The new sales tax report is useless for filing in Texas. I need the Total Sales and the Taxable Sales. The old - prior to March - provided just this. Where is it now?

QB online changed the - perfectly fine - report around March. Now I have to dig through other reports to find those 2 numbers. Can I get the old report back, please?

Welcome to the Community, @ostekk.

Are you referring to the new sales tax system (automated)? If so, the option to switch back to the old one is currently unavailable. As a workaround, you may pull up the Sales Tax Liability Report in QuickBooks Online (QBO). This will display your non-taxable and taxable amount.

Here's how to do it:

  1. In QBO, go to the Reports menu at the left pane.
  2. Type Sales Tax Liability Report in the search field and select it to open.
  3. Change the Report period to your preferred date.
  4. Hit Run report to refresh.

I also suggest contacting our support team to check your account if they're able to switch you back to the old sales tax center. Here's how to reach them:

  1. In QBO, click the Help (question mark) icon at the top right.
  2. Select a suggested option, or type a question or topic you need help with.
  3. Tick Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us.

I'm also adding this article that tackles managing and filing your sales tax return in QBO for future reference: File your sales tax return and record tax payment in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you're referring to something else or if you have any other concerns. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. I'll be here to help. Have a good one!

Hi Fritz -

Thanks for the reply. The workaround that you mentioned is how I have been filing my sales taxes for the last 2 months. The problem is that I have to pull 2 different reports, change the reporting period to "Last month" for both, hope that I don't forget to change the time period in between for the second report - and all of that just to get the same numbers that the previous report gave me on one page.
How is this an improvement?

Thanks for the reply,ostekk.

In the Quickbooks Online version, the Sales Tax Liability report only shows a summary of your taxable and non -taxable sales, along with the total sales tax you collected from customers. Also, QuickBooks Online (QBO) will calculate the sales tax based on the customer's address on file. If you are not able to see it, you'll need to run another report.

At this time, there isn't an option to switch back to the old sales tax center after migrating to the new one. This is because all the new QuickBooks Online accounts are now using the new automated sales tax center.

Just in case, I'll add these articles for future reference:

You might also want to learn more about customizing these reports and memorize them to save their customized settings.

Let me know how it goes in the comments below. If you have other sales tax report concerns, I'm just around to help. Take care always.

@ostekk

Explore this AST Filing and Reporting app to integrate with your QBO as a workaround.

Did you ever figure out a workaround?  I chose not to update the ST page for quite awhile and then this month the option to "update later" was no longer available, so I'm having the same issue...I can't get the total gross sales for taxable AND non-taxable sales.  The Sales Tax Liability report doesn't list Non-Taxable sales either...it just displays $0.
