Attaching Bank Statements to Bank Reconcilation

Let us talk about this mythical attaching Bank Statements to Bank Reconciliations. Before I start I am going to put a in guidelines of what I want to figure out.

I want to be able to at minimum attach bank statements to bank reconciliations. I do not care about how some supported bank can automatically download bank statements to quick books for you. I want to be able to long in and click and drag over a PDF of the bank statement and attach it to the bank reconciliation like I can attach any image to any other transaction in QBO.

I am figuring this out on QBOA at first so I would have a version that supports this. I have Clients at Plus who would like to use this as well. As I understand Plus and above can get this function. However I am honestly baffled as to why such a basic function would be pay walled. One of the main benefits of QBO is that it acts as a cloud storage for supporting documentation. Having a pay wall for the cloud storage of one of the more important and constant forms of bookkeeping documentation seems silly to me. So please don't ask me If I have the correct subscription. But please tell me if QBOA is somehow excluded from support for this function for some silly reason.

My bank is not supporting of the auto download but I don't care about the auto download I just want the manual attachment function. If I hear that you are adding more bank support all the time for the auto download one more time I might scream. Also if this article gets linked to me again  I might scream :https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/statement-reconciliation/get-bank-statements-direc...

Finally from support I was told that if I don't have a bank account at a supported bank the feature of being able to manually attach bank statements to bank reconciliations would not be active on my account. Period. Please confirm if that is the case. If you do confirm if that is the case please put in a ticket as well to ask for that to be changed. I see no reason why the ability to manually attach a document should be dependent of being able to automatically attach a document. It should be the other way around.

Finally just to prove that I do not have this function Here is a screenshot of the missing buttons.

Thank you for posting here in the Community, @APPLEPIE54.

I can provide some information about the feature to attach bank statements to a bank reconciliation.

The feature to attach your bank statements to your reconciliations is available in QuickBooks Online Plus, Advanced, Accountant, and QuickBooks Live users. You can simply click on Attach statement when you’re prompted with a pop-up message after completing the reconciliation. However, your bank must be connected, so you'll get bank statements automatically.

I can see the importance of being able to attach statements like how you can do it to any other transaction in QBO. That would be a great addition to the current features that we have, so I’ll be sure to take note of it. For now, you can visit the QuickBooks Blog to check for new updates and features that we have.

Here's a guide on how to reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online and what to do when you encounter issues when reconciling: Fix issues at the end of a reconciliation in QuickBooks Online.

That's it! Let me know if you have any other concerns or follow-up questions when reconciling your accounts. Take care and have a wonderful day!

I am using QBO Accountant. When I do bank reconciliations I do not get the request to attach a statement, nor do I have the option to attach after by going thru the History by Account screen. Why is this? He has a Plus subscription.

I’m here to help and share some insights on how to get around this issue, @akfailla1.

There are times that the browser is full of frequently access web page. When this gets outdated, it can cause an issue with your QuickBooks performance. To verify this, let access your account via a private window (incognito).

Incognito window doesn’t save any data file, thus, it’s the best tool to verify a browser’s cache issue. To begin, here are the keyboard shortcuts that you can use to in opening a private window:

  • For Google Chrome browser, press keys: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Mozilla Firefox browser, press keys: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Safari browse, press keys: Command + Shift + N

Once logged in, attach the statement again to double-check. If you’re able to, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. If you’re unable to, try using other supported browsers and check if this is a browser-integrated issue.

In case you need to make some adjustment to your clients' reconciliation, check out this link for your reference: Undo a client’s reconciliation in QuickBooks Online Accountant.

I am also experiencing this problem. All clients have the same version of QBO Essentials. All use big banks (TD & RBC) and are connected to the bank feeds.

Client A: connected to RBC Bank, does not have option to "view statements" nor does it have the option to "attach statements' either at the end of the reconciliation or after the fact in "History by Account". The "attachments" column does not exist.

Client B: connected to TD Bank, does not have option to "view statements" nor does it have the option to "attach statements' either at the end of the reconciliation or after the fact in "History by Account". The "attachments" column does not exist.

Client C: connected to RBC Bank, can view and download statements and attach (at end of reconciliation or after the fact).

Client D: connected to TD Bank, can view and download statements and attach (at end of reconciliation or after the fact).

My own books I am given the option to view statements but unable to download anything (says no statements available) but I am able to attach a .pdf of my statements to my reconciliation. Of course, I use QBO Accountant.

I have repeatedly asked Quickbooks about this for over a year now but still nothing has changed. The only difference between clients A&B and C&D is that A&B have had the software longer so it's almost like certain updates didn't get applied to older subscriptions. Would love to see this fixed.

When using the Incognito window can you still open multiple windows or use tabs? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for reaching out to us here in the Community, @angelacct.

Yes, you can still open multiple windows or tabs when accessing your company file through an incognito window. Just copy the link or click the duplicate button when you right-click the tab.

Attaching Bank Statements to Bank Reconcilation

Hi, @cookingclo.

I'll help you with downloading your bank statement to your computer.

If you're trying to upload your bank transactions to QuickBooks manually, you can download your bank statements through your bank's website. I'll guide you how.

  1. Sign in to your bank's website.
  2. Follow your bank's instructions for how to download CSV files of your transactions to your computer.
  3. Check the date range for the download. It should be at least one day before the date of your oldest transaction.
  4. Download your transactions. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it, like your computer's desktop.

