Refresh your connection for Express Web Connect online banking notice - Chase accounts

I've tried that. It doesn't show for me. If I look at the "Participating Institutions" list, I can see it, but it doesn't show in the search results.

Hi t here, klgood1.

Let me make it up to you by ensuring you'll be able to see the bank in the participation institution list in QuickBooks Desktop.

Since you're still getting the same error messages after following the steps shared by my colleague above, I highly suggest contacting our Phone Support team. They're able to pull up your account using their screen-sharing (remote access) tool and investigate why you're unable to connect your bank to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). They can also perform other troubleshooting steps to fix this for you.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Let's talk, and then choose a way to connect. Phone support may be limited due to volume.

I've got a link here that provides you with articles about managing your bank transactions: Find help with bank feeds and reconciling accounts.

Please let me know if you have any other issues or concerns by leaving a comment in this thread about connecting your bank to QBDT. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. Have a great rest of the day!

@AbegailS_,

Thank You.  I connected with Jessa Marie and Alvin on webchat.

After all these years, I did not know there was a direct way to connect with support.  I thought the forums were the only way where  tech support was provided because one time when I went to Help it directed me to the forums and not the Chat or Phone links.

So Chase it seems that Chase has moved away from the awesome Direct Connect and only allows Express Web Connect and Web Connect via QBO import.

With Express Web Connect Quickbooks communicates directly with your bank on your behalf. You don't have to sign in to your bank's website and manually download transactions - Quickbooks does this for you. With Direct Connect the original way Quickbooks can even talk back (for bill pay, money transfers, etc.).  With Web Conenct you have to log onto the Banks Website and Download the QBO file.

The Quicken website explains it.  Quicken as people may or may not know was Legacy Product originally made by Intuit and of which Quickbooks came about.  Quicken was spun off to its own company.

Has anyone noticed with this new Express Web Connect feature double entries?

Where it downloads and matches transactions and you approve and then moments later, you see duplicate transactions downloaded and wants you to match?  Because you have already matched and approved, you have to ignore the duplciates?

I have the exact same issue. I match transactions and then when I sync next time, they show up again and I have to ignore each one. I ran rebuild It didn't find any errors.

@HersheyDMD,

The issue is that Chase Bank and the Legacy Chase Banks (eg First Bank...) have been bundled to Chase Bank (All) -new.  With that Chase no longer supports Quickbooks using bidirectional communication via Direct Connect for feeds.  Instead, it utilizes Web Connect which only offer one directional communication from Chase through Express Web Connect where it downloads the daily file.

So Chase it seems that Chase has moved away from the awesome Direct Connect and only allows Express Web Connect and Web Connect via QBO import.

It could be because some people could not activate Chase Direct Feeds because of Internet Explorer II issues.  However there is a work a round that allows you to Change the Default Browser from IE to Chrome or Firefox.  You can follow this thread.

Thanks for joining the thread, HersheyDMD.

I know it saves you time when transactions that already match are never downloaded again. I'll share some additional steps to get this resolved.

Just to make sure, are you experiencing duplicate transactions with Chase bank? Any information will assist me in resolving your issue.

Chase has already discontinued its Direct Connect online banking service. If you've previously connected using this service, I recommend switching to the new Express Web Connect service. Before proceeding, please ensure to disconnect all related accounts. Then, you can follow the steps below to set up new connections.

Here's how:

  1. From the Banking menu, select Bank Feeds, then Set Up Bank Feed for an Account.
  2. In the Enter your bank’s name field, type in the name of your bank or financial institution.
  3. From the My Company sign-in page, log in using your Intuit account credentials.
  4. Enter your online banking account credentials, then click Connect. QuickBooks will connect to the bank’s server.
  5. Choose the account(s) you want to connect to QuickBooks, then select Connect.
  6. Once done, hit Close.

Once done, you may now download your bank transactions through Express Web Connect. I'll show you how.

  1. From the Banking menu, select Bank Feeds, then Bank Feeds Center.
  2. In the Bank Accounts list, select the account you need to download.
  3. Click the Download Transactions.
  4. Once completed, hit Transaction List to process the transactions.

For your reference, see this article for more details: Switch from direct connect to express web connect online banking.

For additional steps, please follow the link provided by JonL to change the default browser from IE to Chrome or Firefox. If the issue persists, I recommend getting in touch with our QuickBooks Desktop Support. They have the tools to check your account and look into what's causing the duplicates.

Once everything is in order, you can review those banking transactions and make sure they match the ones in QuickBooks: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

You're welcome to post again if you need anything else. Have a great day.

@klgood1
Are you getting duplicate a day later from the entries you downloaded and approved the day before?  This new way is horrible.  I liked the old Direct Connect and not this Web Express Connetc.  One is better off doing the QBO manual import function for Chase transactions.

JonL, I haven't had any issues so far. I don't have any experience with manually importing, so hopefully I won't have to do that. I'm using QB with two different companies, and have only checked one so far. I'll let you know if I see any issues with the other one.

@klgood1,

Which version of Quickbooks are you using?

Which Bank Feed Mode?  Advanced; Express or Classic?

I was using Express and was getting duplicates.  So I am now using Advanced Mode and will see how it goes.

Looks like other banks are doing the same as Chase.

Thanks

I did all of that and when I go to link my checking and credit card accounts, they don't show up on the Quickbooks drop down list.  Those accounts have been in effect for almost four years and working perfectly.  Help.

Agreed.  Such a terrible waste of time.  Why didn't they just say it wasn't available until 9/27???

Since we were forced to switch to Express Web Connect, we've had nothing but problems with downloading credit card transactions from Chase. It connects fine, but we get approximately 50% of the transactions each month, and have to manually enter the other half. Any suggestions? This isn't just happening with one particular Chase card and Quickbooks company file. I have TWO different companies and two different cards, both with identical issues getting all the transactions. It worked flawlessly prior to having to switch.

Hello there, @klgood1. Thanks for sharing your banking concern with us. Allow me to help share some steps to download all your bank transactions in QuickBooks.

Since you only get half of your transactions, I'd suggest updating your QuickBooks to the latest release. This way, you have the latest features and product improvements.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Help and choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Update Now tab.
  3. Select the Reset Update and click Get Updates to start the download.
  4. Once done. Hit OK and restart QuickBooks.
  5. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

Then, you can turn off online banking services for your account. Before updating your online banking connections, make sure to disconnect all related accounts so you don't have any discrepancies.

Once done, follow Step 3 in this article to set up your bank feeds again: Refresh your connection for Express Web Connect online banking.

Also, I'll be sharing these articles that will guide you in downloading your bank transactions and how to match them in QuickBooks:

If you have any other questions or concerns, please, feel free to reach out below. I'm always here to help. Take care.

THIS DOES NOT WORK!!! There is no reason it should be taking this long to come up with a fix. Intuit needs to stop worrying about shareholders and more about it's customers

I spent at least an hour chatting with QB support last week after I disconnected Bank Feeds from my account to try and fix this problem, and couldn't get it reconnected due to errors. She kept telling me that the only solution was to manually download QBO files from the Chase website and import the transactions to QB. She even referred to the article from QB support that explains how to set up Express Web Connect when she told me this. She also wouldn't connect me with a higher level support person who actually knew what they were talking about. I eventually gave up, left the chat, and got it connected myself. Time will tell if that fixed the missing transactions problem.

I wish I knew. Prior to contacting tech support, I tried a dozen times to reconnect Bank Feeds, and it would keep giving me an error that it was the wrong type of account. Tech support had me manually import transactions, and then after that, I tried setting up bank feeds again, per the instructions, and it magically worked.
