Bank Connection Issues

I am having issues with QBO and my bank staying connected. Basically I establish the connection by manually inputting the user name and pwd, which results in a working connection and all transactions being downloaded. I refresh periodically and it works fine. I log out of QBO and the next morning I get the email notifying me that QBO and my accounts were disconnected. I then check my pwd at my bank and it does not work. Same for QBO of course. So then I have to create a new pwd.......login to the bank and then reconnect QBO. And like ground hog day, I have to do it all over again the next day.

The bank cannot seem to find anything on their end and QBO states the same. Quite perplexing.

Bank Connection Issues

I know this hasn't been an easy process for you, MistyMountain.

Let me make it up to you by making sure this banking issue gets investigated.

Here are some of the possible reasons that you'll need to connect your bank every day:

  • The bank is performing system maintenance.
  • There are notifications on your bank’s website that need your attention.

Before proceeding, may I know the name of your bank? This way, we can verify if there is an open investigation related.

To help you resolve this, I'd suggest making sure you're using the bank website's URL. This helps you permanently connect your account to QuickBooks. Let me guide you how:

  1. Go to Banking from the left menu.
  2. Select Add account.
  3. On your bank website's screen, copy the URL and then paste it into the Enter your bank name or URL search box.
  4. Choose the bank emblem.
  5. Manually enter your User ID and Password for the financial institution website.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Complete the extra security verification and select Connect.
  8. Select the Account type drop-down menu to your bank account.
  9. Click Connect.

Then, manually update your bank account. This refreshes the bank connection within the program.

Lastly, I'd recommend signing in to your bank's website. Then, check your account page for messages or alerts. Once reviewed, manually update the account again. If you make changes on the website, update your bank account sign-in information in the system. For more details, please see this article: What To Do If Bank Transactions Won't Download

If none of these fixes the problem, I'd suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They're equipped with tools to check the cause. It'll also allow them to submit a ticket to our engineering team to alert them about the issue if necessary.

Once everything is all set, I encourage browsing this article that'll help you in reviewing your downloaded bank and credit card transactions. This ensures you put them in the correct accounts: Categorize and Match Online Bank Data.

Please keep us posted on your progress in getting this issue resolved, MistyMountain. It's my priority to ensure your bank will be connected permanently in QuickBooks.

@MistyMountain

Does your bank provide a portal with 2FA security protocol?

No it is not 2FA. Thanks for asking though!!

Bank Connection Issues

I have to reconnect my bank accounts every single day for every single client I work for.

I do my banking at Chase Bank.

What gives?

I thought it was every 90 days. It's a real pain to have to do this. Is anyone else experiencing this having to be done every day? Thanks!

Bank Connection Issues

Hi there, @jillianb.

I understand the need to resolve the recurring issue you're experiencing with your Chase Bank accounts disconnecting.  I can provide you with some troubleshooting steps so you can reconnect your bank in QuickBooks Online (QBO) as soon as possible.

I've checked to be sure, and it shows the connection Chase should be working normally. Before we start, I'd like to know if you encounter a specific error message. That way, we can check if there's an ongoing issue that keeps you from getting disconnected and unable to reconnect your bank.

In the meantime to check if this is a browser-related issue, let's open your QuickBooks Online through an incognito/private browser. Your browsing history can be one of the possible reasons you have problems.

To open it, press these shortcut keys:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox)
  • Control + Option + P (Safari)
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Microsoft Edge)

If you're having trouble with private browsing, you might want to consider using a different browser. This will help ensure you have the most secure and optimal experience when using QuickBooks.

On the other hand, I'm adding this material for more hints while reviewing your downloaded bank and credit card transactions in our system: Categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

You can also reconcile your accounts regularly to compare each transaction with the ones entered into QuickBooks and your statements

Count on me if you need further help with your banking connection. Drop a comment below. I'm just a few clicks away to help you once more.

@jillianb

You can use MT Online or one of the converter tools (e.g csv2qbo @ $60 one time license) as a workaround.
