Hi there, don38,

I'm here to help ensure you're able to e-file your taxes and forms in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Payroll.

Upgrading to QBDT 2020 may have refreshed the filing status in the system. Since you've already enrolled in the IRS e-file program and have been provided with a 10 digit PIN, let's change the filing method.

The following steps will guide you through:

  1. Go to the Employees menu, then Payroll Center.
  2. Open QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Setup, and go to the File Forms tab.
  3. Under Other Activities, select Change Filing Method.
  4. In the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Setup, click Continue.
  5. Select Federal Form 940 from the list of forms, and then select Edit.
  6. In the Filing Method options, select E-file, then Finish.
  7. Check if the filing method of your Federal Form 940, 941 and 944 is already E-File, then click Continue.

If the same issue persists, the next step you need to take is to check if the payroll service is showing as  Active. You can see the status by opening the Payroll Account Management portal. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Employees menu.
  2. Select My Payroll Service, then Account/Billing Information.
  3. Sign in using your Intuit Account login. See also Resolve issues with My Account login if you're unable to log in to the portal.

Feel free to read through this handy article: Resolve a problem verifying your payroll subscription for more details about the steps above.

I enrolled in e-file and have my 10 digit PIN but when I upgraded from desktop 2017 to desktop 2020 with enhanced payroll I can't e-file?

Have done all of these steps several times with no luck -

Looks like the problem is that my current Quick Books payroll does not see my old e-File setup from the 2017 Quick Books.

I'm looking for a way to update current Quick Books 2020 with old e-File information from Quick Books 2017.

If not then maybe I have to go through the whole e-File setup again and get a new IRS PIN??
