Unable to import QBO file

Let me guide you in importing your QBO file, @sse77mse-gmail-c,

Let's start by downloading your QBO files and saving them on your computer. Web connect (QBO) files are online banking transactions from your bank’s website.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu, then select Bank Feeds and Import Web Connect Files.
  2. Select the QBO file you saved, then click Open.
  3. When prompted to Select Bank Account, select:
    • Use an existing QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into is already set up in QuickBooks.
    • Create a new QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into isn't in QuickBooks yet. Learn how to create an account.
  4. Click Continue. You'll see a dialogue box telling you that the data has been successfully read into QuickBooks. Select OK.
  5. Go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.

Learn what are the file lists and transaction types you can import into QuickBooks: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you need clarification with the process, you can always tap on us. Have a great day!

Unable to import QBO file

No. You are not addressing my problem. My problem is QB 2020 does not "see" list an existing account when I click Use an existing QuickBooks account. QB sees the account when I got to List of Accounts. Previous data from 2017 is present. Obviously I do not want to create a new account unless there is a super easy way to merge transactions of one account into another.

Hey there, @sse77mse-gmail-c.

I see your response has been responded to in your other thread: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/banking/re-how-do-i-get-qb-2020-pro-to-see-account...

Please follow the steps that were provided by my colleague. It should do the trick in getting your list imported. Please let me know if you have additional questions or concerns. You can reach out to the Community at any time. Take care!

Unable to import QBO file

This is normal and it happens when the account you want to import into is already associated with a bank and routing number, or a credit card account number, for import that is different than the ones in the QBO file you're attempting to import.

To get the account to show up as an option, edit it from your chart of accounts and and then on the Bank Feed Settings tab, pick Deactivate All Online Services.

Then try importing the QBO file again and you should see the account as available to associate with your QBO file.

Unable to import QBO file

I have ALL of my 2020 transactions I need to import into my QB.  I have verified with my bank that my QBO file DOES have all necessary information to import.  However, when I click to Import web connect file, and select the file, QB tells me there are no new transactions to import!  Please help.  I have been dealing with this for weeks now.

Unable to import QBO file

I cannot get my 2020 transactions into QB.  According to my bank, my QBO file has everything it needs to import, but when I try to import, QB tells me there are "no new transactions".  This is not correct. There should be hundreds, if not thousands for last year.  Please help.

Utilize the trial version of this converter app to isolate the issue. If the same error persists, the problem is on your bank.

Please test your answers before posting. I do not have Bank Feeds turned, never did, but the option to import a DOWNLOADED file is not offered.

Unable to import QBO file

Hi Steve,

Joseph_A has actually given you a good start by sharing the steps to import a QBO file. I'd be happy to provide you with more information.

The option he said is actually still available in QuickBooks Desktop 2021. Please refer to the screenshot below.

There is a different way aside from going through the Banking menu. Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities and then Import.
  3. Choose Import Web Connect Files. Then follow steps 2-5 in JosephA's answer above.

Once you have successfully imported your transactions, you can categorize and add or match them to your existing transactions in QuickBooks.

Comment below if you have other questions or clarification about this. I'll be here if you require further assistance. Have a good one!

Unable to import QBO file

Hi! thanks for help. Unfortunately doesn't work. I have the same issue (2020 and 2021 versions installed).
I tried web connect, also I tried to open the qbo file via menu (open file with - choose current 2020 .exe file) - nothing, the last i got is the menu "Import new transactions now" and then again error "QB is unable to verify the Financial Institution bla bla bla"
Any ideas please? (this is a new company and no transactions imported so far, bank is empty/no bank account (tried)).

Hi, kiriss.

I appreciate you for sharing the screenshot of the error message you're getting. It's my priority to help you with importing your QBO file into QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) successfully.

This error message QuickBooks is unable to verify the Financial Institution Information for this download is generally caused by invalid data processed or incorrect bank details when downloading a bank statement file. The downloaded file may be saved in a format that's not compatible with QuickBooks.

To isolate the issue, let's make sure to download your Web Connect file directly from your bank, not from inside QuickBooks.

  1. Sign in to your bank's website
  2. Find and download the Web Connect file (.qbo file).
  3. Open QuickBooks and your company file. Then follow the steps to import the .qbo file.

If the error continues, I recommend reaching out to your bank to check if there are any changes in your account settings when downloading transactions.

You can also follow the detailed guides from this link for additional troubleshooting steps: Fix Web Connect import errors.

For more tips about handling your banking transactions in QBDT, you can open this article: Download Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have any other QuickBooks or banking questions, please let me know by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to help. Keep safe!

As an additional option, utilize the trial version of this app to convert your .QBO file to CSV. If the same error persists, you should contact your bank to clarify this.

I am trying to manually import a webconnect file.  I have tried to do this through the banking window also through file/import/utilities screen and each time I get the message:  "to download and import transactions, sign in with your Intuit account" and when I click ok the login screen is totally blank

I can help you import your bank transactions, ecamp.

Have you tried performing the steps shared by Angelyn_T? If not yet, just ensure to follow the steps in creating a backup of your company file and you're using a supported version of QuickBooks Desktop. Afterward, you can update Internet Explorer to the latest version. Then, you can import the .qbo file

If the same thing happens, I suggest reaching out to us so we can further investigate what's causing the Intuit log-in blank. Here's how to contact us:

  1. Go to Help and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern about being unable to import bank transactions.
  4. Click Continue and select the best way you'll want to contact us.

For us to help you immediately, you can reach out to us within our support hours

Feel free to mention me in your reply how this works so I can help you from there. Take care and stay safe!

Unable to import QBO file

I've run into that on desktop when using a utility to create a .qbo file.  Apparently qb doesn't recognize that as the same file type used previously.  I had to edit the account and disconnect bank feeds. Then the account you are trying to import to will appear in the drop-down as an available account to import to.  Stupid, yep.  But is there anything in the qb world that isn't these days?
