Multiple Chase Credit Card

So after reading a few articles I think I know what to do but I want to verify the steps.

 

So for the longest time I was the only with a Chase credit card.  So I created a Chart of account in QBO named "Chase CC" then under banking I connected my Chase credit card to the Chase CC chart of accounts.  I have been using it like this for 3 years and reconciled all my transactions this way. 

 

Last month I added a sub Chase credit card for my new hire that needs to purchase things for the business.  I was thinking that since my credit card it the primary that all his transaction would show when they sync from the bank but they don't.  I created a new "Chase Emp1" chart of accounts and made it a sub account to my "Chase CC" chart of accounts, but QBO online won't let me because primary and sub can't be sync.

 

So I think I have to do this;

- Create a new chart of accounts named "Chase CC Master"

- Under my "Chase CC" and "Chase Emp1" chart of accounts as sub-accounts to "Chase CC"

- Under banking reconnect my Chase accounts to "Chase CC" for mine and "Chase CC Emp 1" for my new employee.

- Everything will sync and all my previous reconciled data will still be there

 

Is this the right process?

 

Or do I need to use the "Chase CC" as the master chart of accounts since everything is reconciled to it and create a new chart of accounts to use for the sync of my account?  I think the original way above is the proper way since it is where the reconciled data lives.    I just want to make sure I'm doing it right so I don't delete my reconciled data.

Before you connect to Online Banking, you need to know first how your bank sends the downloaded transactions.

 

If all the transactions are posted to one account, I recommend connecting only the parent account with your QuickBooks. But if the transactions are downloaded to their respective accounts, you'll want to connect the subaccounts instead.


You can use this guide to learn more about parent and subaccount setup: Bank or credit card subaccount setup.


Moreover, you can use this information to reconcile an account in QuickBooks. This confirms that the company’s financial records correspond to the amount that has been spent. And both are balanced at the end of the reporting period.

So that is where I'm a little confused/concern.  The parent account which is my account"Chase CC" chart of account that I have been using for years and have been using for reconciled transactions is not syncing Emp 1 transaction over.  So it looks like it is going to be a individual.  

 

Since, it is an individual and all my reconciled data for the past 3 years have been done using the "Chase CC" chart of accounts.  So I should continue to use "Chase CC" for me and make it a sub-account to a new chart of accounts named "Chase CC Master".  Then the new employee, I should create "Chase Emp 1" CC chart of accounts and tag it as a sub to "Chase CC Master"

 

Under Banking use:

Me = Chase CC

New employee = Chase Emp1

 

This way I won't lose my reconciled data, right?

Since this is the case and you're unsure of which account should be the parent and sub, I recommend consulting with your accountant to be accurate. They'll be able to give you the best accounting advice for your business.

SST, wow, those responses to your questions are so frustrating.  I'm having the same issue.  Did your CC Master resolve this for you?

I recommend contacting our QBO Support, so they can do a screen-sharing session to check this further. You can contact them today before 6 PM PT.

 

  1. Click on Help and click the Search tab.
  2. Click Contact Us at the bottom.
  3. Enter a sentence to describe the issue and click Continue.
  4. Choose Start a chat or Get a callback.

Hello, just curios, did you resolve this credit card issue? I am currently in the same situation. Quickbook advised to talk to my accountant, and my accountant advised me to contact Quickbooks and Chase bank advised me to contact Quickbooks and my accountant. Frustrating. I have hand entered transactions 3 years in a row now, not sure that Quickbooks is saving time.

Since the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Support team so they can conduct further investigation to determine the root cause of the problem. Here's how to reach them:
 

1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
2. Select Help (?).
3. Select either tab to get started:
 

  • Assistant: Get quick, personalized answers. Select a suggested option, or type a question or topic you need help with. If you decide you need further help, you can still Talk to a human.
  • Search: Search the QuickBooks Online knowledge base directly, or select Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us:

I am having the same issue. I was on the phone for almost 2 hours today with quickbooks support, and it was a complete waste of my time. Seems like this issue has been going on for years.

Thank you for posting here in the community and bringing this matter to our attention, @KateS4. We wouldn't want you to go through this kind of event.

 

When you connect your bank account to your bank, the transactions are downloaded depending on your financial institution. If the transactions are downloaded to one account, connect only to the parent account. On the other hand, if you download to separate accounts, you need to connect the subaccounts and not the parent account.

 

You can't connect both accounts, or you'll get a message saying that the accounts are already connected.

 

Nonetheless, I suggest you manually add and record the transactions from your application to your Bank Register. Then, if you process the payments within QBO for these transactions, you can exclude them from the banking tab and manually clear them in your register.

 

Follow these steps to connect your subaccounts:

 

  1. To begin, go to the left menu, click the Banking option, and then choose the Banking tab.
  2. Once you're on the Banking page, click on Link account.
  3. Next, type the bank's URL into the Search field.
  4. After that, select your bank. If you encounter multiple options, you may need to repeat these steps to find the right one.
  5. Lastly, enter your bank login details on your bank's website, and then click on Continue.
