Turn off multi factor verification

Been on the phone 3 times today with Intuit to remove 2 step verification and while it says that it is turned off it still asks for 2 step verification. Tried clearing cache and cookies. Reset Turned on and off 2 step verification. Tried logging in  and out multiple times and nothing works.

I know that this hasn't been easy , @john339

I understand that you want an option to either turn off the verification when you log in or not.

On the other hand, I appreciate your time and effort in reaching out to our Customer Service Support. Let me suggest another way to avoid  two-step verification.

If you're sure you're signing in from a trusted device, you could be asked to verify your identity due to external factors, such as an ad blocker. In this case, either add the *.intuit.com domain to your ad blocker's allow list, or disable your ad blocker specifically for the *.intuit.com domain.

I also suggest reaching out to your IT professional for further assistance.

Here are some resources to check. These will grant you more details further how to verify your account when logging in:

Absurd problem. QuickBooks alternates between forcing a text message verification, then not needing one. I've not changed locations. I'm not using a VPN. I'm not even switching devices, yet now suddenly I'm back with the problem of needing a text verification with *every* login.

I wish Intuit staff would read the history of this thread and see how all of the technical support answers fail to address the basic nature of the question: customers do NOT always want a text message verification.

Yes, multi-factor is Off. No, I don't have time to chat or call in. Why can't I submit a support request via email, if that is the inane solution you're proposing?

Someone at Intuit, please listen and post an actual response about this irritating problem, which adds extra time to just doing my books, forces me to have my phone nearby, and is not conforming to the options menu in the Intuit account settings. ARGH. I can't tell what's worse, the actual problem, or the dismissive non-answers from 'Support' staff who can't be troubled to actually read the thread they are supposedly helping with.>:(

I appreciate you for sharing a suggestion, @john339. This is a great help for all other users who are experiencing the same concern with you.

As mentioned by john339, proceed to My ad Blocker and make the intuit.com an accepted site. You can try this Red L and let us know if this works on your end.

I'm also sharing this link for further knowledge how to verify your account when logging in: Verify your account with multi-factor authentication.

I totally agree with you on this issue.

My 2 step verification is turned off and yet quickbooks still keep asking me.

So yet again another complaint about this company that seems to be getting worse all the time

It does not listen to customers, blames everyone but themselves for faulty software

If they do not improve drastically their software and customer services I will be looking for an alternative software provider

It does not work.

Mine is turned off and yet you still keep asking for the process.

Waste of space

Rubielyn_J has made the first helpful suggestion for this problem. I was experiencing this problem most, but not all, of the time. I do not use Ad Blocker, but I do use Ghostery. I made the qbo logon screen a trusted site, and the majority of the 2-factor requests went away. I still get them a few times a week. It seems to me they occur after an unusually long time without activity on any single function within Intuit. I had to verify by a texted code in order to reply to this thread.

Yes.  I found I had to turn off ad blocker and malware though.

You gave me the idea to search for more.

It worked once so we shall see.

What a pain if you are a one person office.

Thank you both:)

So i went to sign in and security and it's already turned off. And yet, EVERY SINGLE TIME i sign in (multiple times a day since quickbooks boots me out for no good reason), it makes me get a text verification and enter the code. Every. Time. Please make it stop.

I had same issue. In my case all I had to do was go to my ad blocker app and add ( app.qbo.intuit.com ) as a trusted site and my head ache was gone. The ad blocker is on the computer not in quickbooks.

Hello there, @jessbbg. Thanks for reaching out to us.

Due to some factors, including the computer, network, or browser you use to sign in to Intuit products, you could be required to complete two-step verification even if it's already disabled.

I agree with john339 that a workaround to avoid receiving the two-step verification when logging into your account is to add (app.qbo.intuit.com) as a trusted site to your browsers. Adding Intuit as a trusted site prevents your browser from potentially blocking site content.

To make Intuit's URL a trusted site in your browser, follow these steps:

1. Add Intuit: Safari

  • Open Safari and type payroll.intuit.com into the address bar.
  • Click Enter.
  • Select Bookmarks, then Add Bookmark.
  • Choose Top Sites from the drop-down menu under Add this page.
  • Select Add.

2. Add Intuit: Google Chrome

  • Choose Settings from Customize, then manage the Google Chrome menu.
  • In the left pane, select Privacy and security, then click Site Settings.
  • Choose Cookies and site data.
  • Select Add in the Allow section.
  • Enter *intuit.com and click Add to save.

