Background: We are a non-profit, we are paid weekly. Each employee is paid by various funding sources (contracts)
I'm trying to run a report that show total gross wages paid to each employee and an add'l field showing the amount charged to a particular contract. After 2.5 hours with support I'm told it's not possible, which is nuts.
I'd be able to work with a report that shows total gross wage by employee paid for each pay period for a specific period of time. How can this not be possible?
Let me share some information about generating a report showing the total gross wages paid to each employee and the amount charged to a particular contract, @WNYCOSH-ED.
You can run the Payroll Summary by Employee to show the data you want. To do this, here's how:
The amount charged to a particular contract will be shown in the report depends on how you entered it. If you record this as an item, then it will appear on the statement. Otherwise, you can export the report and manually add the contract to it. For more insights about the process, feel free to open this resource: Manage reports in QuickBooks.
Additionally, let me attach this link to help you memorize a report. It will help save it with its current customization settings.

Thank you for your response. This report is exactly what I want. I don't see that report available. We have QBO Advanced. I'm not sure if it's available on all levels. I went to reports typed in the name and there were no payroll reports except for the custom reports I created.
I appreciate you for getting back to this thread, @WNYCOSH-ED. I can share with you some information to ensure that you can generate payroll reports.
To run a Payroll Summary by Employee statement, you must have a payroll subscription on your QuickBooks Online Advanced account. Then, if you have the service but still the report is unavailable, ensure that you have user access. If none, ask permission from the primary and company admins to give you the rights.
If you pass the requirements above but still get the same issue, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this. There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, which causes some errors or unusual responses. Let's start accessing your account using a different or a private browser. You can use either of these shortcut keys:
Once you have successfully generated the report, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This is done to speed up the process next time you do a transaction in QuickBooks Online. Also, an alternative way is to use other compatible browsers.
In addition, I've attached this resource to help you learn specific ways to personalize your statements in QuickBooks: Common custom reports.

So without a payroll subscription the report’s not available?
So that means without a payroll subscription I don’t have access to that report?
Thanks for coming back, @WNYCOSH-ED.
Yes, you're correct. You'll have access to this payroll report when you have a payroll subscription while using the service.
If you want to subscribe to our payroll service to associate it with your QuickBooks Online Advanced, you can go to the Payroll menu and then select the Employees tab. From there, hit the Get started button. You can choose one from the payroll service plans that will suit your need.

If I sign up for your payroll. Can I run the reports retroactively, or just going forward?
Frankly the right payroll solution we have is the one we've had for 20+ years, but apparently this is just one more of the many differences between the installed version of Quickbooks and QBO.
Yes, you can, @WNYCOSH-ED.
In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can run payroll reports retroactively or going forward by filtering the report period date. Let me guide you how:
