Why doesn't my password work when I'm trying to edit an invoice? The date is earlier than a closing date and I'm prompted to enter a password, but it won't accept it.

Hello there, johnt2.

Editing an invoice the date before the closing date normally works. As long as the password we entered is correct, it'll go through. The system requires entering the password you've used when closing the book, not the one when we signed the QuickBooks account.

If verified that the password is correctly entered, we can start refreshing your browser by clicking the Reload icon. Then, log in to a private window. It helps the software to function well and load it immediately. Here's how:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

From the incognito window, you can edit the invoice and be able to save the changes. If everything works fine, let's go back to your original browser and clear the cache. You can also use other compatible browsers in QBO.

Thanks, well, here may be the issue. I'm using the accountant version, as the subscription is actually under someone else's company. They closed the books, so it was probably their password that needs to be entered, even though I'm logging in under my user ID? It's unbelievable to me that Intuit has no chat or call function available until tomorrow!

Yes, you’re correct johnt2,

The password used when they closed their books should be the password you’re going to enter so you can modify the transaction.
