Updating Bank Login Information

Hi, I updated my username and password for my bank.  I cannot find where to update the information in Quickbooks.  When I click on the pencil on my account it's not showing me an option to update my login information.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Updating Bank Login Information

I'm here to help update your bank account sign-in information, tisland.

Before we proceed, may I know which bank account you're trying to update the sign-in information? This way, I'll be able to check if there are related issues with your financial institution.

Here's how to update your bank login credentials:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Select Update
  3. Enter your updated username and password in one of the following ways:
    • If Error 103 appears, select the Reconnect my account link and then enter your credentials.
    • If no error message, select the Edit and then choose Edit sign-in info.
  4. Select Save and connect
  5. Once you see a confirmation message, click on I'm done, Let's go!

However, if you're still unable to update the details, I suggest performing basic troubleshooting steps. This could be a browser-related issue. The stored cache can affect the performance of QuickBooks Online which causes unexpected behavior.

To begin, I suggest logging in to your account via a private window. This doesn't use the existing cache files, which makes it a good place to determine if there's an issue with the browser.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

Once signed in, I suggest performing the steps above. If you're able to update the information, let's clear the cache of your browser. This helps remove its stored cache so QuickBooks will perform efficiently.

If private browsing doesn't work, I recommend using different browsers. They'll provide you the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks. For more details, I encourage checking this article: System Requirements For QuickBooks Online.

For more details about changing your sign-in information, I suggest browsing this article: What To Do If You Get a Bank Error or Can't Download Transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, I've added an article that'll help you review downloaded bank transactions and assign them to the correct accounts. This is to ensure your books are accurate: Categorize and Match Online Bank Transactions.

For other banking concerns, feel free to let us. Doing so helps us to further assist you.

Updating Bank Login Information

Hello there, tisland.

You can see the Edit sign in info option after you click the Pencil icon of the Chase bank. Here is the sample screenshot:

If it's not appearing, it could be that our browser might be having too much cache that made the QuickBooks feature not responding properly. If you haven't tried accessing the QuickBooks account using in a private window, you can follow these steps shared by my colleague above to resolve this unexpected behavior. Otherwise, your bank may require going into the bank website and update some of your details there.

If the same thing happens, I'd recommend contacting our support team to check your account in detail using their tools. They can perform it in a secure environment. Here's how:

  1. Go to Help at the upper-right corner.
  2. Enter a short description of your concern.
  3. Click Talk to a human. Then, I still need a human.
  4. You can then get a callback or send a message to start a conversation with our specialist.

To keep your transactions organize, you can use these articles as your guide:

Please let me know if you have other concerns. Take care and stay safe always.

I have the same problem.  I hear what all you advisors and admins are saying, but it's not there. I've updated my password before, and I've done it exactly where you say it should be. However, it is gone. The "edit sign-in info" box does NOT appear (but the other one for "edit account info" does).  I've cleared my cache and have tried on two separate browsers (Chrome and Firefox). It's not a browser issue.

Hi there, @UserID123.

Since you're still unable to update bank login information after doing some troubleshooting steps this time, I highly recommend reaching out to our Customer Support Team. This way, they can further investigate this matter and provide additional troubleshooting steps to get this resolve. They can also create an investigation ticket if other users are experiencing the same issue.

To reach them, click the ? Help button at the top-right corner and select Contact Us to talk with a live agent.

In case you don’t see your recently downloaded bank transactions in QuickBooks Online, then you can follow the troubleshooting steps provided in this article to fix the issue: What to do if bank transactions won’t download or there's a bank error.

Please know that I'm just a reply away if you need any further assistance concerning QuickBooks. Wishing you and your business continued success.

Thanks for joining this thread, @StacyT1.

It's my pleasure to guide you through the steps on how to update your bank login information using QuickBooks Desktop Mac. Before doing so, we’ll have to remove the previously saved password. Then, reenter the new one to launch your online banking.

Here's how:

  1. On your desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD icon.
  2. Go to Application to select Utilities.
  3. From there, tap on the Keychain Access.
  4. Find your online banking password and choose Delete.
  5. Close and reopen the company file.
  6. Go to Download transaction and pick Download all.
  7. When you’re given the option to enter your password, enter the new one.
  8. QuickBooks will connect to your bank and download transactions.

Next, reset the Keychain Access password to save your current Bank of America password. Here’s how:

  1. Double-click the Mac HD icon on your desktop.
  2. Pick the Application folder and choose Utilities.
  3. Open the Keychain Access option to select Edit.
  4. Pick Change Password for Keychain login.
  5. Type your current Keychain password in the top box.
  6. Enter your new password in the 2nd box and 3rd box.
  7. Click OK to save the changes.

