You may utilize a 3rd party migration tool or purchase a 3rd party migration service. For your case, I would recommend to transfer the account out of your wholesale billing to another email address as the Primary Admin. Downgrade to QBO Simple Start, cancel it and resubscribe it for one month annually.
I clicked on the QuickBooks Desktop Migration tool. It says enter the path to downloaded QBXML file: what do I enter into the browse?
Hi there, @traceytucker1.
Welcome to the Community. I can provide additional guidance on how to use the QuickBooks Migration tool.
You need to enter the folder location of the downloaded QBXML file. If don't have it, I recommend closing the application first and go back to your QuickBooks Online account to download the needed file. Here's the link: https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt.
Click the Continue option to choose which data you want to export into the Desktop version (see screenshot below).
After downloading the QBXML file, please follow the remaining steps found on this page (scroll down to Step 3, then follow the instruction in number 11): Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.
For more information about the tool, like the limitations, I recommend the following article: QuickBooks Desktop Migration Tool FAQs.
Keep me posted if you have additional questions about the conversion process in QuickBooks. Have a great day.
Hi! I am trying to export my data from QBO but I am running into an issue. I used the exportqbodatatoqbdt, received the export file and used the Data Migration Tool to import it to QBD. The import says it was successful, but I am missing a lot of records. None of my bank balances or Accounts Receivable tie to the correct balances, and I have a large amount of transactions "stuck" in undeposited funds (as if the customer payments were recorded but never deposited). So, in some cases, I am missing the payment all together and in other I am missing the deposit.
My first call to QBO support transferred me to QB Desktop support, and they suggest that the export file is missing records. When I call QBO support (three times), they seem unfamiliar with exporting and suggested I manually rebuild the file. Since the transactions in question go back to 2017, you can imagine that I'm not excited about rebuilding these by hand.
Are there any suggestions for (1) what may have gone wrong in the export (or import) or (2) how to reach someone at QBO with experience in exporting?
Great work in converting your Online data files to Desktop, @AutumnS.
Please keep in mind that when converting between QuickBooks versions, some transactions may not be moved due to export limitations. To confirm that your data is successfully converted, I suggest running 2 reports the Balance Sheet and Profit Loss reports. You'll need to run these reports on an Accrual basis and for All Dates to ensure the numbers match in both programs.
You may refer to this article to complete the process. Go directly to Step 4: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.
Since you want to reach someone at QBO, you can contact them again to help this fix.
I also suggest visiting the Get QuickBooks Desktop user guides article. This will help provide additional guidance on how you can navigate the desktop version.

@Maybelle_S - Thanks very much for your quick reply. Yes, I've checked all the export limitations-- I do not think these are the problem. We aren't hitting list limits, field limits, etc. We are missing records and seeing unrecorded deposits. I've tried importing the data 3 times now using the Desktop Migration Tool all with the same issues.
Is there a way to escalate my question to a specialist who is familiar with exporting from QBO?
Thank you.
Thanks for coming back for more support, @AutumnS. I appreciate you for trying the steps shared by my colleague.
Since the issues persist even after trying it out with the Desktop Migration tool, I'd recommend you contact our Customer Care team. They have the right tool to help check what's causing this issue and resolve it.
They can also submit a request to investigate this issue further whenever necessary.

Is it me or is QB online terrible? I have had nothing but problems. Been on a chat or phone with them every day over issues with especially payroll. If I make an error, I am not allowed to fix it, they have to do it. Not very flexible. I am looking to go to desktop so I can have some control over my input.
Does this delete the data from online? I want to continue to use online, but I need to make a desktop backup for the IRS.

The migration process does not cancel your QB Online account.

I'll share the steps on how you can convert your QuickBooks Online (QBO) file back to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Here's what you're going to do.
Please refer to this article for the detailed instructions: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.
Once migration is complete, verify your info if they are correct. After that, cancel your QBO plan to avoid invalid charges on your account. See this article for the steps: Cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription.

Will this work with converting back to QB desktop 2019?
The conversion tool only supports QBD 2020 or later versions. You can still purchase a one time license of QBD 2020 at a lower price than 2021.
This doesn't work any more. They have taken that option away. The Data Migration Tool is non-existant. They have made it harder to do the migration as far as I can see. Has anybody else been successful within the last week?
Let's make sure that we get this sorted out, carla1957.
Can you tell us what happens when you tried to export your data from QuickBooks Online to the Desktop version? I tried to export the data in my own QBO account and I can still see the Download tool.
Make sure to use any of these supported browsers since Internet Explorer and older versions of Safari are no longer supported:
If you can't still see it, I'd recommend reaching out to our phone or chat support teams. They can take a closer look at this and help you migrate your date from QBO to Desktop.
Here's how:

We replied your PM.
@Fiat Lux - ASIA Could you please PM me to recommend 3rd party migration tools? We are trying to convert a multi currency company file from QBO to QBDT Enterprise. I have tried the QBO export and migration tools to QBDT, but the variance is way to much too fix manually. Thank you. - Eva
@carla1957 I have just exported QBO data couple days ago; It works now. FYI, I am Windows system user, so not sure if it works with MAC. Please follow the instruction on the below article. When open the QBO for export, use only Google Chrome or Microsoft edge browser, and keep the QBDT open as well.
Still, with QBO export, do expect to see some missing transactions. So far, I have two vendor accounts' transactions are missing, and anything related to these two vendor accounts are also not converted to QBDT; I am reviewing my financial for the first two years, and still have 4 more years to go. I am looking for other solutions for this migration. This is really a painful experience. No QBO anymore!
The conversion tool didn't work well with QBO data with multi currency transactions. We had to migrate our clients data from QBO account with multi currency to a new QBO account with single currency prior to converting it to QBD. Contact us in private for assistance.
Hi.
I have used QB desktop for 20+ years and last year switched to the online version- which I quickly learned was a HUGE mistake so now I have just purchased the new QB desktop and am trying to export my data from the online version but it is telling me that my files are 'too big to export'.
How to I move ALL of my companies data over to desktop?
I'm here to ensure you're able to move all of your company data to QuickBooks Desktop, @LAAND.
There are limitations when you convert from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.
Kindly take note of these things before you convert:
To officially start the conversion, if you haven't, download and install QBDT on your computer. Also, you can download the QBDT File Restoration Tool if you don't have a license to QBDT. Then, access your QBDT company. Go to the File menu and click on Close Company.
While you complete the rest of the process, you can leave QBDT in the meantime.
For more information in completing the conversion, feel free to go through steps 2 to 6 in this article: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.
