I am attempting to file my 941 in Quickbooks Desktop version.
I keep getting this error:
Form 941: Employer Identification Number - Form 941 is a draft form and is not to be filed with the IRS. Final form will be available in a later release.
I have run update twice and still does it. What's going on?
Hello, bvstone.
The error your getting is an early draft of an IRS tax form, instructions, or publication, which the IRS is providing for information. Drafts of instructions and publications usually change before their final release.
If you want more in-depth information about this, you can check the instructions for Form 941.
If I can be of any additional help about filing your forms, please add them below. I'll be sure to help.
So how do I file my 941 then? Just try it every day until it works?
I am having the same error and have the same question. When will the updated form be ready to get rid of the draft for error message so we can file timely. Thank you.
Hello there, @bvstone and @MTgf.
I can see the importance of filing your 941 forms in the Quickbooks Desktop version. Also, I appreciate all the things you've tried to generate the form within your company file.
Once QuickBooks release the form, you run the payroll update to make form 941 available. I see that you've tried it already. Before updating the payroll, let's try to update QuickBooks to the latest release first. This way, we can download new updates and critical fixes or patches. Here's how:
Once the update finishes, close and reopen the software. Then, click Yes to install updates when a pop-up appears. Next, try to download the latest payroll tax table update.
To prepare and print Form 941, Schedule B, and Form 940, you can read through this article: Prepare your forms, and print and save them.
Also, you can find information on the latest payroll update as well as earlier release updates: Find recent payroll updates.
I'll be around if you have other concerns about QuickBooks or filing your forms. Take care and stay safe.
Yep, I did all the updates already.
I will just wait and try in a week.
I had all the updates & auto updated turned on. However I redid the payroll update and this time received additional tax forms and the error went away and I could file. Must have been an update to version 22112 as after I did this, my update before date changed from 7/24 to 7/31.
Thank you.
I just recently updated from Desktop 2019 to Desktop Pro Plus 2022. I went to file the 941B and I couldn't. The 10 digit pin EIN number was saved in the 2019 version and it only shows as ***** so I do not know what that number is. I started working here a year ago and the previous manager didn't write the number down so I have no idea what the number is. How do I get the 10 digit number to be able to file the 941B electronically through my updated Quickbooks?
I am frustrated because I have spoken with a Quickbooks person, I have called several numbers with the IRS and I have gone on line and googled so many things about this and tried everything. I am just frustrated and need help. I only upgraded because I received a notice that the 2019 version will no longer support payroll and I am still learning how to use quickbooks. Please help!!!!!
Thanks for letting us know about your concern, @LV Rural Water Dist. I can see you've been through a lot in trying to acquire the 10 digit PIN for your E-file. I'm here to share some information.
I understand that you have contacted the IRS before. However, I still suggest getting in touch with them again. You can ask for a new PIN from them as it is considered missing or lost.
You can contact the IRS E-file services at 866.255.0654. To ensure that the PIN will not be lost again, please have a copy of it moving forward.
In addition, make sure you have the most recent payroll update to avoid any disruptions while processing your E-file/E-pay in QuickBooks.
Once you’re all set, you can file your forms through QuickBooks. Refer to the detailed steps outlined in this article: E-file and e-pay federal forms and taxes in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Enhanced.