In case you need to disconnect and reconnect the bank to enter the updated password. Begin with backing up your company file first. Also, ensure that transactions sitting on your bank feeds are categorized and added to your register. Then, you can follow these steps on how to disconnect:

  1. Go to the Lists menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Highlight the account and select the pencil icon to edit.
  3. Select Online Settings.
  4. In the Download Transactions drop-down menu, select Not enabled.
  5. Select OK to confirm, then click OK to close the window.

For more details about the process, see this article: Disconnect Bank Feeds for an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

I’m adding some articles to help you in the future. These resources cover all the information on how to set up your bank feeds and solutions to resolve online banking problems.

That should do it, @StacyT1. Please let me know if there's anything you need help with. I'll be glad to work with you whenever you needed me. Have a great day!

Had the same issue with Bank of America. I had to unlink all my BOA accounts and then when I went to relink everything to asked for me to log in again and I was able to provide the new log-in info. Fingers crossed that doesn't screw up a bunch of my history.

yeah, don't do what i just did. I'm now having to redownload my entire banking history and none of it is categorized.

Hi Rebecca83

I hope you did a back up before you started working on this, in which case you could just do I restore to that back up. I guess I’m fortunate in some regards is our business is really small now as we have semi retired and I don’t do too much bookkeeping, so it doesn’t take too long to hand input. As far as categorization.  My previous version of QuickBooks desktop would download the bank information to a separate place, where you could edit each one and then add it to your QuickBooks register. So take a look at that and see if that helps rather than just download from the bank directly into your accounts payable. Good luck

This is still an issue.  I just spent an hour on the phone with support who could not fix the problem.  There is no edit bank login information on the when you click the pencil on the bank account.  It only allows editing the QB account information.  I changed my password with the bank and now I can't change it in QB so that QB can log on correctly.

QB needs some help!!!!

Thanks for joining the Community, tenkenaid. I appreciate your detailed information.

Since you're not able to see the Edit sign in info after using your Pencil (✏️) icon for an account, I'd recommend checking the browser. It's possible this could have something to do with temporary internet files. Browsing applications store these types of records, but sometimes they can cause issues with certain webpages. You can open a private window and check to see if it displays properly.

Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

If you're able to see your Edit sign in info option while browsing privately, it's safe to say this problem's being caused by the browser. It can be fixed by clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies.

In the event it continues occurring while you're browsing in incognito mode, you'll initially want to try switching to another browsing application.

Here's a list of supported browsers:

  • Google Chrome - version 78 or newer
  • Mozilla Firefox - version 76 or newer
  • Microsoft Edge - version 75 or newer
  • Safari - version 12 or newer
  • Opera - version 68 or newer
  • Samsung - version 10 or newer

You can also check a browser's compatibility with QuickBooks by utilizing our browser health checkup tool. QuickBooks supports the current and two previous versions of browsers. If you find that you're using an unsupported version, make sure to update it to its latest release. Steps for doing so can be found on the particular company's website.

In the event you've found no problems that could be causing this with your browser, I'd recommend using a different device and/or internet connection. If it continues happening on other devices and/or internet connections, you'll want to continue getting in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while you're signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Help (?) icon.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a description of your situation in the What can we help you with? field, then hit Let's talk.
  4. Select Start messaging or Get a call.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

I've also included a detailed resource about system requirements for QuickBooks which may come in handy moving forward: System requirements

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any questions. Have an awesome day!

Updating Bank Login Information

The problem still exists on April 7, 2023.

I tried all sorts of things including everything that Quickbooks Online admins suggested as well as the suggestions of other users.

Here's what worked for me (We use Chase bank):

1) I went to Transactions (in Banking) or now for some people I went to "Banking" under "Banking" on the left, black menu.

2) For each account with the bank (I also had credit card transactions being downloaded), I clicked on the big box listing the account and the bank and QB balances.

3) Then I clicked on the pencil icon.

4) My QBO does NOT have the box for changing sign-in info but it does have "Edit Account Info" so I clicked on that.

5) When it brings up the account info, I clicked to put a checkmark by "Disconnect this account on save" (column on right, near the bottom) and then the green "Save and Close" button at the bottom.

6) I did this separately for each account with Chase bank (had 5 credit cards to do this for.)

7) Then, back on the main Banking/Banking screen, I clicked on "Link Account" near the top, far right, and went through the whole set of entries to add my bank, login to the bank, select accounts to share, etc.

When I was all done, everything updated fine!

Regards,