After that, you're now ready to upload them to QuickBooks Online.

Once your bank transactions are available on the Banking page, you need to review them and put them in the correct accounts. You can check out this link as your guide: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

If you have any other questions about downloading your bank statements, please notify me by adding a comment below. I'm always here to help. Keep safe!

I am having a similar issue - 2 (related) clients, both using the same bank. One has the option to fetch statement from the bank and attach statements to the recon, one does not. Any updates on why this is happening?

Attaching Bank Statements to Bank Reconcilation

I can share some information about attaching statements to bank reconciliation in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @emilyh7.

The feature to manually attach bank statements to reconciliation is available to QuickBooks Online PlusAdvancedAccountant, and QuickBooks Live users. You may verify with your clients their current subscription.

You can advise them to upgrade their current subscription to have the feature to attach statements to bank reconciliation.

Here’s more information about getting bank statements and attaching them to a reconciliation: Get bank statements directly from your bank when you reconcile.

Refer to the following link for more information about our plans and pricing: Intuit QuickBooks. Then, check the following article for more information about upgrading or downgrading the current QBO subscription: Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription

Both clients in question are on Plus - but only one has the option to attach statements. Same bank so I know the bank offers the option.

Thanks for getting back here, emilyh7.

I'd like to share some troubleshooting steps to get the option available.

Sometimes, corrupted file caches can cause missing content display or buttons not working. Let's perform the basic troubleshooting to rule out any browser-related issues.

To start, open your company in an incognito or private browser. This mode will not save any browsing history.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

Next, check to see if you have the option to attach the bank statement. If the option is available, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Clearing cache on a daily basis helps resolve certain problems, like loading or formatting issues on sites.

Finally, restart your browser to refresh the settings.

Using other supported browsers can be a good alternative, too.

If you're still unable to see the option for the other client, I recommend reaching out to our Customer Care Team. They can investigate what's causing this behavior and help you fix it.

Here's how you can reach out to us:

  1. Click the Help icon located in the upper right-hand corner.
  2. In the Help window, click the Contact Us button located at the bottom.
  3. Enter your question and click Let's talk.
  4. Choose either Start a chat or Call us.

If you have the new QuickBooks Assistant help update, you can follow these steps:

  1. In your QuickBooks Online account, go to the Help > Assistant.
  2. Type Talk to a human and click the Contact a human button.
  3. Select Live Chat / Call me back.

To learn more about reconciling an account in QuickBooks Online, you can watch the video tutorial in this article: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

You can always get back to me if there's anything else you need. I'll be around to help you out some more. Keep safe.

Hi I am wondering if attaching PDF bank statements is available to all QBO accounts.  I have multiple clients and not all my plus clients have the feature however some  some clients with  essentials have it.  Thanks

Attaching Bank Statements to Bank Reconcilation

Hi there, danielle_casey.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll be sharing additional details about attaching PDF bank statements to reconciliation. Then, to ensure that all your clients have this feature.

As mentioned above, importing or attaching bank statements to help you reconcile an account are available for QuickBooks Online Plus, Advanced, Accountant, and QuickBooks Live users. However, I suggest verifying from your financial institution if they support this kind of feature. This might be the reason why the said option is missing from your client's QBO Plus account. If your bank approves this one, you'll get the statements automatically when you reconcile it. Please know that we're working with banks to make this feature more widely available. You may click this article to see a different list of supported banks: Supported Financial Institutions.

If the issue persists, you can recommend your clients to log in to their QuickBooks account using a private browser. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using:

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, they have to clear the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. You can check this article to see the steps: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

If the steps above didn't work, use another supported browser as alternatives.

Additionally, please refer to this article to view various details or guidelines that you may use in doing or fixing a reconciliation issue: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

Please let me know if you have other concerns in reconciling your accounts in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help.

Why can we not attach to a client whose Bank does not support a bank feed, this is even more reason why having the statement attached would be beneficial?  Last year it was suggested that this may be a feature that will come eventually, is there any update on that?

My client has QBO Plus. Bank statement in .pdf CANNOT be uploaded.  I've tried multiple browsers and incognito withOUT success.  Calling QBO is insane to get any help.  I REFUSE TO RECOMMEND MY CLIENT TO UPGRADE THEIR ALREADY $80/MO SUBSCRIPTION for this option.  THIS IS A BASIC option.  Its a .pdf -- not brain surgery.  I will scream if someone refers me to "bank not supported."  It has NOTHING to do with the bank.  Its a INTUIT SOFTWARE PROGRAMMING issue if it cannot attach a .pdf.  PLEASE Intuit -- LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!!  We advocate for your business.  Solve it!!!

I was having this issue also, I finally figured it out. When you are in the reconcile screen, if you have not set-up the import pdf statement, you should see a box right above the Watch Stuart's Video box. It's gone from my screen now because I just set it up. But I have attached an image showing were the box should be if you have not set it up yet. Once you enable this option, it should then show View Statements button on this page and also the Statement Column in the History By account screen.

to attach in any QB version including QBDesktop just create a transaction with zero value, then open it with transaction report and you will have access to the edit transaction feature that supports file attachments.  Attach your  PDF bank statement and PDF reconciliation there.  Tu veut attacher etat de compte? Tiens, le voici ! perhaps put a helpful description in the memo field and use the bank name as the vendor so you can later search for all statements by vendor name.  Pas un mystère.
