TCF Bank Huntington Bank merger. Error 176 in banking section. I cannot link QB to Huntington.

The issue has been resolved, I was informed it was an 'engineering' problem. Nothing the bank can do, it just took some time to get it all 'hooked' together on the QB end.

Thank you for all the feedback!

Have you tried opening your QBO account on private/incognito browser?

Let's make sure you'll be able to connect your bank, benny1520.

When connecting, ensure to establish a new online connection. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  2. Select the Banking tab.
  3. Select Connect Account on the landing page if this is your first time connecting. Or select Add account or Link account if you've already created one.
  4. Search for your bank. You can connect with most banks, even small credit unions.
  5. Select Continue. Enter the username and password you use for your bank's website in the window.
  6.  a few minutes to connect.
  7. Select the bank or credit card accounts you want to connect (savings, checking, or credit card). You should see all of your available accounts at your bank or credit card company.
  8. For each account, you connect, select the matching account type from the dropdowns. These are accounts on your chart of accounts in QuickBooks.
  9. Select how far back you want to download transactions. Some banks let you download the last 90 days of transactions. Others can go back as far as 24 months.
  10. Select Connect.

However, if you're still unable to connect, I suggest reaching out to your bank to check if they're having some maintenance. In the meantime, you can manually upload your bank transactions to keep up with the latest ones. Please go through this article for the steps: Manually Upload Transactions In QuickBooks Online.

Please get back to us if you have any other concerns about your bank connection. The Community is always right here to help you all the time.

I am getting an error message from quickbooks when I try to connect to my  Huntington Commercial Bank account.  I have gone through all the required steps in quickbooks, and at the end of the process it states

"we have encountered an unexpected error"

Any help in connecting quickbooks to a Huntington commercial bank account is greatly appreciated

I’m here to help you resolve this, Kevin.

In most cases, bank updates and browser-related issues are sometimes the reasons why you’re unable to connect your bank with QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You’ll want to visit your Huntington Commercial bank website first and check if there’s ongoing maintenance or updates happened. If everything is fine, you can perform some troubleshooting steps so you can connect it seamlessly.

First, open your QBO account in a private or incognito window for testing. Here are the shortcuts keys for quick navigation:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

Once logged in, please redo the connection process. If it works, get back to your regular browser and clear its cache to start fresh. Alternatively, you can use other supported browsers except for Internet Explorer.

You can also import your bank transactions manually. This way, you can start matching and categorizing them in the program.

Don't hold back to drop a comment below if you have any other banking questions or concerns. I’ll be here to help. Take care always!

I am also experiencing this same issue. I have tried connecting via an Incognito window only to receive the same error. Please advise. Our bank connection has been unlinked since the transition weekend (10/9 and 10/10) and the longer this goes, the more clean up that will need to happen once it starts weekend. This needs to be addresssed immediately.

Thank you for sharing the result with us after performing the troubleshooting steps, @revordbuilders.

I'm here to help make sure you can connect your bank account to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before anything else, may I know what bank you're trying to connect to your QBO account? Did you receive any error messages? Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. This way, we can check if there are reported issues connecting the specific bank account.

The troubleshooting steps shared by my peer MadelynC above can help fix issues on connecting bank account in QBO. Since it doesn't work, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Support Team. They can further look into this matter and provide additional troubleshooting steps to get this fixed. They may also look for an investigation if the bank you're trying to connect with QBO had an issue. To reach them, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click the Help button.
  3. In the QuickBooks Assistance chatbox, select Talk to a human and choose I still need a human.
  4. Select Contact Us.

Once you're able to connect your bank account to QBO, the system will automatically download the transactions. Then, you may want to learn how to categorize and match them in QBO. This way, you can put your bank transactions in the correct accounts.

It's nice working with you, @revordbuilders. Should you need any additional assistance while managing your bank transactions, you can leave a comment below. I'll be sure to get back to you.

This issue should not be flagged as 'Solved'. I am still experiencing the same issue. I have been told it's an "engineering" issue and that I would be notified when it's corrected. This has been going on for two weeks now since the TCF to Huntington transition. Please provide clearer details and regular status updates. We need to know this is being worked on and that there is an end in sight.

We also were apart of this bank merger. We were eventually able to get synced, but are now having to resync every single day. This isn't great because in order to sync, Huntington sends my boss a code and we are not always in contact. Would love to know if I should reach out to Huntington about this, or if it's a Quickbooks issue.

This is still not fixed and I have not received any correpsondence regarding status. The entire value of Quickbooks is to keep track of everything automatically. We are losing all of the value that Quickbooks is supposed to provide by not being able to sync our checking account for reconciliation. If this is not resolved soon you will need to reimburse us our subscription fees as we are spending an enormous amount of time doing everything manually.

Today a Huntington rep solved this for me.  Under their commercial product it was required to enroll in PC Banking for $15/mo.  This would be a download (presumably a csv) and not an integration.

Alternatively they enrolled me in Online Banking, the personal and small business product, for free and the integration is a normal feed to Quickbooks.  However it did require a separate login for each entity, whereas the commercial product provided access to multiple entities via a single login.

Both the personal/small business and the commercial access remain active so that commercial banking features are still available for the multiple entities to transact business as usual.