Thanks for joining this thread, @CLJ31. Let me chime in and provide further details about the two-step verification.

As mentioned by my peer, you could be asked to pass two-step verification due to several factors even if it's already turned off. If we can't establish high confidence or trust based on these aspects, you may be asked to verify your identity to make sure your account is not compromised.

Alternatively, add (app.qbo.intuit.com) as a trusted site to your browsers.

If issue persists, I suggest contacting our support team directly. They have the tools to check your account in a safe environment. This way, they can further investigate and provide other solution.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select the Help (?) menu.
  3. Choose the Assistant tab.
  4. Click the Talk to a human option.
  5. Select Get help from a human.
  6. Click either Chat with us or Have us call you button.

I've added these articles to help you manage your account in QuickBooks:

Keep me posted if you have other concerns with the two-step verification process. I'll be around to lend a helping hand. Take care!

Your guidance does not work. When I get to the Sign In and security page and then try to turn off the 2FA, it re-routes me to a page that just explains what 2FA is. It does not let me turn it off.

Hi Abiguail/ QBO expert,

Thanks for trying to help us out but your suggestion does not work for everybody. Here are my advices and comments:

1) please email your customers and inform them about the OPTION of a new feature such as 2FA instead of forcing its implementation on everybody and then not even have a way to resolve it. As I mentioned in another post, the turn off switch does NOT work. It just re-routes me to a window that explains the benefits of 2FA.

2) Not every company has an IT dept. I use G Suite and QBO because they are easy to deal it generally, and I manage the IT myself as the founder. Large companies with an established IT dept are probably using SAP instead of QBO.

The instructions for turning off 2-step verification don't work. "Off" is grayed out. I am a sole proprietor who only accesses QB from a desktop PC in my own home. I have ZERO security concerns. I DON'T NEED OR WANT THIS FEATURE. IT ANNOYS THE HELL OUT OF ME AND MAKES ME WANT TO SWITCH PROVIDERS. PLEASE PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION FOR TURNING THIS OFF THAT ACTUALLY WORKS.

Had same issue found my ad blocker or pop up blockers was the issue. You need to mark Quickbooks as a trusted or acceptable site in the blockers that you can find by clicking the puzzle icon at top right of your screen. If you click the gear icon on those sites it will give you a way to install the trusted site in this case it is app.qbo.intuit.com Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion, John339. But it sounds like you are using a Mac. I use Windows 11. Any Windows users out there have any suggestions? I would appreciate it. Thanks again.

Hello there, @mwwolfmn.

Let's add the Intuit (*.intuit.com) domain as a trusted site in your Windows browser to help fix your two-step verification concern in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and manage your account accordingly.

I also agree with John339 that making the Intuit domain an accepted site would help fix your issue with two-step verification in QBO. Doing so will prevent your browser from potentially blocking Intuit's site content. To do this using a Windows browser like Google, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Customize and control Google Chrome ⋮ ) icon and choose Settings.
  2. In the left pane, select Privacy and security and then Site Settings.
  3. Select Cookies and site data.
  4. In the Allow section, select Add.
  5. Enter *intuit.com, then select Add to save.

In case you're using other browsers, like Microsoft Edge, please see this article for the complete guide: Add Intuit as a trusted site.

Also, you may want to check out one of our Help pages as your reference to guide you in managing your QuickBooks Online account: QuickBooks Account Management. It includes topics about updating billing info and resetting passwords, to name a few.

Please feel free to leave a comment below if you have other account management and two-step verification concerns in QBO. I'm always ready to help. Take care, @mwwolfmn.

I would also like this to not be an automatic option.  I have my password, my finger print, and my email address, I answer all of the stupid challenge questions - just to access my account.  But no, I can't get in, because I don't have my phone with me and thus it cannot send me a text to verify.  I enter all of my personal information in but for some reason It is not correct - even though it is correct.  Why do I have to do this anyway, I just want to access my business account so that I can process payments, which I cannot do.  And then it asked me to "please rate your experience using quickbooks".  Lol, enough already, if you have a problem with security please don't put it on me.  Perhaps you need to deal with it on your end.  You would think that my super complicated password would be enough.  Or at least give me the option of sending an email confirmation rather than just to my phone.  It is dead and I don't have a charger on me right now.  Really, enough already.
