  I do not get "delete" or "make Master Admin" options on the drop down list for "Action."  What can I do?  I also need to make myself the Master Admin since I replaced him.

Here is the article on how to transfer the role.

The easiest would be if you still have contact with the old MA, have them login and transfer the role, otherwise you would have to speak with customer service ad have them initiate a Master Admin Transfer Request.

Good day, @JenniferT,

Thanks for joining the conversation. Allow me to share some information about transferring Master Administrator role in QBO.

There are a few things you need to consider before transferring a role. Here are some:

  • Only the Master Administrator access can transfer or delete the MA role.
  • Transferring Master Administrator role is only available for QuickBooks Online Plus or Essentials users.
  • The Master Administrator role doesn't transfer until the invitation is accepted by the new person.

If you're currently not the Master Administrator of the company file, you'll need to have the current Master Administrator make the transfer. Once done, you can now delete his/her access to your QBO account. You can check this article to know more about transferring the MA role: How to transfer the role of Master Administrator?

To delete a user, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Gear icon.

  2. Choose Manage Users.

  3. Find the user you want to delete.
  4. On the Action drop-down, select Delete.
  5. Click Delete again to confirm.

Here's an article to help you with the process: How to add, delete, or change a user's access?

That should get you on the right track, @JenniferT. Should you need further assistance, please let me know by clicking the Reply button below. I'll be more than happy to help you. Have a great day!

I am the accountant as well as the master admin.  When I follow the instructions to change from me to someone listed as the company admin, there is no option to change master admin in the dropdown box.  There is only "view activity" and delete.  I've also somehow found another screen (https://c2.qbo.intuit.com/app/legacyusermgt) where I believe there should be something to click on to change the master admin, and again, the change/assign master admin does not appear.  How do I get this changed?

Thanks for getting back to us, kb bookkeeping.

Since you're the master admin (MA), you should be able to see the option to change the MA user. As an initial troubleshooting step, try logging into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, causing some unusual responses.

Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox or Internet Explorer).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

Once signed in, go back to the Manage Users page to double-check. If it works, return to your default browser and perform a clear cache. Every so often the cache becomes overwhelmed with older data which can potentially cause viewing and performance issues. Clearing it will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with a clean slate. However, if the issue persists, try using other supported browsers.

Just in case, I'm also adding this article for future reference: Change your QuickBooks Online master admin user.

Please let me know in the comment if you have any other issues or concerns. I'm more than happy to assist. Have a great weekend!
