American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

Hi there, FMCMTG.

Allow me to provide details about connecting American Express to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

We can bring your transactions by manually uploading data in QBDT. Before doing so, create a backup copy of your company file to ensure you have the original data. You can restore it in case of accidental loss or damage.

Here's how to import:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Click on Utilities and then select Import.
  3. Choose the type of data you want to import (e.g. customers, vendors, items, etc.).
  4. Follow the prompts to select the file you want to import.
  5. Map the fields in your file to the corresponding fields in QuickBooks Desktop.
  6. Click on Import to begin the data import process.

Once done, you can now categorize your downloaded bank transactions. This way, you can keep your financial data accurate and updated. Please see this article for the complete guide: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, I would encourage you to reconcile your accounts every month. This helps monitor your income and expense transactions and detect any possible errors accordingly. For the step-by-step guide, you can check out this article: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep your post coming if you have other banking concerns. I'm always here to help. Have a great day!

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

Hi

We tried getting the Amex set up and have change to the American Express QBDT but when we go to bank feeds and try to get the download it says it must be in side by side mode.  There is only Advanced or Express mode and when we change to either one of those options it just says fetching information.  We are using desktop pro. How do we get this resolved?

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

Hello there. Welcome to the Community.

Let's refresh your connection for Express Web Connect online banking in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) so you'll successfully download your latest transactions.

The updated American Express Card - QBDT connection is set up using Express Web Connect. Based on your description, I can tell that you'll only need to refresh your connection to download your transactions. But before doing so, please make sure to update QuickBooks to the latest release and create a backup of your company file.

Whenever to ready to refresh your connection, perform the following steps below:

  1. From Banking, go to Bank Feeds.
  2. Select Bank Feeds Center.
  3. Choose your bank account under the Bank Accounts section.
  4. Click the Refresh account(s) icon.

Once your transactions are downloaded, you'll have to review and categorize them to keep your financial data accurate.

Also, I encourage you to reconcile your accounts in QBDT regularly (every month). This helps monitor your income and expense transactions and detect possible errors accordingly. You may want to check out this article as your reference to guide you in doing and fixing reconciliations in QBDT: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

I'm all ears if you have other banking concerns or questions about managing transactions in QBDT. You can drop a comment below, and I'll gladly help. Take care always.

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

I have tried twice now to reset up the Bank Feeds on my Amex account and I can download transactions once, but on any other attempt I keep getting this an error message...that says

"Something unexpected happened and we can't connect to American Express Card (QBDT), Try again in a few hours (7500)"

How do I fix this?

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

Thank you for replying Rea_M but unfortunately that did not work and the picture you show of the account information screen is much different then the one I see.  When we go into bank feeds and try to connect to American Express the error we receive is:

"This FI is set up using Express Web connect. You can't download transactions for this FI using registered mode. Please switch to side-by-side mode to download transactions."  As I mentioned before there is no side by side option. How do we get this fixed so we can continue to download with American Express?

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

Hello there,

I want to ensure your issue with connecting your AMEX account and downloading its transactions gets resolved so you can get back to working order.

Let's update your Financial Institutions Directory (FiDir) in QuickBooks Desktop. This will help fix your issue and make sure you have the latest info from your financial institution.

To begin with, let's create a backup copy of your QuickBooks company file and update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Once done, let's update the FiDir. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu, then select Bank Feeds.
  2. Select Bank Feeds Center.
  3. Click the Refresh account(s) icon or choose Sync all for this bank from the dropdown.

If you get the same result, you'll have to manually update each file location for each QuickBooks version. To do so, you can check out this article for the detailed steps and information: Update the Financial Institutions Directory in QuickBooks Desktop.

Just in case you want to learn how to categorize and match your bank transactions, you can check out this article for more guidance: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Feel free to come back to this post if you have other concerns or follow-up questions about connecting bank accounts. I'll be right here to provide further assistance.

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

No one Is still answering the question. Before this update, all cards in the account had their transactions downloaded. After this update, only the primary card transactions are being downloaded. Can anyone figure it out?

Why are these conversions so difficult? Same thing with Chase Bank now. Never worked the same

Thanks for joining the conversation, @jn5300.

I understand how time-consuming it is to go back and forth downloading your transactions. If you're unable to connect your accounts in QuickBooks, what you can do is reach out to your bank and check for any maintenance updates or request to establish a connection with QuickBooks. If everything is good from your bank's side, make sure to select the correct bank name when connecting the account.

If the same thing happens even after appropriate troubleshooting, I suggest having a manual import of downloaded bank transactions using Web Connect. First, download your Web Connect file directly from your bank, not from inside QuickBooks. Make sure the file you download from your bank is a .qbo file, the only type Web Connect can read.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your bank and download the transaction as.QBO file.
  2. Then, in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Go to the File menu
  3. Select Utilities then Import and then click Web Connect Files.
  4. Click the.QBO file you saved, then select Open.
  5. Select your bank account.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. You should see a dialogue box telling you that the data has been successfully read into QuickBooks and select OK.
  8. Then, go to the Bank Feeds Center.

