QUICKBOOKS ACCOUNTANT'S DESKTOP
Discover just recently stopped letting you export transactions as .QBO web connect file - as well as live feeds.
QBooks desktop won't accept .csv imports.
How do we get Discover card transactions into QBooks Accountant's Desktop?
Thanks!
I'd be delighted to help you import transactions, TinaMMarino.
Before we start, we'll have to convert the file downloaded from Discover to a .QBO file to successfully import to QuickBooks.
Also, there are some possible reasons we're having trouble in importing a downloaded qbo file (Web Connect) in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT):
Before we start fixing our Web Connect error, we'll have to create a backup of your company file. Then, make sure we've kept our software updated so we always have the latest features and fixes.
Next, we'll have to download the Web Connect file from your bank to ensure it's the correct file. Here's how:
When you still encounter the error message, we can go back to the bank's website and review notifications. Follow the instructions to complete all the necessary updates.
In case the error continues, we can check this article to help you fix errors when using the web connect: Fix common Web Connector errors in QuickBooks Desktop.
I've also added this article for your future reference: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.
Let me know how it goes in the comments below. If you have other importing concerns or managing transactions in QuickBooks, I'm just around to help.
No, that won't work.
It is not possible to sign into the bank and download the QBO file, as you state.
Discover has discontinued the ability to download to Intuit products.
I appreciate you for getting back to us, TinaMMarino.
You can use Bank Feeds to get transactions from your bank and import them to QuickBooks. However, this is only possible when:
You can check this reference for the detailed information about this process: Disconnect Bank Feeds.
You can always post n the forum whenever you have concerns about banking.

Use csv2qbo converter tool as a workaround.

Called Discover technical support and they say it is changes made by Intuit that won't allow them to offer QBO downloads for desktop.
Intuit please fix this - we want to use desktop!
Consistent working speedy internet is a problem in many areas still - we want to be able to access our bookkeeping software even if our internet is having problems.
Discover places the blame for this squarely on Quickbooks and no longer provides a .QBO format to download. So, does Quickbooks expect their users to pay $25/mo to another vendor to download their financial information into a program they have purchased? That really isn't acceptable. In fact, it is just bad business. It seems it is problematic for many users. Why can't you, Quickbooks, fix this? For twenty years you have inconvenienced me with haphazard, willy-nilly programming decisions. I am truly glad this will be the last year I ever have to use this product. Paper and ledgers were honestly more cooperative.

Last resort, don't purchase the subscription license to convert your bank statements. Afaik, you can purchase the one time license of csv2qbo converter for $60
Wondering if anyone's been able to fix this issue. Looks like Discover still doesn't have the .qbo file any longer and the only option is a file converter you'd have to pay to use. If other banks still support the .qbo file, is the issue really with QB or with Discover? Thanks to anyone who can help.
Thank you for joining in this conversation, laurel10.
Having a downloadable Web connect file in a QBO format is a financial institution's decision. I feel sad for our clients with Discover accounts that you don't have that option anymore. I recommend sending a request through their website to have it restored if possible. In this way, too, they'll know that they have many clients who need it.
On the other hand, if you need references for QBDT, just visit the main support page, scroll down a bit, and click More topics.
Let me know if you have any other concerns about online banking. Enjoy the rest of the day!
I am having the same issue. I am using 2022 QB Desktop for mac.
I believe this is the last year of the QB desktop for mac, so is it possible they are going to leave us hanging?
We have trusted our software, QB's with something this important, pleases get a solution for us.
I used Batch Enter Transactions in the accountant version. It took me at least twice as long because there are no rules to help. I had more than 70 transactions. I had to make sure the Vendor names matched what was in QBD. I will probably do this weekly now to make it more manageable. It would be amazing if Intuit would find a way to let us create .qbo files without having to use a third party.
I have been looking for a reason to leave Quick Books and this may be the reason. I have been a user since 2000 and it get more $$$$$ every year.
I have several Discover Card Accounts and the thought of leaving them and their excellent customer/security service is heart breaking. Discover says it is Intuit that will not play nice.
I want to stay on Desktop for the same reason as lizzc, not everyone has great broadband service and I want my books "in house" when I want to work on them, rain or shine. My choice of internet connect is DSL or Starlink and although we did move to Starlink, I have not been on it long enough to know how reliable it will be in bad weather.
I am unhappy also that we can no longer purchase Desktop at stores such as Sams so we don't have to update EVERY year. My understanding is that there is a mandatory annual renewal of $500/year...maybe $450, and if you use QB Payroll, it is another $500. I only have TWO employees and will pay an additional $5/month/employee in addition to the annual subsctiption. Using Quick Book checks is another expense but I admit they are quality checks.
Leaving Quick Books may also cause me to have to change Accountants, depending on my selection as I understand many Farm Accounting Programs require their in house Accountants and are super complicated.
Do I sound up set? Up set doesn't even touch how I feel tonight.

If you are running a business with revenue <50K USD per annum, consider switching to another accounting app with a free plan. You can only pay for payroll as add-on (i.e $19/month + $3/month/employee).
Do you or others have a suggestion for other Accounting Apps?
Send me a private message for details. One thing is for sure, we only recommend cloud-based accounting applications.
I completely understand where you are coming from. Also a farmer with sketchy internet access. There are so many users like us out there. How are we supposed to make this work when we can't get dependable cloud access?
So, I talked to an agent at Discover about this and they were about as helpful as QB - not at all. Are we ever going to get a solution here??
I have been dealing with this as well, thinking it was something on Discovers end as Intuit would lead you to believe. Thanks for posting this! I don't think that I will be using intuit much longer, as most of their products have gone downhill. I would rather spend my time focusing on my business rather than chasing down their problems that they don't seem to want to address.
I can't fine any way to download or import Discover into QuickBooks. Does this mean manual entering is my only choic?
Hello there, @PASC. I'll share additional information about importing Discover to QuickBooks and how you can import your transactions.
The ability to download Discover to QuickBooks is being discontinued. However, you can convert the file downloaded from Discover to a supported file type. You may also read through the suggested options in the thread for further details.
Additionally, if you cannot convert to a supported file type to import, I agree with you in entering it manually into QuickBooks. Here's an article for your guide: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop. This article contains more detailed instructions on how to import data into QuickBooks Desktop in various formats, as well as a list of transactions that can be imported into QBDT.
Furthermore, the other way to import is you'll want to consider looking for a third-party app at the QuickBooks App Store, that allows you to import the transactions from your Discover account to QuickBooks Desktop.
I've also added the following articles for future purposes:
Feel free to post back if you need further assistance. I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Have a good one

I want this to be easy!!
i'm with you... quickbooks has been getting more and more expensive and quirky.
the account dropdowns don't work in this new and improved more expensive version.
and I love discover - as you said, customer service beyond compare. and real human beings on the other end.'
not sure what my alternative will be. might ask in my communities!
If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore this one. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.
