How do I stop transactions from auto uncategorizing?

I have 48 transactions I now have to recategorize because the system auto puts ALL transactions to uncategorized expense and income.  This is frustrating.  I have set up rules for many of these, but they still go to uncategorized.

How do I stop transactions from auto uncategorizing?

I hear your sentiments, @IAWTFC. I'll assure you that I can provide you some information in resolving your concern.

QuickBooks Online sometimes categorize transactions into the Uncategorized Income or Uncategorized Expense accounts. Always ensure to classify transactions into a specific income or expense account.

In your case, you can edit the bank rules you've created. If it's still not reflected on your banking, there's a need to delete then recreate the rules.

Find out which default or special account can be deleted, edited, or merged in QuickBooks Online in this article.

How do I stop transactions from auto uncategorizing?

I have deleted ALL rules.  Still every single bank transaction that comes in is auto classified to an uncategorized expense or income for only 1 of my clients.  How do I stop this?  There are sometimes 80 transactions a month that I then have to reclassify or delete, because quickbooks is duplicating them.

How do I stop transactions from auto uncategorizing?

I know how important it is to categorize bank feeds transactions automatically to lessen the workload, and I appreciate you sharing further updates, @IAWTFC.

When setting up bank rule conditions, this will apply to unviewed transactions. Besides, the information that shows in QuickBooks came from the bank, and the bank rules will rectify it to auto categorize transactions. In addition, uploaded bank entries will show as Uncategorized Asset or Expense.

If the bank transaction details don't coincide with the rule condition, the entries will remain uncategorized.

In your case, since you deleted bank rules and still transactions auto classified to uncategorized expenses or income and happen only for one of your clients when downloaded to QuickBooks, I suggest contacting our Care Support team. They have the tools to look into your account and investigate why entries are uncategorized and duplicated.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Help icon from the top right.
  2. Select the Search tab and then hit Contact Us.

Is it from when someone makes a payment through QB? I have the same problem when payments made by my customers when they pay invoice/s through QB.

you for joining the thread, @lindseyk21.

I know how relevant this is for you to minimize your workloads.

let me help you with your concern regarding categorizing transactions from your payments made by your customer.

This usually happens when you upload a new transaction, a new customer, and a new bank rule. In this circumstance, you have to categorize them manually.

Any entries that aren't directed to a single account are automatically classed as uncategorized income. Following these procedures will allow you to amend and move these transactions:

  1.  From the Profit and Loss report, scroll down to the Uncategorized Income.
  2.  Select the Total to see what transactions are in that account
  3.  Click on the Amount of the transaction to open it
  4.  In the Account Details section, hit the drop-down arrow and choose the appropriate account
  5.  When finished, hit Save or Save and Close

In addition, you can set up Bank Rules to automatically categorize transactions for you. This will save you time to investigate transactions and allow you to confidently reconcile your account(s).

If you set up banking rules on another QuickBooks Online company file. Here’s how to import existing bank rules.

Let me know if you have other queries. We’d love to help. Have a nice day!

No.  These are mostly credit card transactions.