Here's an article you can read for more details: Import web connect (.qbo) files.

Moreover, you can also contact our Live Support Team. They can pull up your account securely and have the necessary tools to further investigate the issue. They can also create an investigation ticket if need be.

If you encounter errors while importing transactions, utilize this article for some fixes: Fix Web Connect import errors.

Let me know in the comment below how it goes. I'll be here if you need further assistance importing transactions into QuickBooks. Take care always.

I'm looking for what to troubleshoot as to why all transactions dor EACH card don't download.

Otherwise, it's just like how Chase occurred. Download all the transactions manually one account at a time...

Not the way Intuit explained this "improvement " would work.  Everything takes 4x as long now to do.

Intuit support line was useless. She wanted to email me a “how to download “ doc or sell me a 2023 software upgrade! Without even understanding the issue.

I solved my issue by using my wife’s login since she’s the primary cardholder and it captured all the employee card transactions- just like I’ve been doing for past 8 years as the full access Amex account manager.

Either way, this never should of been the case. Intuit should of had a solution, I’m sure I’m not the only one. Yet, there was none or at least someone should of known one.

Today, I still can’t download Chase transactions for all accounts in one log in. I’ve got to go in and download EVERY account.

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

Thanks for letting us know about the issue with your bank account drop-down in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), RebekahM. Let's sort this out together.

You'll want to check the Chart of accounts to see if your existing AMEX account is active or inactive. Once verified but still unable to locate your AMEX account in the drop-down arrow.

We can perform the Verify and Rebuild tools to locate and fix common issues with your company file, especially with your missing account.

Here's how to verify data:

  1. Go to the File menu, and select Utilities.
  2. Choose Verify Data, then tap OK to close all windows. If you see that, Your data has failed the integrity check error message you'll need to rebuild your file. If there are no problems with your data, you’re done.

If there are problems with your company file, you'll have to rebuild it:

  1. Go to the Files menu and select Utilities.
  2. Choose Rebuild Data, and then click OK.
  3. Tap OK to make a backup to prevent data loss along the process.
  4. Hit OK to continue the rebuild process.

For more insights about the verify and rebuild process, you can check out this article: Verify and Rebuild data.

I've also added these articles for future reference:

Keep me posted if you have additional concerns with your bank account in QBDT. I'll be around. Take care!

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

I'm still at a complete loss trying to reconnect my Amex credit cards since March 30th. On March 30th, my Quickbooks for Mac 2023 Desktop software said I had to disconnect from the American Express bank feed and connect to the QBDT one instead.

I can authenticate with QBDT just fine, I can even select the 4 accounts I need. But after I select the 4 accounts and it sends me back to Quickbooks to link the accounts to my existing Quickbooks accounts for each card, it tells me that no cards are available to link.

I've been in contact with support MULTIPLE times. Last time I was told that since I have an authorized user on one of my accounts I need to instead connect to American Express Delegate. Only problem is that every single I'm in the last 8 days I've tried that, it signs me in and then says the service is not available and to try back "in a few hours."

So - I don't even know which is the right service to connect to and, whichever it is, how to make it actually connect. Has anyone else been in this situation and actually gotten reconnected?

I just called Amex and deleted the authorized user on my Platinum card. That didn't help. Then I tried to connect just one account. That also didn't work.

Amex can't help since I'm being fully authenticated and connected to Amex and it let's me select my accounts. It's only when it passes me back to Quickbooks that everything fails.

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

Update: I was instructed by the Twitter to delete my FDir which I did. When I tried to link again, both American Express QBDT and American Express Delegate were gone. Only the original connection (American Express) remained. So I tried to reconnect to that. It accepted my credentials but again won't let me link any of my online accounts to their respective Quickbooks accounts, saying that I am already setup for online access.

Losing my mind.

Anyone in your place would also feel the same. I'm here to ensure this will be taken care of.

Bank feeds are connections that automatically download transactions from your bank account. You can also use this to connect your bank and credit card accounts to online banking.

You'll want to deactivate bank feeds to refresh the connection. To do so, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Lists and then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Right-click the account you want to turn off. Then select Edit Account.
  3. Go to Bank Settings.
  4. Select Deactivate all online services, then select OK.
  5. Click Save & Close.

Once done, reactive bank feeds by connecting your bank account.

In addition, learn how you can match the transactions to the ones in QuickBooks after you download your bank transactions. Go through this article for your guide: Add And Match Bank Feed Transactions In QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you have any concerns when connecting with your bank. I'll always be right here if you need further assistance.

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

After all I posted you just send me a link to deactivating accounts and reactivating? I clearly already deactivated them and that is the whole problem - they can't be reconnected!

Anyway - someone on Twitter support pointed me in the right direction and I created a test company and the link worked there so now apparently I have to create four new credit card accounts in Chart of Accounts, download the transaction data there and merge from the old accounts. Needless to say, I'm nervous something will go wrong.

