Bypass tax penalties may apply

Hi preearth,

I'm here to share some information about entering taxes in QuickBooks.

When you've entered a past-dated check, you'll be prompted with the bypass page.  The system won't allow you to enter a past-dated checks for several reasons.

If the pay is for the prior period, you can enter a memo on the description indicated its pay period.

I've added this reference for more information: Tax Penalty Protection.

Let me know if there's anything that I can help with. Keep safe!

So are you recommending entering the pay in the incorrect year and just make a note?

Hi there, preearth.

Allow me to step in and help by sharing information to resolve this.

You can enter the check as a prior payroll, but if you don't have that option anymore, the best bet is to contact QBO Payroll Support so they can enter it for you. They have a different tool for entering historical payroll in the past tax periods.

  1. Go to the ?Help, in the text box input I need to speak to a human.
  2. Enter your concern such as "Record previous paycheck with the correct date and ensure the correct figure in the taxes owed."
  3. Click Speak to a human.
  4. Select Contact us.
  5. Choose either to Send a message or get a Callback.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  7. Confirm the request.

If there's anything that I can help you with payroll, please don't hesitate to reach back out. Take care!
