QuickBooks Pro Desktop being cancelled?

I work for an accounting firm and we have clients that use QB Pro 2024 desktop.  We also manage some clients books utilizing QB Pro 2024 desktop.  We don't want to go to the Online Edition and our clients don't want to go to the Online Edition.  I read somewhere that we were no longer going to be able to use QB Pro for desktop.  Is this true?  We still get new clients that we would like to add a new company to QB utilizing our desktop version.  I want to make sure I can still continue to add new company's and manage their books before I set them up and find out its not going to work anymore.  Can someone give me some insight to this change? Am I going to be forced to convert all of my clients to the online edition (which we don't want to do and may find another bookkeeping software before ever doing that).

QuickBooks Pro Desktop being cancelled?

@SheriP0474  As far as I understand it, only new customers in the US will not be able to purchase Pro and such like after September 2024. Old customers will be able to, but I'm not certain if they're actually going to make 2025 and future versions for Pro.

They will, however, continue selling Enterprise to the US for the foreseeable future, and if you already have a 2024 Pro Desktop, it will continue to function until 2027 per usual. So, you have some breathing room to figure things out before you need to worry about the specter that is QBO.

The real question you should be asking is if you want to pay the prices they will be charging for Desktop. The increased prices aren't just greed; they're trying to exert any pressure they can to push people to QBO.

You can still use QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024, @SheriP0474. I know some information about this and let me share it with you.

You will still be able to use QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024 and create additional company files on your product. The version that we recently discontinue is QuickBooks Desktop 2021.

Additionally, it's essential to note that Intuit has decided to cease selling new subscriptions to the United States subscribers of QBDT Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Mac Plus, and Enhanced Payroll after September 30, 2024.

The Enterprise existing subscribers of these products can still to renew their subscriptions after Sept. 30, 2024. This change will only affect new subscription purchases. Moreover, Enterprise products will not be impacted.

If you purchased our product before prior to Sept. 30, you will be able to continue to renew after that date. To know more about this, read this article: QuickBooks Desktop to Stop Selling to New U.S. Subscribers.

On the other hand, for assistance regarding your QBDT subscription, feel free to have this resource: Manage your QuickBooks Desktop subscriptions and services.

For additional questions about QBDT subscription or any QuickBooks-related concerns, let us know. Keep safe.

@SheriP0474

Company will support QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus/Premier Plus/Mac Plus until 2027 as long as they pay the renewal fees every year. Make sure your clients can log in to CAMPS and find their license code there.

Otherwise, ask them to purchase a new legit license via a partner + they can get a $100 cashback.

RE: We don't want to go to the Online Edition and our clients don't want to go to the Online Edition.

Your and your clients appear to be smart and discerning people.

RE: We still get new clients that we would like to add a new company to QB utilizing our desktop version.

You will be able to add new companies using the copies of QuickBooks that you have.

RE: I want to make sure I can still continue to add new company's and manage their books before I set them up...

However, after this September, they will not be able to purchase QuickBooks 2024 - except Enterprise 24.0. If by 'set them up' you mean have then purchase a license of QuickBooks, they won't be able to do that.

RE: Can someone give me some insight to this change?

Someone at Intuit thinks the Online solution is a replacement for Desktop, and a reasonable upgrade from QuickBooks Desktop. They are of course wrong.

RE: Am I going to be forced to convert all of my clients to the online edition (which we don't want to do and may find another bookkeeping software before ever doing that).

Well, no one can actually force you to upgrade to Online. I'd figure out a way to use Desktop for as long as possible, such as by getting all of your clients on 2024 while they still can.

Buy it here: Intuit - QuickBooks Pro & Premier 2024 purchase page

Maybe Intuit will get the message that Desktop users basically hate QuickBooks Online. And if they refuse to 'upgrade' to it, maybe they'll keep supporting 2024 past its standard 3 year window - or even version it again.

I doubt it, but it might happen if they can't get enough people to use QuickBooks Online. Which in turn, given its dismal state, seems quite plausible.

What is the best way to handle this then? Our clients send us their backup of QB which we then import to our QB Pro Plus 2024 desktop version. We also have clients that don't do their own bookkeeping and we input everything into QB Pro Plus for them. We want to be able to run/submit their 1099's when needed as well as complete and submit their payroll taxes quarterly, etc. We don't want QB to process the payroll, we just want to be able to plug in the numbers and file the quarterly returns in QB. What is the best solution for us going forward? Currently, as mentioned before, we are using QB Pro Plus 2024 desktop. Our plan was to use this to for all of our clients. About 70% of our clients books are being done in-house on an old bookkeeping software that the accounting firm had been using and we planned to move all of them over to QB Pro Plus 2024 Desktop but obviously we don't want to do that if the long-term for this platform is going to be an issue. Should we use an Accountants Edition Desktop version? I need to know my/our best option so that by January 1, 2025 we have all of our clients accounts on a QB Desktop edition and we can enter the beginning balances for the new year and be able to process 1099's and payroll tax filings all in one program.

@SheriP0474

If you don't need to exchange company files with your clients, using QB Desktop Accountant is pointless. They will support QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus/Premier Plus until 2027 as long as you pay the renewal fee. They will have to announce something in 2026 if they are going to discontinue QB Desktop Enterprise.

Thats my fear.  I don't want to do all of this work and put my clients books onto a desktop version that isn't going to be useful in 2027.  Do they not intend to have any Desktop version for accounting firms to be able to use to manage their clients books and tax filings?

Sorry I didn't mean to post my reply to your message.  Not sure how it did that.  And thank you for your assistance.

QuickBooks Pro Desktop being cancelled?

I appreciate you returning to this thread for clarification regarding the QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus discontinuation, Sheri. I can provide additional insights.

Please be aware that this change will not impact existing subscribers, who will continue to receive security updates, product updates, and support after Sept. 30, 2024. If you're an existing one, you can continue to renew your subscription.

Meanwhile, QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus has features like invoicing, expense tracking, and reporting. In contrast, the QuickBooks Desktop Accountant Edition is tailored for accounting professionals, providing tools for managing multiple clients and accountant-specific reports.

On the other hand, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is the ideal desktop version for accounting firms that can manage clients' books and tax filings effectively. It offers vital features for handling complex accounting needs and tax filings.

For more information about the different desktop versions and to find the best option for you, I recommend contacting our Sales Team for further assistance. You can contact them directly at their contact number located at the upper right corner of this article: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

Furthermore, you can utilize this article to learn how to prepare and file your federal 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop.

We're here to lend a hand for any other questions or concerns regarding QuickBooks Desktop Pro discontinuation. Have a good one.