Can other users with Amex credentials use the bank feeds after the owner sets it up?

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

Glad to have you here, @Nic29.

The account permissions set by the account owner will determine whether other users with Amex credentials can access QuickBooks Desktop's bank feeds feature. They can access the functionality if the owner has granted them the necessary permissions.

To allow users to do online banking, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Company menu, then select Users.
  2. Select Set Up Users and Roles.
  3. Enter the admin password, then select OK.
  4. Click Add User or Edit User.
  5. Add or modify their username and password, then Next.
  6. Choose which area of QuickBooks the user has access to, then select Next.
  7. If you choose Selected areas of QuickBooks, you can customize the restrictions for different areas of the company file for the newly created user.
  8. On page 7 (Sensitive Accounting Activities window), select the level of access you want to give the user. This area allows the user to do online banking.
  9. When done, click Finish.

After you download transactions, you have to categorize them. That way, you can determine which transactions your financial institution has processed and which ones haven’t cleared the bank yet.

Thanks for joining the thread, @anne231.

I can see how the new integration with American Express and QuickBooks Desktop affects your business. Thus, I'll take note of this and send your feedback to our team leaders.

The error message you're getting with means that the new connection requires the account owner's approval credentials. I'd suggest contacting the primary account holder secure authorization to proceed with the Bank Feeds set up.

After having the primary credentials, update QuickBooks to the latest release and create a backup of your company file. Then, prepare to switch to the new system and connect again your American Express account.

You can checkout this article for the complete instructions: Refresh your connection for Express Web Connect online banking.

If you're still getting the same results, I'd suggest getting in touch again with our QuickBooks Team. They can pull up your account in a secure environment and have the necessary tools to further investigate the issue. They can also create an investigation ticket if need be.

In the meantime, you can download a file (.QBO) with your company's transactions from your bank or credit card. Then, manually import that file to QuickBooks to add those transactions to your account.

Once your transactions are in, it's time to categorize and match them

Please don't hesitate to let me know how it goes in the comment section below. I'm always ready to help. Take care, @anne231.

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

I was able to debug the issue myself. The phone support team has not been of any help when it comes to this issue.

There is a bug with American Express QBDT where if the primary admin adds this account to Bank Feeds, then no other user can ever open Bank Feeds Center again. To grant those users access again, the primary admin needs to open Bank Feeds Center and deactivate the QBDT account.

There is another bug with American Express QBDT where only the primary admin account has the ability to see American Express QBDT in the account list when creating a new bank feed account.

To resolve this, I deleted the bank feeds text file and replaced it with the 2022 version posted on Intuit's site. This allows other users to see Amex QBDT in the list, however an XML parse error is thrown all the time for them in the Bank Feeds center and they are still unable to add Amex QBDT as an account. The error says that they need to be granted access by the primary admin.

Evidently, the primary admin has no means to grant this permission to any user.

So the only workaround I've found is to deactivate Amex QBDT from Bank Feeds, download transactions from Amex and import them as a .qbo file.

After this terrible experience, and the 6 month ordeal to transfer over my account from the previous owner, needless to say I am extremely unhappy with Quickbooks and will be looking to switch to an alternative in the coming months.

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

I have a client who got a message in Desktop 2023 after he upgraded from 2021  to disable and reconnect his AmExp (2 accounts) to Bank Feeds.  After being on the phone with QB Accountant Support I was told that to get Direct Connect to happen in Desktop he would need to call AmExp and have them setup Direct Connect on their end for him.  It does seem I remember in the past that AmExpress HAD to allow the Direct Connect.

We have several AMEX cardholders and the transactions are only downloading from the main cardholder account.  When I go to connect the account, it shows all the cardholders but the only one with a balance is the main cardholder.  The balance amount is the entire balance for ALL cardholders.  I don't understand why this will not work and it will not let me connect all cardholders to the one account in Quickbooks Desktop.

American Express QBDT Bank Feed Update

Hello there, mmtn, and @Julie L2.

I recognize the importance of getting your bank feeds functioning back to normal. Let me direct you to the right support that can address your banking concern on time.

We'll have to determine how your Financial Institution (FI) sends the downloaded transactions to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This makes sure that the accounts can be set up easily and that transactions are properly tracked into the correct account.

So, I advise getting in touch with American Express customer service to see if connections for additional accounts or sub-accounts are supported. When you have the information handy, let's go ahead and set up the accounts. This reference will walk you through the process: Refresh your connection for Express Web Connect online banking.

After downloading the entries, make sure to classify them into the correct category for easy reconciliation

Regarding your concern @RebekahM, let's update your Financial Institutions Directory (FiDir) in QuickBooks Desktop to get the latest information from your FI. Then, link your bank account to QBDT.

You can go over the Banking Hub to gain access to our online resources. From there, you'll find articles about managing your deposits and troubleshooting bank feed errors, to name a few.

Keep me posted if you have any clarifications about connecting your bank accounts to QBDT or other product-related concerns. I'll get back to help you the best that I can.
