Export Quickbooks Online to Desktop

The official answer provided is only partially correct.  Here's the rest of it:

The ONLY effective guide on this can be found here:  https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/import-or-export-data-files/export-and-convert-you...

 Things to keep in mind:

  • This will almost always end up as an escalated ticket with Data Services because this process has always resulted in a corrupted file every time I've ever used it.
  • Turn off your computer's Anti Virus while using the migration tool
  • When you open your local QB Desktop program while using the migration tool, be sure to open it as administrator.  It makes a difference.
  • When the migration tool has completed and you have the resulting file open, rune a rebuild immediately; it will show errors, so you might as well get that out of the way before support asks you about it.
  • Compare your chart of accounts and verify all of the balances for each line item is correct.  Note the ones that are not correct.
  • Open payroll and compare it with your online company file.  You may have extra employees or are missing employees.
  • Contact QB support and request a data services ticket and list all of the problems that you have found.  Ask for a manager after the 2nd-or 3rd time they ask you something you've already told them.
  • 50% of the time you will be hung up on; just try it again and immediately ask for a manager and repeat your request for a Data Service ticket.
  • If you have done all of the above, have double-checked that you followed every step in the guide Intuit wrote for this in the link above and you provide them with a list or each problem that you found with the new file, you will spend considerably less time on this and greatly reduce your own frustration.
  • If you get a bad tech and they begin to argue with you:  Don't waste your time.  Hang up or end the chat and start it again with someone else.  Reference the other attempt and move on with someone new.  each try gives you a chance of having a better tech on the line with you..
  • At all time be firm, but polite and professional.  Intuit knows they have a lot of challenges with their support so there's no need to waste your energy or make their day aggravating if you don't have to.  It is what it is, so navigate the issues as outlined above and you will greatly reduce your stress.
  • The ONLY way to provide support with your company ID is to log into QBO and while on the home page of your company, hit the combination of these keys:  CTRL-ALT-/  That open a new window with your company ID in it.  Support will always ask for that.
  • If you do not want your file to end up in the 2022 version, because it's not all that stable yet and while my own company is using it, I will not put any of my clients in it due to a lot of update and other issues that still exist.  Make them aware of exactly which version you are using and that you expect the result to be in that same version or they will default to premier 2022.

Do you need to convert data from QBO US version to QBD US version, or else?

HHHLTD

Export Quickbooks Online to Desktop

I want to export from QBO in the UK to QBD Professional 2019 – UK Version.

I’m not sure what I have to back up.  All the data on QBO?   There is, presently, no data on QBD.

I would like to export/import the complete data file, not just particular files, balances or lists.

I am retiring from business after having been a QB customer, and a great fan, for around 30 years.  Presumably, if I keep my Pro 2019 programme running, it will continue to serve me even though I won’t be able to update the system.

If it’s all,do-able, where can I find instructions?

Kind Regards

Don

QBD 2019 is outdated. Your best option is using a migration tool (i.e TP Exporter for Online, TP Imorter for Desktop).

What do I do if the only option under file is to close company / log off?  There is no close company only option.

Thanks for following this thread, oneilk283. I'll share additional insight regarding the option.

To be more specific, are you attempting to open another company file? If so, the Close Company/Log off and Close Company features serve the same purpose.

If you want to move your QuickBooks Desktop firm to the QuickBooks Online edition, you must utilize a supported QB Desktop. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to Help, and then Upgrade QuickBooks.
  2. Select the version you want to upgrade to, then select Upgrade Now.
  3. You can keep a copy of your current version of QuickBooks. Choose to Keep old version on my computer, then click Let’s go.

If you don't want to upgrade, you can consider Fiat's recommendation in using a migration tool.

Export Quickbooks Online to Desktop

Hello there, @sm6.

I can see the urgency of resolving this as soon as possible to get you back in working order. To ensure that this gets sorted out, let's make sure that you're using the supported QuickBooks Desktop version and that it's updated to the latest release.

Moreover, if you use Advanced Mode in bank feeds, you need to sign in to your Intuit Account or switch modes. Import of web connect files (.qbo) requires you to sign in to your Intuit Account within QuickBooks Desktop.

On the other hand, if the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support Experts. They can securely review your account to furtherly investigate your situation and provide you with a timely resolution.

Moreover, I'll also share this link where you can search for articles that can serve as your reference to guide you manage your QuickBooks file: QuickBooks Desktop Help Articles.

I'm looking forward to getting this resolved. Feel free to leave a reply if you require further assistance with managing your QuickBooks file. The Community team always has your back. Keep safe.

We converted to QB Online and were very unhappy to find that despite what we were told...we really didn't have to.  We migrated back, but the deposits didn't seem to transfer starting in 2021 causing us to show an extremley in the negative balance.  What did we do wrong to not have the balance transfer correctly?  How can we fix?  We have literally hours on the phone with support with no help.

