QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

I recently received the email from Intuit discussing the new consolidated billing that will be happening. There is another paragraph in the email about change to direct deposit saying the billing will be now based on the number of contractors who have the direct deposit feature turned on.

What does this mean? Is the pricing changing for making direct deposits to contractors? Previously I believe the rate was $4/payment. Does this mean now payments will be different and based on anyone who has the direct deposit feature turned on rather than based on each payment? Can you please provide more information on this, or direct me to where I can find actual information on the pricing for contractor direct deposit? It is impossible to find this information easily online.

Thank you for your reply. I followed the link you put in your response for the pricing but it only takes me to the general Payroll page. Can you please direct me to the exact location where all the pricing is listed (e.g. where I can see this $2/contractor/mo fee listed)?

Thanks.

Excuse my frustration, but is there really no where online you can direct me to that shows the pricing and rates for this service? Why is this such a difficult concept?

QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

I have the information you need, @rg888.

I know it’s important to keep updated with the service rates associated with your account. The contractor's direct deposit charge per month depends on the payroll subscription you have.

At the moment, contractor payments via direct deposit are $4/month for Core, $8/month for Premium, and $10/month for Elite. You can view this information within your QuickBooks Online account under the Payroll menu. I’ll show you how:

  1. Select the Payroll menu from your left navigation pane.
  2. Go to the Contractors tab.
  3. Press the Check it out button at the top.

You can also visit our Plan and Pricing website to view more details. Then select the Important offers, pricing details, & disclaimers link.

I’ve also added an article that contains complete instructions on how to pay your contractors using direct deposit in QuickBooks or Intuit Payroll.

Just click the Reply button below if you have some follow-up questions concerning pricing and rates in QuickBooks. I'd be glad to help you some more. Take care!

Let me ask a question here to help me clarify my thinking:

Do I pay a monthly fee for contractors I have in the system but that I did not pay that month?

Say that I have a contractor I only pay 2 times during the year. Will I have to pay a monthly fee for 12 months to be able to pay that contractor via direct deposit only two times a year?

QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

I can bring clarifications to your concern about direct deposit fees, Klipywitz.

The monthly fee when paying contractors with direct deposit in QuickBooks Online will only charge you once you use the feature. Since you're paying contractors two times a year, you'll only be charged twice. So if you don't process direct deposit payment to a contractor then you'll not be charged for that month.

Learn more about the whole process of paying contractors with direct deposit through this article: Pay a contractor with direct deposit.

If you don't want to use direct deposit, you can use paper checks instead. Check out this article to learn more: how to pay your contractors with paper checks.

You're always welcome to visit us again if you need help while working with QuickBooks. It will be my pleasure. Stay safe and have a great day ahead!

QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

I just started using the direct deposit for contractors and was charged last month for contractors that I had not paid. I waited to contact customer service to see who I was charged the $4.00 fee for this billing cycle. Again I was charged for all the contractors that I had setup, not just the ones I had paid in the month.  When I contacted customer service I was told I would be charged the $4 for any contractors that I had active for the month. My understanding when I started using this, I would be charged for the contractor when I used the direct deposit for them. Some of the contractors I only pay a few times a year.  So what is up with this?

Thank you for following up on this, donna26.

I'd like to clarify that you'll be charged $4 per month per active contractor that is set up for direct deposit whether you pay them or not. Only those contractors with no direct deposit setup will not be included in the charge.

If you have other questions in mind, feel free to go back to this thread.

QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

This information is confusing and conflicting.  From what it shows in the payment terms:
"Direct deposit for contractors is $4/month for Core, $8/month for Premium, and $10/month for Elite, per contractor payment. Each employee is $4/month for Core, $8/month for Premium, and $10/month for Elite with no additional fees for with direct deposit."

It seems that we will be charged $4 per contractor PAYMENT.  It would be helpful to clarify this information for your customers. I have reached out to Chat and after spending 35 mins with someone who had no clue, I am still getting conflicting information.

I've got the information you need about direct deposit for contractor rates in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @BoBella.

You need an active payroll subscription with Intuit to pay contractors by direct deposit. Then, you'll be charged (only when you use it) per contractor per month depending on the payroll subscription you have.

You'll be charged $4 per contractor payment via direct deposit per month when you're subscribed to the Payroll Core plan. However, you'll be paying a different rate per contractor per month when you're using the Premium ($8) and Elite ($10) versions. This information is current according to the payment terms shown through our Plan and Pricing website's Important offers, pricing details, & disclaimers link.

Each time you pay contractors via direct deposit, you can refer to this article: Pay a contractor with direct deposit.

Also, I'm adding this article to further guide you in managing your vendors and business expenses using QBO: Expenses and vendors in QuickBooks Online.

Please don't hesitate to leave a comment below if you have other concerns about contractors' direct deposit rates and payments in QBO. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @BoBella.

QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

This is ridiculous. Why are the fees so hidden? I want to transfer from Bill.com because I don't like the new interface, but am afraid to turn on direct deposit for contractors because I have 15 or so setup but only use 2-3 in any given month. Do I need to remove and add contractors each month depending on which ones I'm using to not be charged?

QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

Hi there, @sfasdfasdfasdf.

Thanks for following up with us and sharing your concerns.

You'll be charged a monthly fee for contractors with direct deposits turned on, even if you don't pay them during the month. Please know that you won't have to delete your contractors, but you have to turn direct deposit off for the ones you don't want to be charged for.

If you want to turn off the direct deposit for a specific pay, you can do so:

  1. Select Payroll, then Contractors.
  2. Next to the contractor's name, select the dropdown to toggle the direct deposit off or on.

If you'd also like to remove or change bank info:

  1. Select Bank account to edit.
  2. In the Account Number or Routing Number fields, enter the new account number, or enter all zeros to remove.
  3. Select Save.

For additional details, check out Set up and manage direct deposits for contractors.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Take care!

Does it save the bank account info or does that need to be re-entered each time you turn on direct deposit?

QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @ @sfasdfasdfasdf. Allow me to chime in and share some insights about direct deposit with QuickBooks.

Yes, it will save the bank account details when you turn on-off the direct deposit of your contractors. This way, you can easily enable it in case you need to turn on the direct deposit again.

However, if it's already removed, you'll have to re-enter the bank account details again. Follow the steps below to add the account info yourself.

  1. Select Payroll, then Contractors.
  2. For a new contractor, select Add a contractor or select the existing contractor to add or edit bank info.
  3. Select Bank account.
  4. As prompted, enter the following:
    • Account Number
    • Account Type
    • Routing Number
    • Account holder Phone Number
    • Account holder Full Name

     5. Select Save.

You may also check these links for reference:

If you don't want to use direct deposit, you can use paper checks instead. Also, I'm adding this article to further guide you in managing your vendors and business expenses using QBO: Check out these articles to learn more: How to pay your contractors with paper checks.

The Community always has your back, so please let me know if you have any other questions. I'll be more than happy to help. Keep safe, @sfasdfasdfasdf.

QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

Just chiming in here to say that this thread is BONKERS. Why is the pricing model so sketchy and unclear? Seriously, we're supposed to ask twenty questions on a forum to get a clear picture of the fees we're being charged? It's clear QB is trying to exploit those who don't know to toggle on/off contractors as they're paid each month.

I'd love to hear customer support explain why the toggle even exists- surely there QB is smart enough to know whether or not you're paying a contractor in a given month.

Hi beau rosario!

Let me share some details about QuickBooks Online fees.

The pricing for direct deposit is shown on the same page you turn on the feature. In addition, you can always review your active subscriptions from the billing page. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and settings.
  2. Click the Billing & Subscription tab. From there, you’ll see all your active subscriptions.
  3. Select the View payment history to see the billing history for the last 6 months’ bills.

Also, most of the info in the Important offers, pricing details, & disclaimers section has been posted already on the main website as well as on your QuickBooks Online account. The purpose of this section is to recap those important details. You may also review the Terms & Conditions if you need more detailed info about it.

Leave a comment again here if you need more clarifications. Thanks!

Come on Quickbooks if you made this work as bill.com does, we wouldn't be using bill.com. This is stupid that you have to toggle contractors off and on. I feel like you are just trying to get over on us and nickel and dime us when we aren't paying attention. I can't believe you just raised prices and are acting this way. Makes me not trust you in the future. Gonna keep my eye out for another accounting service for my future businesses.

Hello,

Please I need clarification, is it 4.00 per payment? for example if I pay 5 contractors by direct deposit in one month, is the fee 4.00 or 20.00? Thank you

QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

It's good to see you in the thread, @Rada.

Let me share some details about the updated contractor payment rates in QuickBooks.

For each contractor, the rates for direct deposit payments are $5/month for Core, $8/month for Premium, and $10/month for Elite. This means that if you use Core to pay five contractors via direct deposit in a month, you'll be charged $25.

For more information about our plans and pricing, visit this website: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/pricing/. Then, click important pricing details and product information.

In addition, see this article: Pay a contractor with direct deposit for additional information on handling direct deposit payments for contractors.

Please contact me again if there is anything else I can do to help you pay your contractors. I'd be glad to assist. Enjoy your day.

QBO Direct Deposit to Contractors - Pricing Info

@MirriamM I'm assuming you work for Intuit, so I'll raise this concern again with you... Regardless of what the rates are (and it seems they've gone up recently) it seems predatory that the toggle switch even exists to "activate" a contractor's direct deposit status. Why can't quickbooks just detect if you haven't paid certain contractors in a given month and then simply not charge you for them that month? (I know the answer- so Intuit can charge unwitting users who forget [or don't know] to toggle off every "unused" contractor each month.)

I'd love a better explanation, and I haven't heard one yet. It's really ridiculous the way QB bills like this. It's the reason I've moved all my payments to Melio (which is free). If you changed this, I'd probably come back.
