Im gettting a pop up window Something's not quite right. You need to select a different type of account for this transaction.

I figured out the correct work around - for anyone else having the same problem. I used Journal Entry to move the requisite amount of money from the Security Asset to Accounts Payable which requires a vendor name. Then, when I pulled up the bill under pay bills - the journal entry appeared as an option. I matched the journal entry to the bill and the balance of the bill was cleared, and the bill marked paid. So the solution is to use the Accounts Payable account so that the transfer of money is registered to the vendor who's bill needs paying.

Thank you for providing details, nbalfanz002.

I'd like to help and make sure you're able to print a deposit summary in QuickBooks Online.

I just replicated your scenario and I was able to print a deposit summary. To isolate this issue, I recommend performing some troubleshooting steps to fix browsing issues.

To start, we can access your QuickBooks through a private window from browser, then print the deposit summary from there. Use these keyboard shortcuts to open a private window for browsers:

  • Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome - press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • Mozilla Firefox - press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • Safari - press Command-Shift-N.

If you're able to print without errors, then that's good. You can go back to your regular browsing window and clear it's cache. This will remove outdated and corrupted files than causes unusual behavior.

You can also use other supported browsers that works perfectly with QuickBooks Online.

I've added this resource to learn more about recording a bank deposit: Record and make bank deposits in QuickBooks Online.

I wanna make sure you got everything you need. Let me know in the comments if you still have other banking concerns. I'll be happy to help. Have a good one!

Create a journal entry that applies your security deposit to the last month's rent that's entered as a bill as the following -

Credit the Security Deposit (should be a current asset)

Debit Accounts Payable (and put the Vendor name in the name field)

You should then be able to use that to offset the rent bill.

Agree, this is ridiculous.

I have clients that use escrow accounts to pay things.

And other clients that use due to/from accounts for intercompany transactions.

Forcing us to either Journal Entry it in, or set the accounts as Bank Accounts is stupid.

Similar problem.  I had to relink a mortgage account to my QB online account.  I re-linked it and selected "long term liabilities"  and "notes payable" when I linked it.  Now I am trying to review imported monthly payments.  When I try to split the payment into interest and principal, I get this error message:  "This account is set up as a liability account. To accept this transaction, either disconnect the account or change its category type to bank or credit card."  This didn't used to be an issue, so maybe I messed something up when I re-linked?

I'll go over how we can fix the error you've encountered in QuickBooks Online, @rwheeks

To get around this error, you can disconnect the Mortgage account or change the category to bank or credit card.

Here's how to disconnect an account from online banking:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping, choose Transactions, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select the tile for the bank account.
  3. Select the pencil ✎ icon, then select Edit account info.
  4. Select Disconnect this account on save checkbox. If QuickBooks is downloading new transactions, you won't see this option. Wait a few minutes for the update to finish, and try again.
  5. Click Save and Close.

To change the Account Type, here's how:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping, choose Transactions, then Bank transactions.
  2. Select the tile for the bank account.
  3. Select the pencil ✎ icon, then select Edit account info.
  4. Click the drop-down under Account Type and choose Bank or Credit Card.
  5. Tick Save and Close.

When everything is set, you'll want to check out these articles for guidance. These can guide you further on how to categorize your transactions and reconcile your account flawlessly:

Feel free to reach out again to keep us posted on your progress. I'm more than happy to lend a helping hand if you have more QBO-related concerns. Take care and best regards.

Something's not quite right
"An account you chose for a billable expense doesn't have an income account associated with it. Before you save this transaction, you need to make that association, or the income won't be reported correctly. Tip: Open a new browser window, edit the account and make the association, and then Save in this window."
The category that I'm selecting is a COGS and yet I'm still getting this message... why?

Hello there, @EricaEstrada.

I'll help you fix the error message you're getting when creating a billable expense.

Before creating a billable expense, you can set the settings to a single account to avoid this error.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Expenses.
  3. Click the pencil icon for Bills and expenses.
  4. Tick the checkbox for Track billable expenses and items as income.
  5. Choose the In a single account button.
  6. Select Save.
  7. Hit Done.

You should be able to create a billable expense now without error. You can refer to this article in creating a billable expense: Enter billable expenses.

If the issue persists, switch to Business View instead of Accountant View from the Gear icon.

Im gettting a pop up window Something's not quite right. You need to select a different type of account for this transaction.

Hi, @Just Plumbing Co. I'm here to help you fix the error so you can get back to working order.

First, make sure to select a Credit Card or Liability account when creating the transaction. Then, review the account information to ensure everything is configured accurately. Here's how:

  1. Go to Transactions, then Bank transactions.
  2. Choose the tile for the bank account.
  3. Select the pencil ✎ icon, then click Edit account info.

If everything's good but the error persists, I suggest logging into your QuickBooks Online account using an incognito window. This will help identify whether the problem is related to your web browser. Please utilize these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: CTRL + Shift + P
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + N

If you're able to enter the transaction without errors, that's great news. You can then return to your standard browsing window and clear its cache. Doing so will eliminate outdated and corrupted files that may be causing unusual behavior.

If the error remains, you can try accessing your account using alternative supported web browsers.

Moreover, you may want to run a report with vendor totals that will reflect all payments made to vendors.

Keep me posted about the result or if you have other concerns about recording transactions in QuickBooks. Leave your reply below, and I'll surely provide the necessary help.
