Hi team!
Simple question: What is the maximum time it normally takes Quickbooks to process W-2's once an employer provides all income and tax information? We employees have yet to receive our W-2's [yes, it's March 18th so you can imagine the frustration] and he's currently blaming it on Quickbooks and the processing time. I inquired Monday, March 10th, and our employer responded, claiming he's waiting on Quickbooks to process. Should we employees be receiving our W-2 any day now? Because this is becoming incredibly stressful [his little blame game, that is - because I know where the issue honestly lies]. But I'd just appreciate an estimate of the time it could potentially take Quickbooks to process and send out our W-2's.
Many thanks in advance!
@apcpatriot Considering there are still reports of people being unable to correct 1099-NECs, and QB's past behavior regarding tax forms, somewhere between 1 and 4 months.
That being said, although I'm unfamiliar with QBO specifically, I'd be surprised if the owner wasn't able to print out physical copies. I certainly can in Desktop; takes maybe a minute.
QuickBooks efficiently processes W-2 submissions when there are no corrections or errors, @apcpatriot. As an employee myself, I'd also like to receive my important forms on time. Let me share more insights regarding the processing time below.
First, employers are required to submit W-2 forms electronically until January 31 each year, and QuickBooks handles these submissions promptly. Ideally, employees should receive their W-2s by early February, provided there are no corrections or errors. If delays extend into March, even if the employer has accurately provided all necessary income and tax information, I encourage you to have your employer check for submission confirmation and contact our live support team to further check.
Additionally, please note that there could be delays in the delivery of paperless W-2s this year due to significant changes in the process. Factors such as increased volume and logistical challenges may impact the timely distribution of these forms to employees.
You can refer to this resource to find out more about W-2 filing and when employees can access and print their forms if necessary: Understand the timing for your W-2s
I'll also include this resource to guide your employer on how to manually send paper copies to you or your colleagues: Print and mail W-2s to employees.

I was able to find a page that has info on how you SHOULD be able to print copies of w-2's in QBO. Who knows if it actually works, but you can try.
