Credit Card qbo import fails with "Name is already in use"

Trying to import a .qbo file from a credit card company.  The account number changed so i had to disconnect the bank services and reconnect.

I can no longer import the .qbo file into the existing account.  The error is "Name is already in use" when prompted what account to use.   Here are the steps i have taken:

1. Am able to create a brand new account and import the transactions without any problem so the .QBO file is not damaged/ corrupt. Cannot merge the two accounts because if i use the original account, the entries move over but still cannot load a new .QBO file because receive the same message.

2. I searched all my lists and there is no duplicate name (it is the name of the credit card with a dash and the last four digits of account - so i know it is unique)

3. I renamed the original account to something nonsensical and tried to import and received the same error!

Why is this error happening when it prompts me to SELECT the existing bank account to use ?

Credit Card qbo import fails with "Name is already in use"

Hey there, LongtimeUser. Thanks for bringing this question to the Community. I'm here to help you see why this error is occurring.

I appreciate your effort in the troubleshooting steps you've taken so far, this helps me to better identify what's happening. I've gone ahead and done some research on my end about this "Name is already in use" error you're receiving. It's not one that Intuit's aware of upon reviewing our fix Web Connect import errors article which details known messages. To gather a little bit more information, do you happen to see any codes (numeric and/or alphabetical) accompanied by this message?

Before trying to import anything, make sure to follow the process below:
1. Create a backup of your company file.
2. Confirm you're using a supported version of QuickBooks and that you're on the latest release.
3. Check to assure your Internet Explorer browser is updated to it's latest available version.

Even though you're obtaining a file to import into your books, there's still a connection which takes place between the financial institution and Intuit. If an invalid response is received from their server, it will cause issues with files importing successfully.

Banks can change how they choose to support QuickBooks Desktop and you should be notified if this occurs. To check, sign in to your bank's website and review all notifications. In the event you see any messages about changes taking place to their support of Intuit Web Connect, follow their instructions on what to do.

Additionally, a bank may ask an account holder to verify their identity before they can access QBDT data. This happens sometimes after reinstalling or updating to a newer version. To fix or check on this, simply log in to the online portal they provide you with and look for any requests for access, then move forward with their provided process on what to do.

Aside from the above-mentioned things, unsupported characters in the .QBO file can also cause problems when trying to import the information. Here's how the file can be edited:
1. Right-click the file, then Edit.
2. Choose which app you want to use to run the file. For basic editing purposes, you're going to want to use a text editor program.
3. Locate and delete any instances of &amp from the text, as this is an invalid character.
4. Save the file so it reflects your changes.

Once it's been updated, you can try importing the file again.

Here's a couple extensive resources which may come in handy:

Credit Card qbo import fails with "Name is already in use"

thanks for the info:

1) there is no error message shown.  i have attached screen shot of what i see

2) I edited the .qbo file and tried to import it and received the same error message (mind you the original worked when i created a new quickbooks account without any editing).

I believe it is some kind of lookup that Quickbooks is doing to see if the account has bank feed turned on and for some reason it did not clear my entry when i turned off the bank feed for this credit card.

As mentioned before, the data loads without error if i select the option to create a new account  which leads me to believe the issue is with  quickbooks - otherwise i would be having the same problem even with a new account.
