You can consider manually editing the CSV file of your bank transactions base on the following required columns so you can upload it successfully. You can read through this article to learn more: Import Bank Transactions using Excel CSV Files.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

I have checked all columns headers, and i have selected a single line of bank transactions with absolutely no special characters, still the same message.

I have tried all formats of numbers, dates, langage.

I am using Quickbooks online with my macbook. Maybe the csv conversion file is not correct. One of the articles you sent mentioned a "windows csv file", but it does not appear in the list of files I can use from my Excel on Mac version. Anyway i have tried all csv and txt files i could, none is working.

What can I do? Try from a PC?

Why can't we use Excel files like for all other imports in Quickbooks? Is there a plan to authorize Excel files for bank transactions soon?

Right now, the recommended method when importing bank transactions for Mac users is saving the file as Windows CSV. That may be the reason you're still getting an error after trying all the conversion files. Also, we're unable to confirm if there's a plan to authorize Excel files for bank transactions using a Mac computer. 

 

Yes, your suggestion can help you get rid of the error. First, you can use a PC to save your file as Windows CSV. That way, you'll be able to manually upload the transactions to the software. 

 

Second, you can also use the other supported file types. These are QuickBooks Online (QBO) and Quicken (QFX). Just go back to your bank's website if they support these file types. 

 

You can always visit this website: Fix Bank Upload Errors In QBO. It lists all the errors when importing bank transactions to QuickBooks and the steps on how to resolve them. 

 

Once imported, let's go to the For Review tab to assign and categorize your bank transactions. Also, you can match them to the existing entries in the system. Utilize the trial version of this converter app to isolate the issue. If the same error persists, there is something wrong with the CSV file.

Did anyone ever figure out what to do? I am having this same issue with a qbo file from our bank. All of the information is there but I am getting the error: Your file does not contain the three required columns: transaction date, memo and amount. Intuit support is going to be another 48 hours but I need this file now. This is frustrating since it worked fine up until now.

I hear your sentiments, @Lindamcj. I'll share some troubleshooting steps to help you import your bank transactions into QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

Since it's been working fine since then, I suggest importing your bank transaction through a private/incognito window. The private window will not save any history, making it a good place to identify browser problems. To save you time, use either of these keyboard shortcuts:

 

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N  
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

 

If you're able to import your bank transactions using a private browser, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Clearing the cache or cookies is the best way to get a clean slate for your browser. Otherwise, using other supported browsers can be a good alternative too.

 

If the issue persists, I'd suggest contacting our Technical Support Team. They have the tools to look into your account securely and can do further investigation into this behavior.

Thank you for that information. However, that did not help. I am getting the same error message. I already did a chat with Quickbooks and called. Now, I have to wait 48 hours to get an engineer. Still seems like a long time to wait and I was denied any escalation since that is not a thing apparently with support...

Does your bank provide file formats other than *.qbo? e.g. csv, pdf

No, this particular account only does qbo file. I do not have an option of selecting a different file to download.

UPDATE: I was able to figure it out. I went back to my downloads folder and used that copy rather than the one I saved as onto the desktop. It seems that the file changed when I saved it to the desktop instead of either uploading from the downloads file or dragging that file from the downloads folder to the desktop. It imported successfully. I still did not get a call back from Quickbooks engineers for the case I have open. That part is super frustrating.
