How many years of data do you keep in your QBO? > 20 years?
Hi @Mich_S
Thank you very much for your response!!!
I have followed your instructions and the last thing that I received was a message : STEP 3 Request your data: 'Thanks for your request! We'll email you shortly once your data is ready.' I am waiting but that was 12 hours ago. I'm concerned that something didn't go right because I waited a long time when I was moving to the online version from desktop a year ago and it turned out that something did go wrong and my data was lost for almost 2 weeks! I had to work with 3 different QB reps before anyone could fix the issue.
Is there a way to check on this? I really need to get back up and running with the numbers of my business! Thank you.

I've gone an entire year without QB support so this is the first I've learned of how to access support!
I have now waited a full 5 days and STILL DON'T have any sign of my data being exported.
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO CAN HELP?
I had the same problem when switching to the online version- my data was lost for almost 2 weeks and now I'm switching back to the desktop version and so far my data seems to be lost again!
I’m in the same boat as you, now trying to go back to my original 2018 and no luck at all, can’t even get my backup to work, flustrating
Hi jtban!
It could be that the backup file is damaged which is why you're having issues accessing it. Let me help you.
You'll want to install and run the QuickBooks File Doctor. This scans the file and fixes any errors. Follow these steps:
You can also review this article for more details on how to use the tool: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.
I added this link if you need more help in restoring your backup file: Restore your file.

Afaik, the converter tool doesn't support the outdated QB Desktop version. You can install the trial license for QB Desktop 2021 to make sure. You can still buy the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 later.
Hello
I saw your article about exporting Online data to QB desktop version. I have to do this to fix many issues in his Online file that the Online version will not let me fix. My question is once I make all these corrections, can I covert the file back to the Online version so my client will still have access to his books after they are fixed?
What fixes can't you make in QBO?
Good morning, @NHoffmann.
Thanks for chiming in on this thread.
You can convert the file as often as you'd like. Learn more about converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online through this article.
However, some details don't move over to QuickBooks Online. Here's a guide that lists all the information that moves and doesn't move to your QuickBooks Online from QuickBooks Desktop.
Feel free to come back if you have any other questions about converting your file. I'm only a reply away. Have a great day!
Would doing this delete the QB online or does it create a copy?
Thanks for joining the thread, @YKan.
I can share some insights about this conversion question you have.
Converting or migrating your data will not delete any of your existing accounts, in your case, QuickBooks Online. Only the company file information is copied from one version to another, but it will not cancel any subscription, create a copy or delete data. You may keep using the old file.

Intuit makes it as difficult as possible because they want you to stay in QBO. The problem with that: They have not invested enough development resources to make QBO as effective as the Desktop version.
Even with that, they have begun to force the desktop version to become a recurring monthly fee too. That gives them a more reliable revenue stream vs those who smartly purchase Desktop only every 2 years, which is when they cut-off services such as payroll etc. In an attempt to make it unusable.
Microsoft and others do the same thing, so this is just another example of that.
I want to comment on this. I have one email address for my firm QBO Plus subscription and a QBO Accountant. I am trying to import the data from QBO plus to Accountant so I can use the free account and cancel the subscription. I was able to import the data to Desktop, however, getting the data back to QBO Accountant is impossible. What can I do?
Utilize a migration tool or purchase a 3d party conversion service.

Hi there. @papogator24. I'll guide you on how to get your data back to your QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA) account.
You can export and import the data in one place. Here's how:

I did use the QB migration tool.
When I moved it back into QBO trying to import into the free QBO Accountant which I already had an account but I did have a separate account for the same company I have. They both use the same email. The data doesn't show up in the QBO Accountant. once I completed the transfer, I go into the reports to see if the import was complete and it isn't.
I've done this 5 times and each time has been a fail. Do I need to export and then cancel the subscription to hopefully kick out that same company so when I import, I can get the data to go in QBO Accountant instead?

I'm here to provide you with some information about importing your data so you'll be guided on what to do, papogator24.
Moving your data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA) requires only a few steps so you'll have everything in one place. There's no need to cancel your subscription for the data to go to your QBOA account. You'll just have to follow the detailed steps for the import to be successful. I've highlighted again the steps below for your convenience:
Once done, review the imported data by following the steps below:
Then, go to the different menus in the Your Books section and check everything. Furthermore, you may notice how your books appear when moving your data to QuickBooks Online (QBO). Reach out to us if you have any concerns about importing your data. We're always right here to assist you further.
I did everything you guys mentioned and it is still not importing from Desktop to QBOA. I'm frustrated. I have a feeling that I do need to cancel my subscription (just paid my monthly already) because it is not showing up in my QBOA books that information was imported.
Afaik, there is no direct conversion method from QBD to QBO Accountant. That's why you need to use a migration tool or buy a third party conversion service as I mentioned earlier.
I appreciate you following my colleagues suggestions above, @papogator24. I’ll help you figure out what's causing this issue and ensure you’re able to import data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
I would like to take a look at your account and figure out what’s going on. However, we’re unable to do that in public space. I can also see that you used the QB migration tool and the issue persists.
I’d recommend reaching out to our Support Team. From there, they can pull up your account and investigate why you’re unable to migrate.

Do you have any other concerns regarding the data or other functions in QuickBooks? Let me know and I'll ensure to address them timely.
Did you loose much information on the export? I lost info on the switch to online version. Do you know if they still support desktop version? Thank you
Hi there, cscoe.
I can help you add missing data to QuickBooks Online. If you use an older version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) or you don't have access to QBDT, install a trial version of QuickBooks 2021 and open your company file.
Then, follow the steps to import your company file to QuickBooks Online. Some data won't export, that's why you have to manually enter them into the online version.
To learn what data aren't imported, you can browse this article: Find out how your books will move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
