How do I change the pay period dates on payroll after the checks have been printed?

It's a pleasure to see you here in the Community. I can share some information about changing pay period dates of printed paychecks on QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Currently, QBO doesn't have the option to change or edit a pay period of a paycheck once created. However, you can delete and recreate the paycheck instead as a workaround. To do this, you can pull up the Paycheck List report to see all the paychecks that you've created. Here's how:

1. Go to the Reports menu at the left pane, then type Paycheck List on the search bar.
2. Click the Funnel icon drop-down to choose a date.
3. Put a check mark on the paychecks you need to delete, then select Delete.

Once done, you can now recreate the paychecks with the correct pay periods. Here's how:

1. Go to Workers menu at the left pane, then select the Employees tab.
2. Click Run payroll on the upper right, then pick an employee.
3. Enter the necessary information.
4. Select Preview payroll, then Submit payroll.
5. Print the paychecks by clicking Print pay stubs, then Finish payroll.

Are you trying to change the pay period dates of your checks? If so, there isn't an option to change it. Instead, you can delete and recreate them. You can follow the steps provided by my colleague above.

It doesn't give an option to edit or delete, only print.

Will deleting the check and recreating it affect payroll tax payments/filings? 

Will deleting the old paycheck and recreating it affect payroll tax payments/filings?

Please help me how can I edit check date on employees' final payroll checks that I have printed today (09-23-2020). When I submitted the final paychecks, QBO printed 10-05-2020 as default payroll date for next payroll run.

The answer of "quickbooks doesn't allow what you need" isn't exactly helpful.  Especially when the error in date cross a year, because quickbooks doesn't allow paychecks to be created for the prior year.  Its a bug, not a feature.

QuickBooks Online Payroll has an option to set up a prior payroll if you paid your employees in this calendar year. This is to ensure that data is accurate especially when filing the W-2s at the end of the year.

We won't be able to set it up if you already made a paycheck before you decided to add the past pay information. If you no longer have this option, you'll want to reach out to our Customer Support Team so they can enter it on your behalf. Just make sure that you have a copy of the accurate prior payroll data.

The new "Help" menu interface: 

1. Click the (?) Help icon and choose the Talk to a human option (then type it again when prompted).
2. When asked by the bot, enter "Prior Payroll".
3. Select I still need a human, then proceed with Contact us.
4. Tap Let’s talk then choose either Get a call or Start messaging. 

For the old "Help" menu:

1. Click the Help icon, then the Contact Us button.
2. Enter "Prior Payroll" in the What can we help you with box.
3. Proceed with the Let's talk button.
4. Select either Start messaging or Get a call button.

I think this is only for brand new employees (ie, setup).  Not the situation I'm dealing with, where the quickbook payroll service worked for most of the year then developed serious glitches in December that resulted in two set of paychecks not being saved by quickbooks.  Need to add paychecks to a previous year (2020) and it doesn't work, just gives a misleading error message about late payroll taxes.

I found a couple of posts that claim this is a feature, not a bug.  As it Quickbooks wants it to be impossible to add any paychecks that were already paid in 2020, becuase it is now 2021 and also doesn't allow editing of the 941 or W2 forms, which means I have to calculate them by hand.

I am trying to have the pay period start date not appear, how do I remove the start date?

We can only edit the payroll data on a paycheck. We're unable to remove the pay period start date. However, I can share a workaround to help you remove it. 

You can save a paycheck and manually remove the pay period start date using an editing program.

To save a paycheck, simply open it then click the Print button. On the overview screen, click the Download icon. 

Alternatively, you can look for a third-party app that lets you customize a paycheck and remove the pay period date. Go to the Apps menu, then search for one. 

Our developers are working on introducing new features in QuickBooks. They might add a feature where you can customize your paychecks and hide some of its data.
