Thank you for posting in the Community, @arielson.

The supported file when importing bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop is (.qbo) file.

To download web connect files, here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Go to the File menu at the top.
  2. Choose Utilities, then Import.
  3. Select Web Connect Files
  4. Locate the QBO file you saved, then Open.
  5. When prompted to Select Bank Account, choose Use an existing QuickBooks account if the account you are importing the transactions into is already set up in QuickBooks or Create a new QuickBooks account if the account you are importing the transactions into is not yet in QuickBooks.
  6. Hit Continue and OK

Once done, go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions. For additional information on this process, I recommend the following article: Import web connect (.qbo) files.

Just in case, I'll add these articles for future reference:

There is a converter I just found from Propersoft.com...CSVtoQBO.  I just purchased the one converter, but there are others.

I have nothing to gain from this but it saved me a ton of time.  The serve and followup has been great but it was truly seamless and I did not need any help.

This converts a csv bank transaction list to a QBO file to import though Web connect.

Am I missing something here? It says solved, but I don't think so.

Looking to download a CSV file (not a web connect file) into brand new copy of QuickBooks Pro 2020.  Credit Card Company does not offer a QBO download, does not offer Web Connect, is not a banking institution in the feed list.   Only option is CSV.

The instructions listed here do not address CSV import for banking.  The only option listed here is to go out and purchase another software to make the software my customer just purchased work properly.

Hey there, @JPC Ventures.

Thanks for following the thread. I'm happy to elaborate on how to import using a CSV file.

Since you're trying to import a CSV file from your bank, a good thing to note is QuickBooks can't import transactions. If you take a look at our guide from the tool kit mentioned by my colleague above, it states:

  • Import from Excel and CSV can only import lists. Transactions cannot be imported using this method. Importing from Excel and CSV uses field mapping between QuickBooks and the import file to identify what data goes where in a QuickBooks list record. In QuickBooks, this import function is accessed by clicking File > Utilities > Import Excel Files. Do not confuse importing from Excel and CSV with IIF import. Although IIF import files are often created using a spreadsheet program like Excel, IIF files use a completely different format.

With that being said, the only option you would have to import the transactions in QuickBooks would be to use a third party or manually enter them.

I understand how importing the CSV file in QuickBooks would be beneficial for you and your business. I have personally submitted a feedback request to our product development team, so this can be considered in a future update. Please know you can follow our latest happenings and updates using our Blog Site

Understood.  I agree with what others have said here.  A plug in is available for QBO, SO...it should be easy to make it available for desktop.  I hope they add it.

Thank You.

Which one?  When I looked into Money Thumb and Proper Soft they both came up as scams?  Who does QB recommend?

@aptax

What do you mean with scam? Many of our clients have been using MT. Utilize the trial version to make sure.

Here is what I use as Merril Lynch does not export to web connect files.

ProperSoft and this is cheap and the people were super helpful.

I use it every month for them.

Good luck:)

I still use propersoft, inexpensive, good support, and it works great.

Merrill Lynch does not do QuickBooks file, so this easily transfers CSV.

I do not know if it works with outdated QuickBooks, but it may be worth a try.

Good luck all:)
