IIF Import

Can no longer download from the bank.   I used to be able to download an IIF file and then import it in.  Nothing but errors now saying that all lists and transactions failed.

Know what changed?  Is anyone else having this issue or have you been able to get it resolved?

Yes what happened is that Intuit really messed up the IIF import process with QB 2019.

However, there is still a way to import the files the old way, which should work.  See  BRC - QuickBooks 2019 IIF Import Changes and Recommendations

I tried that alternative way and it created a bank account for each transaction  - thank goodness I had a back up to restore from!!

I had already tried that alternative (old) solution and it failed.  It created a bank account for each transaction.  Thank goodness for back-ups!!

Some IIF files will not import to QuickBooks 2019, IIFthisworked2019.

This has been reported already and is under investigation. Rest assured, our team is working diligently to get a fix as soon as possible.

For now, if your bank offers Webconnect (.qbo file), you can import bank transactions to QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your bank and download the Webconnect file to your computer.
  2. Open QuickBooks.
  3. Click the File menu, then go to Utilities.
  4. Click Import, then choose Web Connect Files.
  5. When prompted to choose a bank account, select Use an existing QuickBooks account.
  6. Click Continue, then click OK.

You can review the transactions on the Bank Feeds Center page.

I also suggest contacting QuickBooks Technical Support so you'll be added to the list of affected users. Here's how:

  1. Open our website: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Choose your QuickBooks Desktop version.
  4. On the Contact Us page, click Solving Issues & Error Messages, then choose Common Errors.
  5. Click the Get Phone Number button.

Should you have other questions, just tag me and I'll get back to you.

We have been using this template for over 10 years to import checks.  All of the information imports correctly except for the check number (doc num).  After import the check number is shown as a check To Be Printed instead of the check/doc num listed on the template.  Any ideas on how to correct this or is it another bug?

!TRNS    TRANSID    TRANSTYPE    DATE    ACCT    NAME    AMOUNT    DOCNUM

Thanks for joining this thread and for the details you've provided, @tami171.

Based on the sample template you've given, you need to include another column and label it as TOPRINT, then add letter N under it (or if you already have this column and it has letter Y, change it to N instead).

This is how the template should look like:

Once done, save and re-import it again. Here's how:

1. Open QuickBooks and click the File menu at the upper left, then Utilities.
2. Pick Import, then IIF files.

106.PNG
3. Select Import IIF, then locate and open the file.

That should do the trick. For additional information, consider checking out these articles:

IIF Import

This is complete garbage.  I just imported an IIF file and it created HUNDREDS of duplicated accounts.  There is no way to do a bulk delete of these accounts.  Even Intuit support can't do this.

IIF importing has been a known issue with 2019 for MONTHS.  And the fact that every single message board is the same old step by step directions that EVERY SINGLE PERSON has said does not work or it's the guy from BRC trying to get you to buy their IIF converter - shows that no one in Intuit cares about this enough.

This is losing my non-profit organization valuable time I could be doing something else.  All I get when I call is, we will send a note to the development team.  At what point does Intuit actually do something about it?  Everyone basically uses QB for the accounting software, so what's the point of making changes when you have a monopoly on the market.  And everyone is told to just wait for the latest updates.

Someone in Intuit land HAS to care about this, right?

2019 is a piece of smoldering garbage.

Oh, I did finally get a response.  The capability to bulk delete IS possible, but I have to pay more money to upgrade to QB Enterprise.  So this means Intuit DOES have the capability to fix this flaw that is impacting I'm sure thousands of users... but in order to fix THEIR problem, you have to give them MORE money.

Shocker.

Hi, slippitt.

Allow me to take over and share some insights regarding the batch or bulk delete option in QuickBooks Desktop.

Yes, you're right. The option to delete in bulk is only available in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. I would highly suggest creating a backup copy of your company file before exporting and importing your lists, accounts, and transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

It is very important to do regular backups to prevent the loss of data. The software can be reinstalled but your data could quite possibly be lost forever. There are various causes of data loss, machine breakdown, virus, power outage, and software upgrades.

Here are additional references that might be helpful for future use:

For additional help, you can also reach out to our QuickBooks Desktop Support.

  1. Within your QuickBooks Desktop, click Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Click Contact us.
  3. To route you to the correct support expert, we need to know what type of question you have. Give a brief description of your issue and click Continue.
  4. We’ll provide you a few options. You choose which one is best for you

 I understand all that.

My problem is that this IIF import stuff is a clearly an Intuit bug in the 2019 upgrade that no one at Intuit is doing anything about. People have been complaining since December about this.

So in order to fix your bug, I have to have the most expensive version of your software.  When really what Intuit should do is either give people the ability to bulk delete COA duplications (FOR FREE) created with IIF imports or fix the problem with a software update.  Some of us rely on the ability to do IIF imports regularly. And this glitch is costing people time and money.

Hi slippitt,

We've improved our Import IIF Tool in QuickBooks. This way, you'll be able to import list and transactions conveniently. Let me guide you how.

  1. Click File, then Utilities.
  2. Click Import, and then click IIF Files.
  3. Click Import IIF. Then, locate the file.
  4. Click OKNote: We don't recommend the option Import it for me. I'll fix it later. Since this option bypasses data review, some of the info may not be correct or complete for your books. It also requires that you switch to single user.
  5. Click Done once the import is successful.

Make sure the bank's name is the same as your Chart of Accounts.

Please refer to these handy articles for more information about:

I've also added our page about banking and bank feeds if you need some help of your future tasks.

Great! So that 14 months ago. How's it going? So far I haven't seen any fixes to the new, terrible import process which is still chock-full of bugs.
