Please take note that you need to use the same phone number when you set up your account to receive the code.
If you're using a different phone number, you'll need to update it first so you can log in to your account. Once done, you can now turn off the two-step verification.

i already have this feature off, but i still get the 2fa every time.
Therefore i'm not able to turn it off, as it is already off.
What else can be done?

Since it keeps asking for codes, I'd suggest logging in to your QuickBooks Online account twice via a private window. This doesn't use the existing cache files, which makes it a good place to determine if this is a browser-related issue.

If it doesn't ask for a code the second time you log in, I'd recommend clearing the browser's cache. This removes its stored files to ensure the program performs efficiently.
If private browsing doesn't work, I'd recommend using other supported browsers. They'll provide the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks.
In case the issue persists, I'd suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They can securely check your account determine the main cause of this.

I turned off two steps verification it is still on.
I read in 10 different posts to go to :sign and security" and turned it off.
IT IS OFF. for months, I am trying to get rid off this annoying time waster. doesn't matter what I do. Turned it on and off again. read three more gripes about it. Nothing.

Intuit always makes sure to protect your data. One way to guard them is through the verification codes. You may visit our security site: https://security.intuit.com/.
Once the two-step verification is turned on, we create an extra layer of security via email, text, or call to inform and let a user log in safely. Although you turned it off already, we still have multi-factor authentication or MFA that allows you to receive the code by email, text, or call.
The MFA is the default security setting in QuickBooks Online, and we're unable to disable it. Unlike the two-step verification, it won't prompt you to enter a code every time you log in, especially when you're logging in and out from your account using the same browser or device. The MFA may trigger whenever you sign in to an incognito window or after clearing the browser's cache and cookies.

I've now spent 3 hours over two days with chat support trying to disable 2-step identification, which is off on my end, just to be lied to at the end. They had me jump through every hoop possible; different browser, incognito, clear cache, reenable & then disable, wait 5 minutes and try again, transferred to higher support just to go through it all again, and I still receive 2-step requirement every time I time out or log in. After 3 hours of wasted time the chat agent told me that it's supposed to be that way and they can't change it! So apparently they wasted 3 hours of my time for their amusement? Either that or they just lied to me.
Has anyone figured this out? I'd prefer not to go through the major hassle, but I'm going to switch services if I can't turn this off.
i have the same problem =, the incompetent fools can't get their facts straight, the setting is off and is still wastes my freaking time every single time i login
and now they don't even answer the phone losers

I appreciate you joining this conversation. Allow me to jump in and help make sure you can turn off the two-step verification in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
I can see that you already turned off the two-step verification in your QBO settings. However, as mentioned by my colleague Jovychris above, we still have multi-factor authentication or MFA that allows you to receive the code by email, text, or call.
The MFA is a security enhancement on top of the usual password requirement. When you log in, we send you a one-time confirmation code through your email or mobile device. The option to turn it off is currently unavailable. The MFA may trigger whenever you sign in to an incognito window or after clearing the browser's cache and cookies.

at this point of the game to log in to QB online is a nightmare.
step one: log in page, insert user ID
step two: "I am not a robot " page
step three: enter password
step four: two-steps verification (sms or email)
step five: validate.
it takes 2 - 3 minutes. 5 times per day sometimes.
then I am in. but I can't tell the system to NOT GO VIA THESE IDIOTIC STEPS AGAIN AND AGAIN , EVERY TIME I LEAVE THE COMPUTER FOR AN HOUR AND COME BACK. I DO IT SOMETIMES 5 TIMES PER DAY.
this is harassments.
why? why are you wasting my time like that? give me an option to say"trust this computer for the next 30 days" ? eh? or that is too much to ask?

When MFA happens on every login, it looks like 2-factor authentication, and MAYBE the disconnect between you and us is due to nomenclature. So, you say that MFA is an occasional thing, but if 2FA is turned off, then MFA is occurring about 100% of the logins for many of us. How can we get you to recognize our computer and quit hassling us on every login????
Okay, I figured out my problem. I recently set my computer up with VPN. Turning off VPN allowed the cloud to recognize my computer and for the program to load normally.
Turning off VPN is not a permanent solution, but it will do in the meantime. And it is easier to toggle VPN than to fool with MFA.
Intuit, please fix this problem.
Yeah, this is still happening. Got it to stop once, for about a week, and then it's back. 2FA is off. I do NOT receive MFA emails so that's not it. Don't say it is. Being in IT, I'd be exceptionally embarrassed releasing something in this state. Then again, I care about how my customers (and their customers) use the software and how it impacts their lives. Apparently, you don't. This issue is enough to drive me to look for other solutions come start of the new fiscal year. I'm sure others feel the same.
You need to fix this. Here, I'll help:

For those experiencing this -- Please check if you have the browser extension uBlock Origin enabled. If so, temporarily disable it. If that stops the MFA from looping, then that means you will need to unblock the associated QB Online blocked script inside of uBlock Origin.
If you do not wish to disable uBlock Origin, you can extend the duration of time before QB Online times you out to be 3 hours by going to the Gear Icon → Account & Settings → Advanced → Scroll down to Other preferences → Adjust Sign me out if inactive for to be 3 hours instead of the defaulted 1 hour. This won't resolve the issue, but it will decrease the number of instances you are asked to do MFA.
Asking your ISP to switch you to a static IP may help as well.
This is happening with all browsers, and I have used incognito windows and cleared my caches. And 2 step verification is turned off in quickbooks.
All of my users are now wasting valuable time in the morning with this stupid I am not a Robot crap and two step verification. I have cleared 23 caches in browsers and checked everyone to have 2 step verification off. This is coming from Quickbooks whether you choose to admit it or not and it is very annoying and time wasting.

Ok - hopefully I have found a solution for this. Anyway its working for me. QuickBooks is correct that this is a browser setting, HOWEVER, what I found is that QuickBooks is enabling this each time with a cookie they send when you connect. In Chrome (mostly what I use for QuickBooks), go into your chrome settings and search for cookies - disable accepting all cookies from intuit.
I closed my browser and rebooted just to be safe and now I am no longer questioned as to being a robot. I have logged in and out of QuickBooks several times to test my theory and voila, I am robot and send a text each time free.
QuickBooks - check your cookies.....
I imagine for Firefox (my backup when QuickBooks doesn't play nice on Chrome) - the fix is similar, but I didn't track down the cookie setting there yet.
I hope this helps everyone else. I will try to do some screen shots for those not so technical and post later. Now I must use my gained time for work.

Are there any updated directions for turning off two-factor authentication? all the directions say to:
Guess what? THERE IS NO "Sign-in & Security" tab on the left menu once logged into Quickbooks online. I've looked for something similar in Account and settings but only found the ability to change the sign-out option to 3 hours. I really just want two-factor authentication completely gone, I hate it. most professionals have QuickBooks on during the day while they work on other stuff and the constant logging in with two-factor authentication is a real-time suck.
same issue. It's gotten to the point between signing into ProSeries and QBO I'm spending over 1 hour a day just trying to sign in and stay in. It's getting impossible to get any work done. I thought I'd go to my account and turn off 2 factor, but surprise, 2 factor is supposedly off. Go Figure!!
