Its such a pain. You have to be in the mood to make the call. I did a chat and was provided a number to some odd technical support that told me my file was corrupt. But they could fix it for some crazy amount of money. It felt like a scam even thought the number was provided in a chat with QB. I did another chat and got assistance and was walked through the upgrade. It all depends on who you get. I was told on this chat that this camps issue is a known one and they are working on it. Its hard to know what to believe but, my QB is upgraded and I don't have to worry about camps for now. Good luck!
I agree! I am so disgusted with them as well. I have using QB for probably 30 years. I have used it for a church, my husbands construction company, an antique store and a museum. I recently went to the online version for the museum and it’s awful. Can’t customize the reports I need like I could with the desktop version. To print labels you have to export to a PDF and then send to a word document. We need to print labels several times a year yet they have no way to print them built into their program. I too have 4 employees and the cost is now ridiculous. I definitely will be looking elsewhere. What happened to being for the small businesses?
You can still use QB Desktop to manage multi company files. Any specific concern?
I have the Accountant Desktop Plus, I need to update to the 2024 and not find a way to do so? Can someone help?
We have a way for you to upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2024, cryan262. I'll guide you through the process.
Before we begin, I'd like to verify your current version of Accountant Desktop Plus. This helps us determine which path we'll take in completing the procedure.
If you're using one of the latest versions (2021, 2022, and 2023), you can easily upgrade by following these steps:
For more details about this, please see this article: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Enterprise.
If your Accountant Desktop Plus version is older than those mentioned above, note that they have a three-year life cycle. You must install the newer version of the one you have, and restore and update your company files in between before upgrading to 2024.
Additionally, QBDT 2024 has better data security, more productivity, and a better view of inventory levels. To know what features are included in the said release and how you can use them to benefit your business, please see this article: What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2024.
Should you need any further assistance upgrading QBDT, don't hesitate to leave a comment below. I'm available here to help you at any time.
Quickbooks has decided to treat their customers of many years with total disregard. These payroll and subscription renewal fees have become absolutely prohibitive for the average small business. In the past the sales model was to provide product enhancements which would encourage you to upgrade product. That coupled with reasonable annual fees for the payroll module is what has led to them being the industry leader of this service with small businesses. A few years ago that changed and minimal if any significant changes were made to the software including not even fixing the dismal slow performance, the poor formatting of the reports , poor formatting of the date column on the register screen.... I could go on. Since no one would willing upgrade to the newest versions they switched to a subscription based model forcing users to upgrade or your software became unusable. About the same time they started implementing additional fees per employee as if it somehow cost more to calculate the payroll for more employees. If you are not providing direct deposit then there is little or no additional expense in calculating the payroll. Intuit knows full well that they have you hostage. They waited for all competitors to essentially drop out of the market then they started ramping up the charges. Finally, no one wants to be a part of your Cloud where your data is easily hacked. Just ask T-Mobile, Delta Dental, MoveIt, Chick-fil-A, and many others about their substantial data breaches. No thanks! Please stop trying to force all users online. Shame on intuit for treating their long term customers this way!
You can use QB Desktop with a non subscription license + a 3rd party payroll app to lower your costs.
I do not think there is any more desktop version without a subscription
It depends on your current license.
Just chiming in to say I agree! Just yesterday I got a flyer in the mail promoting the online version and the ad pops up constantly while using Desktop. I know the only advantage online brings goes to Quickbooks/Inuit, not me, the customer. I will continue to reiterate to them that with 3 employees and no direct deposit, invoicing, inventory tracking, I do NOT need all that I pay for. For 2023, I paid $1,310.12 to use Quickbooks to record payments, pay employees by check and calculate tax payments and forms. In November the cost per employee (another recent add on cost) is now at $19.13 (for 3 people). This fee started in the spring of 2022 and has gone up twice. Is this the tiered system? We are all charged for a payroll subscription and Quickbooks differentiates us by how many employees? How about that payroll sub be tiered by number of employees and whether we use direct deposit? Frustrating but here we are all suffering with it and they know it. It is not something the average user wants to mess around with to avoid disruption.
The "seamless" migration didn't work for me. After 5+ hours on phone with many different "agents" I was told I needed to pay more for a QB accountant to redo my books. These books worked for me for 30 years and I faithfully paid for an upgrade every 3 years.
I want a total refund for an unusable program. Am contacting my credit card comp[any to reverse these Intuit charges,
The migration of what? Did you upgrade from an old version to QB Desktop 2024, or else?
from the old version QB Pro 2021
What didn't work? What exactly is the issue? If you need feedback that can help. But with that said, support is not the best, I would agree. If you have never started over new maybe this is the time. One year I just exported all my customers and imported the, 1500. Then just kept 2 books till old one was not used very much. Nice to have a cleaner faster copy after 30 years. Just my thoughts.
You just need to upgrade data from QB Desktop 2021 US to QB Desktop 2024 US, correct?
Did you encounter any error message?
It did not migrate over correctly because of the way I have it set up. Worked for 30 years but now QB has it set up with no option to print 1099s the way I have it set. I can get the total 1099 payment per contractor but it won't print forms. It is a totally useless program for me. I have contacted my credit card company to issue a dispute on the grounds that I did not get what the agents told me would be no problem.
I have attempted to go to upgrade now (which is upgrade your quickbooks on my version - Desktop Pro 2021) and it takes me directly to a website that is for online only. I do not wish to switch to online, I want upgrade to the lasted Desktop Pro version that is available. I have been looking for somewhere to purchase Desktop Pro 2024 /2023 for the last hour now and everything drives you to Enterprise as the desktop (which we do not need; we are not that big of business) or online; which again, I am not interested in. So please share exactly where we might find an upgrade WITHOUT calling to speak with a representative. We have used QB's for over 20 years and don't need things complicated, we just need to keep working.
This does not work to upgrade.

That is frustrating. I had a similar situation when I wanted to update to Quickbooks 2024 (not Accountant) and was not able to do it on my own. I was given a number to technical support. They told me my files were corrupt and I had to pay to have them repaired. I got this technical support phone number from a Quickbooks agent on a chat. The number seemed to belong to an outside vendor who wanted to charge me big money to fix my files. I was very uncomfortable and got off the call. I called another agent and got the assistance I needed to just do an update from 2023 and 2024. He was very professional and new the difference between an update v. upgrade. I wish I had the chat available to submit to someone because clearly QB has employees giving out false information that could result in wasted money. I was able to update my file with no additional fees/no corrupt files. We pay a lot for horrible customer service and constant sales pitches.
When you call do not say you want an upgrade. You just want to update to the latest version and would like to do a share screen to walk you through the steps. Don't let them deviate from that plan. Unfortunately, I had to call. An agent took over the screen and had me do all the selections.
Done this twice, still not giving me the option to upgrade again.
I've got you covered in upgrading your QuickBooks Desktop, LeMild.
We appreciate you for performing some troubleshooting steps to upgrade your software. But first, let's make sure we update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. Once done, use the Rebuild Data tool to automatically fix minor company file data issues. Here's how:
If QuickBooks doesn't find any problems, press OK. You can keep using your company file if you don't have any data damage. Then, select Rebuild Now if QuickBooks finds an issue with your company file.
If you’re still having data issues after rebuilding your company file, try again. If you still have data issues, use the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix your company file. You can check out this article for more details about fixing data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
Then, try upgrading your QBDT version again by following the steps in this article for further guidance: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Enterprise.