I recognize your frustration with migrating your data back to QuickBooks Desktop, @cstephens. I'll explain this further to guide you through the process.

To achieve migrating files from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop, and if you're having a hard time doing it, we need a third-party application to back you up on transferring your deposits and other files if you don't need to do it manually since QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online (QBO) has different interfaces.

Furthermore, the only way to resolve this, we need to enter transactions manually one by one as a workaround.

Moving on, we also have available third-party apps that will integrate with QuickBooks Online. If you need one, you can follow the detailed steps below:

  1. You'll want to check the list within your account in the Apps tab and press Find Apps.
  2. Then look for apps in the Search bar or browse them in the Browse Categories dropdown.

You can also visit directly through this link: QuickBooks Apps store.

I'm also adding this article for more ideas about managing your sales taxes: Manage Sales Tax in Point of Sale when running Financial Exchange.

Ping me again if you need to accomplish other tasks in QuickBooks. I'll be around the corner.

Thanks for this, but migrating to Online was not my issue.  We migrated from Desktop to Online just fine, BUT migrated back to Desktop a few months later and our balance is millions of dollars in the negative.

Hi there, @acstephens

I appreciate you getting back here and providing additional clarifications about your query. I'm here to deliver accurate information to help you through this as soon as possible. Since your data from QBO doesn't match your QBDT, you'll want to give it a try and convert it once again to ensure this has nothing to do with your data:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Desktop company.
  2. On QuickBooks Desktop, go to File and select Close company.
  3. Go back and try to convert your file again. Sometimes converting a second time can fix this problem.
  4. After it finishes, check the Profit and Loss reports again. If they still don’t match, enter manual adjustments to fix the issue.

See this Step 5 on this page for more information: Move your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Furthermore, you can visit this article to learn more about how data from QBO is processed inside QBDT: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

@cstephens, please let me know how it goes. You can mention me in the comment section below if you need further assistance getting your data available inside QuickBooks or if you need to help performing specific tasks inside the program. I'll be here, ready to assist you once again. Take care, and have a nice day!

I would recommend using the last backup file before converting data to QBO. Then use a 3rd party tool to migrate the remaining data from QBO to QBD.

We often have problems using QBD 2022 or 2023 to convert data from QBO. You should try using QBD 2021 instead.

Hello there, @marketing4.

I'll help you migrate your transactions from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

If you used the migration tool from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop and none of the transactions transferred, it is not normal and can be concerning. The migration process should ideally transfer all your transactions from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Verify the migration settings. Double-check the settings you used during the migration process. Ensure that you selected the option to transfer transactions and chose the correct date range for the migration.

Check the migration log. QuickBooks Desktop usually generates a migration log that provides details about the transferred data. Review the log to see if any errors or warnings were encountered during the migration process. This can help identify any specific issues that may have occurred.

If you're unable to resolve the issue on your own, it's best to reach out to Customer Care team for assistance. They can provide guidance and help troubleshoot the problem further. Be prepared to provide them with details about the migration process and any error messages you encountered.

It's important to note that the migration process can sometimes encounter issues due to various factors, such as data inconsistencies or compatibility issues. QuickBooks support will be able to provide you with the most accurate guidance based on your specific situation.

You can also read these articles to help you about migrating data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop:

@Ksawyer1

You should try to convert your QBSE data to QBO as the first step

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/cancel-products-services/switch-quick...

then convert your data from QBO to QB Desktop. You can purchase a 3rd party service to do so.

Export Quickbooks Online to Desktop

Hello there, Ksawyer1.

I'm here to ensure you can successfully move your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) data to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

There's no direct way to migrate your data from the QBSE file to QBDT. That means you first need to transfer the data to QuickBooks Online (QBO) and then from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop. The process involves exporting your data from QBSE, importing it into QBO, and then using the export feature in QBO to transfer the data to QBDT.

Before converting your QBSE file to QBO, you need to save our financial reports first to have an extra copy for safekeeping.

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. From the Tax details section, select a tax year.
  3. Select Download.
  4. Download a report for each year you have in QuickBooks.
  5. Repeat these steps for your Profit and Loss, Mileage Log, and Receipts.

Afterward, copy your data to QBO. Here's an article you can check, and proceed to Step 2 to complete the process: Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online.

Once data is transferred, you can start migrating them from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop

Another option is to look for third-party services that specialize in data migration between different versions of QuickBooks. You can visit our QuickBooks App Store to search for an app that can integrate with QuickBooks that suit your business needs.

Let me know if you need further assistance transferring data between QuickBooks versions. I'll be sure to help.
